Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 101 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Wabi-Sabi on 4/18/2021 & rated 95 points: Deep gold. Stunning floral note. Lychee. Voluptuous feel in the mouth. Medium/low acidity but very well balanced. Long finish. I should’ve bought a case of this beauty. Served with asparagus, Virginia ham and quail egg; crepe with chives and mushroom duxelle. An excellent match. First bottle tasted in 2012. This bottle is as good. (1315 views)
Tasted by Billy Swan on 12/22/2019: So, according to CT this should have been dead on arrival. But no, it’s very much alive and quite nice, thank you. Yes, it does have that Old Testament-style that’s true to Trimbach, but it suits me better with gewurz than with Riesling. Nice fruit, still fresh and sweet, obviously low on acidity, but high on charm and perfume of lychée and strawberries. Sweetness is there, but mellowed after all these years. Pleasant surprise, while still reminding me why I don’t buy any Gewurztraminer or Trimbach these days. (1761 views)
Tasted by oursmfans on 4/9/2018 & rated 89 points: bitter after taste (2663 views)
Tasted by J @ y H @ c k on 1/14/2018 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour and follow for 2+ hours. Honey and lychees and spice. Incredible intense nose and matching palate. The acidity is a bit light and would be better with more for balance, but that would force an "outstanding" 95+ situation. Finish is very long. Interesting that this is a bit reminiscent of an Ygrec mixed with a Gewurtz. I can't pinpoint what makes it so, but it's there. Finish is very long. (2788 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 3/11/2017 & rated 89 points: Consistent with my previous notes, lots of tropical fruit, honey, and citrus, so it is a hint sweet but well balanced. Unfortunately, in this bottle some oxidation is showing through as bitter almonds or burnt caramel. Damage more pronounced on day 2, score is from day 1. (3600 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 2/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Decanted for 2h. While it's not really a dessert wine this is a good match for later in the meal. Lots of kiwi fruit, honey notes. and a hint of acid to balance. A hint of sweetness. Delicious. (3010 views)
Tasted by winebuff037 on 3/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Entertaining The Kung's and Young's (Sheshan Country Club and Our Home): Very approachable wine. Light, a hint of sweetness, great with spicy food. (3756 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 4/21/2015 & rated 93 points: So sad, my last bottle of the bunch.

This was maybe a tiny notch below the previous one while still outstanding: Amazing nose of lychees and even a bit of petrol. On the palate, lychees, starfruit, peaches and smoky minerality. Body feels a bit lighter than previously. The finish is forever. (3974 views)
Tasted by Charlie Pendejo on 1/10/2015: This was again outstanding, and didn't seem to be in any danger of fading any time soon. And again, loved by guests who aren't at all wine geeks - who says aged Gewurtz ain't everyone's cup of tea? (4121 views)
Tasted by f22nickell on 1/8/2015 & rated 94 points: A small gaggle of wines with the Seattle Wine Group (Amaroso Room - Wine Storage Bellevue): Wonderful nose grapefruit, apricots and tropical fruit; touch of honey. Spectacular mouthfeel, glycerine-like and creamy feeling. Palate had honey and tropical fruit flavors, followed by grapefruit and a hint of spice along a racy, acid-driven backbone at the end. Great acid zing and lovely, long finish. Loved this wine. (3682 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 10/25/2014: Fan-freaking-tastic! Spice, lychee, roses and a hint of tropical fruit make this textbook Gewürztraminer. It has a subtle sweetness that only enhances the flavors, and adds more depth. This is truly outstanding, and drinking so well right now that I considered opening a second bottle. Just a wow wine tonight. (3881 views)
Tasted by 911henrik on 6/8/2014 & rated 94 points: Fantastic! Had it with cheese. Everyone stunned! Will last another 5 years easily, but prime time is now! (3110 views)
Tasted by DianeR on 1/22/2014 & rated 89 points: Vivid gold color, limestone and mineral aromas; oddly a slight licorice / anise smell and a spicy nose with a hint of sour musk. Very light mouthfeel, with a slightly bitter, acidic finish. Very dry. Fresh and distinctive, especially for a 2000 vintage. The high acidity pairs well with spicy Asian foods. (3005 views)
