The appellation At the confluence of two valleys, the appellation of Pernand-Vergelesses, perched between 290 and 360 meters, is in the northern portion of the Côte de Beaune. The AOC Pernand-Vergelesses covers 123 hectares: 90 hectares of red of which 44 are Premier Cru and 53 of white of which 17 are Premier Cru. “Sous Frétille” has been classified as a Premier Cru since 2001 (but only for white wines.) The word “Frétille” is a derivation of “forestelle”, or forest in old French. Hence, “Sous Frétille” indiquates the geographic location of the parcel, just under the forest.
