Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.1 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 149 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mario17 on 7/8/2023: Un vin puissant, riche et un peu alcooleux, très bien par contre mais j’ai trouvé supérieur un peu aux Marcassins.

Powerful, rich, a tad too warm for my Cote de Beaune palate but still very good and liked it better then the 2 Marcassin. (644 views)
Tasted by haqofeta on 5/13/2023: I can't disagree with any of the other notes. Subtlety is in short supply. And a lot of the individual components aren't necessarily things I gravitate to. But I would say the same about Indian or Thai food, and they are two of my favorites. Just a pleasure to drink with the right meal. (336 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 11/24/2021 & rated 93 points: same as last (1677 views)
Tasted by jgh123 on 8/23/2020 & rated 92 points: Very big; butterscotch and honey. A lovely wine that's at it's peak or maybe just moving past. Lush and lingering. My only complaint is the 14.4% alcohol. (1304 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 12/27/2019 & rated 93 points: Not a ballerina in any way and does not pretend to be one. On the cusp of being heavy but manages to stay in the right side. Very long, i like ! (2213 views)
Tasted by OliverC on 12/27/2019 & rated 92 points: On the nose a little austere, but very smooth on the palate (after a couple of hours of air in the fridge). A bone dry wine with mellow almost buttery sweetness of honeysuckle, vanilla. Lovely. (1302 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 9/6/2019 & rated 92 points: big cali chard...this has power and concentration without overpowering...apple pear and a hint of apricots....sandalwood and honeysuckle in the mouth....just a great white wine ! (1992 views)
Tasted by sbwino on 9/1/2019 & rated 93 points: Mouthful of Butterscotch & Ripe Apricot with decent acidity and great mineral profile typical of Monte Bello wines. The wine has aged gracefully since my first taste a decade ago. Time flies! My last bottle of the case. Bittersweet! (1145 views)
Tasted by ajfret01 on 1/19/2019: Delicious. Well aged with years to go. (1165 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 11/23/2018 & rated 94 points: A glowing, almost radioactive yellow-green color; I’ve never seen the like. Kumquats and lemon on the nose.

Sweet lemon, strong, well-integrated minerality, kumquat, and an almost metallic finish. Viscous texture. Absolutely delicious, and aged to perfection with no sign of degradation. (1081 views)
Tasted by Papies on 9/27/2018: 8(!) years since we tried it last and back then we rated 92. On this occasion it felt very oxidative, like a Rhone white gone bad and did not feel at all in a nice place. The wine has been lovingly cellared for all these years so not an issue of storage. We have one more bottle and not feeling confident about it... NR here.. (1146 views)
Tasted by quanmeister on 3/24/2018 & rated 93 points: Bought this wine in 2007 and cellared since then . Best Chardonnay I’ve ever had. I’m usually not a fan of Chardonnay but this wine was beautiful . So much fruit and acidity. Not oaky. So tasty
and bright. Wish I had more than one bottle. Held for 11 years. It was so worth it. (1247 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 1/20/2018 & rated 95 points: SO'd for a couple of hrs, deep gold, lemon, vanilla & white flowers; delicious & ready to drink (1396 views)
Tasted by Nordy on 11/17/2017 & rated 93 points: Wine for TJ Martell wine dinner on 11/16/17 (1322 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 9/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Opened at the CDP by Allred. One of the best Chardonnays I have had. This was really singing. Very clean with only a touch of oak showing. Solid fruit notes. 92 points. (1779 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 8/26/2017 & rated 94 points: Cellar diminishment party - brief note. Our last bottle and this was simply outstanding. Apple, touch of smoke, nuttiness, florals. Long finish. Absolutely glorious tonight. 94-95 pts. (1324 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 8/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Sunday Group: 2006 Napa Cabernets (Our house): Excellent but not at the level of that last bottle, which was a stunner. This was very good though, with notes of apple and citrus along with a touch of vanilla. Full-bodied and rich, with flavors of orchard fruit, lemon oil and oak. Most of the group's guesses centered on California. (3211 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 2/19/2016 & rated 96 points: Opened by Allred at Anvil. In a word, stunning. For a more eloquent tasting note, see Allred's note as his is certainly more specific. 96+ (3478 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 2/19/2016 & rated 96 points: In a word- stunning. This was the perfect moment for this particular bottle of wine. Aromas of lemon and citrus fruits, wet stone, mineral, and crab apple blossom with pear and banana undertones. Full-bodied but graceful and elegant. Flavors of pear and apple fruit give way to marshmallow and toasted vanilla fluff with hints of lemon curd and limestone on the back end. The finish lasts for well over a minute. (3465 views)
Tasted by wcchang on 1/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Somehow this bottle tastes quite different than the bottle I had 5 years ago. Not a well balanced bottle. Lots of lemon zest. It basically knocks other flavors, like green apple and rocks, out of balance. Medium acidity. (3241 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 3/28/2015 & rated 93 points: During a wine diner. Golden yellow. Nose of flowers, honey, some buttery scents, vanilla and oak. Medium-full bodied, unctuous on the palate but not as heavy as CA Chard sometimes is. Good balance and enough freshness to support the body. Monte Bello quality, what can you say. (4218 views)
Tasted by WineDoctors on 2/26/2015 & rated 90 points: golden, clear to rim, no flaws, medium acid, medium bodied, long finish. golden apple, oxidized apple, honey notes, honeysuckle. drink now (2444 views)
Tasted by djdaqm on 12/10/2014 & rated 92 points: Nice mellow nose and flavors, which could use a little spark. Smells of meyer lemon and caramel, but not oakey or buttery. Creamy on the palate with a long finish, with flavors that changed across the length of the palate. Really smooth and well integrated. Maybe I didn't have it cold enough, but I think it could have used a little brightness. A touch more acidity would have been nice. (2020 views)
Tasted by kmerriman on 9/17/2014 & rated 93 points: A great example of CA chard.. Paired well with the grilled notes of our simply prepared grilled swordfish. I've owned this since release and it was showing well. Near or at it's peak I suspect. (2468 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 9/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Not as great as the previous bottles I've had recently... Still an outstanding wine though! (2226 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Santa Cruz Mountains

Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia

Once referred to by wine writers as the Chaine d'Or -- or "golden chain" -- the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA sits above Silicon Valley, running along the craggy range next to the Pacific on some of the prettiest parts of Northern California. The area supports more than 75 wineries, despite being limited by geography and high land prices.

In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized, one of the first American viticultural areas to be defined by geophysical and climatic factors. The appellation encompasses the Santa Cruz Mountain range, from Half Moon Bay in the north, to Mount Madonna in the south. The east and west boundaries are defined by elevation, extending down to 800 feet in the east and 400 feet in the west.