Tasted by CRichards on 1/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Excellent dessert wine (2408 views)
Tasted by awilliamson4 on 11/29/2013 & rated 92 points: Beautiful straw yellow color with wonderful nose of tropical fruits which followed on a viscous palate with a nice dry finish. (2569 views)
Tasted by poste244 on 10/17/2013 & rated 93 points: Excellent Gewurtz encore en grande forme. Très épicé au nez. La bouche est ronde, grasse mais presque sans sucrosité. D'une grande élégance et sûrement bon pour quelques années encore. Meilleur que la bouteille bue il y a un an. J'ai adoré! (2384 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 9/11/2013: Pale yelllow - translucent in color and in aromatics where it shows the pineapple, rose and spice of Gewurztraminer, but does not overwhelm. There's a discernable sweeetness, but not so much that the wine is sweet. It finishes dry but full and fresh. There's a persistent aftertaste that echoes the spicy elements. Quite delicious. (2379 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 9/9/2013 & rated 94 points: Amazing, intense floral nose of lychee and peaches. Thick, syrupy body that just oozes tropical fruit and sweetness yet manages to finish absolutely bone dry in true Trimbach fashion. I don't know how they do it (and Cuvee Frederic Emile is the same), having a wine that is so thick, concentrated and syrupy yet so unbelievably tight and mineral at the same time. (1668 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 1/11/2013 & rated 94 points: Deep, golden color, almost copper. Intense aroma of flowers and tropical fruit that fills the room once it's poured. Very thick, with massive legs. intense off dry to sweet taste of apricots, lychees and honey. Dries off towards the end. Amazing. (2748 views)
Tasted by juffer on 1/5/2013 & rated 91 points: I served this in my wine course. Tropical fruit, especially the usual pineapple and lichee on the nose along with plenty of spice. The spice continues into the finish. Only a little bit of residual sugar. (2488 views)
Tasted by ggolec on 12/28/2012: Drank a glass on pop and pour then left the rest of the bottle in the fridge and came back to it three days later. This was good on the P&P but excellent after the air. It softened but retained the spicy honey flavor found on P&P and enhanced the long finish. Brought out wonderful elements of almonds and a touch of vanilla. Give it some air if you're able and you won't be disappointed. (3069 views)
Tasted by bpj87 on 11/22/2012 & rated 89 points: Quite spicy, with secondary character intermingling with honeyed lychee fruit. Sufficient acidity and just slightly off-dry. Interesting pairing with Thanksgiving dinner. (2460 views)
Tasted by Charlie Pendejo on 9/19/2012 & rated 93 points: Holy smokes! I'd echo cct's 6/7/2012 description - that's the same wine I tasted, related better than I could - but be more generous on the points. This was truly special IMO. And while I feared aged Gewurz might not please the assembled crowd of very casual wine drinkers, it was universally acclaimed - and it paired as perfectly as I'd hoped with the Mughal lamb roast in raisin-saffron-garam masala sauce (Shahi Raan, Julie Sahni's recipe). (3130 views)
Tasted by fournet on 7/20/2012 & rated 90 points: Had with Vietnamese food, and it was a nice complement to the meal. Not too sweet. Drink now. (2270 views)
Tasted by cct on 6/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Honey, lychee and roses. Nice perfume. Quite fresh and clean nose. Supple yet fresh with great balance and still tight on its feet. Rich yet lithe, bright and beautiful. A nice mix of fruit, acid, minerality and spice. This has turned the corner and has a beautiful mix of fruit and secondary character. Great texture and freshness, and quite long on the back end with more of the pungent gewurz spice rolling in. . Lovely and drinking at peak for me. Outstanding 91 pts (2573 views)

(TRIMBACH Gewurztraminer RIBEAUPIERRE) #3; VaynerPAZZZ (on QPR); COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-very chalky; little underlying Pineapple, spicy, unfocused, wet rock, pretty tight; TASTE-this is gorgeous, this is text book, getting a little leachy fruit, beautiful golden Pear on the mid-palate; really rounded by very focused spiciness, very rounded, pepper leaves, very structured, great balance, weakest bouquet and the least explosive of the 3 wines, but the most focused & well rounded; very polished & well-made, but the fruit is slightly lacking; PR-92; GV-91  91 points
