Tasted by OhioNerd on 5/12/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking well. Not going to improve. Tannins are fully integrated. Likely a slow slide down from here. (755 views)

Tasted by Alaskawino on 4/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Dark smoky brown purple Dark smoky fruit with spice Palate is smoky dark plum and rasin with spice and green notes Good acid and dusty tannins for a very long finish Drink now (1669 views)
(2588 views)
Tasted by Heynetty on 3/4/2021 & rated 87 points: A: pale garnet
N: Medium (+) nose of dried cherry, prune, dried dusty rose petals, tar, leather, caramel, resin
P: Dry, high acidity, high alcohol, high chalky tannin, full body, medium intensity and medium (+) finish
C: THis is well over the hill. I have had 30 year old Barolos that are far more impressive than this. There is too much tertiary here. Its out of balance. The length is fine but the intensity leaves a lot to be desired.
Good typicity though. Its a good quality wine.

Its fully developed and sot suitable for ageing. (2155 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: This was sort of an ah-Ha Barolo for me a few years ago and triggered a trip to Piedmont. Since then I have become quite spoiled with better wines, but this was still a lovely classic Barolo. Deep dark cherry fruit, elegant florals, and plenty of classic Nebbiolo notes of tar and leather. All in balance. Really enjoyed over two days and especially like the 500 ML size since Paul is doing dry January!! (3699 views)
Tasted by Wine609 on 9/19/2020 & rated 91 points: Beautiful garnet Barolo color. Leather add floral nose. Opens up the longer it sat. Enjoyed with Filet and cheeses. Excellent bottle. (2231 views)
Tasted by gjv115 on 8/17/2020 & rated 92 points: Pnp and beautiful right away. Soft and end elegant earth tones. Cherry and cigar box. Nice acidity. Some soft tannins remain.. Can taste the barrel on the finish. Lovely stuff. (1973 views)
Tasted by biggie on 7/6/2020 & rated 88 points: Root Day - Decanted off a small amount of sediment - tasting immediately after decanting - will update in a couple of hours as a previous commentator suggested a two hour decant... medium garnet (slightly browning core) out to an garnet edge with a faint tinge of brown. Nose of tar (this is classic), dried roses, old leather and spice but also with a bit of an alcohol burn. Drinking out of a Burgundy glass - I prefer it for older Italian wines. Pretty smooth on the palate entry with red fruit, dried roses, asphalt (in a good way) and oregano. There’s still a good punch of acidity and some resolved, but still firm, tannins as well. Fairly long finish with the dried fruit winning out over the spice and herbs.
3 hours later - nose has turned to floral notes (dried roses) with spice (cinnamon) and just a hint of the tar and leather. Palate is very smooth with red fruit, and light spice with some floral character emerging. The finish is still pleasantly drying (still some ripe tannins left) with fruit and light spice. Can definitely go a few more years - 5 or so - but is enjoyable now. (1392 views)
Tasted by LM Stilje on 5/16/2020 & rated 89 points: Starts a bit shy, needs to breathe for an hour or so. Lots of raisins and cherry pips. (1448 views)
Tasted by Martysfo on 5/14/2020 & rated 88 points: Good, but not great wine. Some nice cherry and smoke on the nose. A little musty on the palate. (1409 views)
Tasted by SCosgrove on 5/7/2020 & rated 89 points: Meaty, to be served with meaty dishes, really enjoyed. (1121 views)

Tasted by hitechnomad on 4/2/2020 & rated 81 points: Drinking beautifullly. Let breathe 30'. Good value Barolo which is a rare thing at this price point.

Maybe 1-3 more years left? (1190 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 11/7/2019 & rated 90 points: Enjoyable paired along side the Roman pasta Amatriciana. The strong flavour equal to the pancetta in the pasta. (1532 views)
Tasted by Fabes55 on 11/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Needed a bit to open up. (1413 views)
Tasted by aChave on 10/14/2019 & rated 90 points: Fragrant with a firm spine, but drinking nicely. Paired reasonably well with an herb roasted pork loin; an experiment! Double decanted for 30+ minutes. Served from the bottle. Actually quite attractive, with good deep fruit. (1503 views)
Tasted by pilot360 on 8/5/2019 & rated 90 points: No Decant - ahd plenty of depth with a lush very long finis and was very enjoyable over its short 1 hour life. I was thirsty. (1854 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 6/23/2019 & rated 89 points: Nice. (1691 views)
Tasted by srshane on 12/14/2018 & rated 90 points: Drinking very well. It needs time in the glass to open to the oxygen (1837 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 9/22/2018 & rated 91 points: Three hour decant did the job

Much better than the last bottle I opened. Dark ruby, full bodied.
Meaty, licorice, candied apple
Dry, tannin is still present, sour cherries, cigar box, some pencil lead
Medium finish.

Excellent food pairing wine. Decent QPR. Not sure it will get much better. Drinking well now.

Tasted by Obwanusa on 4/24/2018 & rated 90 points: Barolo Lite....a bit tannic on the front...but just needs food to smooth it out. Could still age a bit...maybe 3-4 years. (2953 views)
Tasted by HarveyLarvae on 3/10/2018 & rated 91 points: Took 3 hrs to really open after decant. Citrus, coffee and leather on the nose, cocoa, blackberry, anise on the palette. Could hang on 3-4 more years easily (2987 views)
Tasted by W2WineGuy on 2/17/2018 & rated 92 points: Very enjoyable wine. Well integrated, decanted and drank over two nights. Brickish in color, so starting to show its age. Soft nose, but incredible mouth and coats it with a long finish. Glad I have another bottle of this as truly enjoyable and look forward to having this with another big pasta meal! (3122 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
