Tasted by ogres3 on 3/3/2024 & rated 94 points: These are just pure deliciousness. Not sure one can ask more from a Napa cab (so why not a 99?). Best of 8 wines at a tasting. (343 views)
Tasted by hanasowner on 2/16/2024 & rated 94 points: Slow O for 30-40 minutes...dark purple...dark fruit on the nose and palate...still some tannins that paired well with NY Strip...finish is fading a bit...suggest drinking up in the next 2-3 years. (370 views)
Tasted by DCSteve on 12/24/2023 & rated 96 points: Drinking really well. Pop ‘n Pour for Xmas dinner. Served with (and really complimented) horseradish encrusted tenderloin. Nice long finish. Still plenty of life left - years. (343 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 4/23/2023 & rated 97 points: Packed with dark fruit and cherry juice, tart, in a really nice place with soft tannins and bright fruit (980 views)
Tasted by peterk on 1/15/2023: This is so... well, Howell Mountain. Pronounced tannin that slides into the dark, delicious fruit and then just carries on and an (1004 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 11/23/2022 & rated 94 points: Still excellent and with several good years ahead of it. This was really tasty tonight and better than the 2012 O’Shaughnessy Howell Mtn. consumed before it. (1002 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 6/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Why stop? I've taken down 14, 15, 16 & 13 in that order over the last few days. At PNP this wine had some bite with regards to Tannins. This transformed into a wine that was in a nice window for consumption. At ten years I'm not sure I would have guessed the age or vintage of this wine. Pretty darn consistent year over year and the estate wine doesn't seem to show any real development. I've had some roll over and become jammy and sweet. This is not the case with 12. This bottle lasted about two hours around a meat and cheese board.

Drink or hold.

Tasted by Cabernet4me2 on 5/30/2022 & rated 93 points: This was a solid showing from one of my howell mtn favorites!! Not nearly the complexity of the True, but that being said, it still is a solid wine at the price point.

This had that Black and Red howell profile with some decent minerality, and a shorter than expected finish, but still mighty pleasing!!

These bottles have years and years left, not a glimpse of any age showing, still as fresh as I remember them, so the end Drink date of 2025, is way off IMHO..... Drink or Hold (1616 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 4/3/2022: Big ripe delicious TRB cab in excellent balance. Really tasty and outstanding over 2 nights

Tasted by Bluethunder on 12/23/2021 & rated 93 points: Full bodied, Drinking very well. Dark fruit, cassis with tannins well integrated. (1353 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 12/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Big a d rich with blue-black fruit and some underlying minerality. However, not much complexity after a 60 minute decant, and little evolution over the next two hours. My own preference is for a cabernet that is less robust and has more going on. (1347 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 11/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Several bottles into Thanksgiving dinner with family when I decided to pull this bottle knowing it would deliver on fruit forward Napa Cabernet. Plush/opulent purple mountain cab. 92. Drink or hold (2550 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 11/25/2021 & rated 94 points: This was really terrific. Glad I gave it time in the cellar, as it’s doing great, yet still has plenty of peak drinking time left. (1227 views)
Tasted by Encinitas_Joe on 10/7/2021 & rated 95 points: Really drinking we’ll right now. Decanted for an hour and then consumed over the next 3 hours . Extremely well balanced now with beautiful fruit and just enough oak. These bottles are nowhere near the end of their peak drinking window but are really good right now. (1194 views)
Tasted by Wino from Michigan on 8/27/2021 & rated 92 points: Drinking wonderful - bright black fruit well balanced bed up to grilled ribeyes - loved it (1065 views)
Tasted by Jdwinedrinker on 7/2/2021: Drinking nicely (1234 views)
Tasted by Wine_in_HD on 4/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Tannins still strong. Think it will be better later. (1372 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 12/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Consumed over three days. Tannins still big on this wine. Fruit is still primary after 8 years. I'm wondering how these TRB Outpost bottlings will age or if this style of winemaking that is just not my jam right now. I definitely prefer TV & TVI refined style at this stage/age. Wine was best on night one which included some RC Ranch denver cuts. (2784 views)
Tasted by 2loyal on 12/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Nice color and bouquet, but I think I waited a little too long (for my preference) with this last bottle, as it's clearly fading. Not bad, at all, but unless you prefer well-aged wines, I'd drink this now, as it has definitely peaked. (1418 views)
Tasted by VinoDiver on 11/5/2020: Thin and astringent. Consumed over 3 nights with no change. Hoping it is an off bottle. (1399 views)
Tasted by texaswinelover on 10/17/2020: Big rich restrained. Weird combination of descriptors but honestly applicable. Tasty ripe dark fruit, currants, touch resolved vanilla oak, acid plentiful. (1424 views)
Tasted by hanasowner on 9/17/2020 & rated 95 points: Decanted for 30 minutes...wonderful nose of sweet dark fruit...finish is so silky smooth...medium to long finish. (1474 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 4/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Sixteen months ago I opened a bottle of the 2012 Outpost Cabernet and even after a 3 hour decant the tannins obliterated the finish. Tonight’s bottle was better behaved but would still benefit from a few more years in the cellar. Drank over several hours following a 90 minute decant. Powerful blue-black fruit, oregano, charred wood, a strong tannic backbone and long finish.Try again in 2023. (1660 views)
Tasted by beau11 on 4/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Quick note. Nose surpring amount of funk, earth. Taste racy mtn fruit, on the red spectrum and tight at first. Sweetens and fills out as it opens. Good amount of sediment. Very nice now after 30-60 mins. Getting close to peaking and will drink great for 10 years (1728 views)
Tasted by konadog on 12/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour. Huge notes of red fruit and some menthol/eucalyptus on the nose. Drinks a little tight at first. It began to open up after a couple of hours, revealing more expansive flavors and a softer texture, tannins were more integrated
Much better on night two. Long decant is advised (1865 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
