Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by winemanintheden on 1/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Deep dark red, brownish hues. Nose is rich, bold, strong red ripe cherry fruits and blueberries with pleasant oak notes. Well balanced. On the palette, echos the same nose of red fruits, oak and some bell peppers with slightly grippy tannins and a smooth finish. 13 years of age and it still can easily go a few more years without any problems. A nice strong and solid 2005 Napa Cab Sav. (884 views)
Tasted by huevosconvino on 8/22/2015: Lots of blackberry; like a wild Merlot or a restrained Zinfandel. Really nice, but pretty hot and crazy until 45 minutes of decanting have passed. (1515 views)
Tasted by NoWineWiz on 3/8/2015 & rated 92 points: PnP. Well-balanced nose and palate of red berries and black fruit, mocha, and a touch of violet & fresh earth. Tannins were soft with a medium long finish. Worth the wait! (1581 views)
Tasted by zinfidel on 7/19/2013 & rated 92 points: Drinking great now. Well-balanced with velvety finish, cassis fruit. (2438 views)
Tasted by 2loyal on 10/1/2010 & rated 92 points: Drinking quite well now. Folks who like purple colored, well oaked cabs with a smoothe finish will really enjoy this wine. (3092 views)
Tasted by drycab on 7/12/2009: Much Better than 6 months ago. The fruit has come out and the tannins are integrating. Still not as good as the 04, but a good if not very good young Cabernet. (2840 views)
Tasted by drycab on 9/13/2008 & rated 90 points: Identical Notes as before. (2215 views)
Tasted by GZ3 on 8/10/2008 & rated 90 points: good, but maybe too early to show its best. thought the 2003 had more fruit and a bigger nose. (2182 views)
Tasted by drycab on 6/12/2008 & rated 90 points: This tastes more like a Mt. Veeder cab than the 04. Kind of lean with casis the overriding flavor. Still good, but I'd like more black fruits to carry the mid palate. (1779 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
