Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by flakesy on 7/11/2009 & rated 90 points: dark ruby colour, good clarity. Dark berries, strawberry, some spice & herbal nose. Softens with time out of the bottle. Smooth and medium length palate; dark berries with adequate tannins. A little tart, improving with time in the glass. Good drinking now but with some cellar time still left (4732 views)
Tasted by ParkHill on 1/31/2009 & rated 88 points: Tart raspberry or cranberry with a bitter edge. A touch of vanilla, but no cedar or blackberry or other black fruits. Intense flavors almost hide light sandpaper tannins. I had a hard time figuring this wine out, as it did not resemble a plush, ripe US cab, nor an elegant BDX. The intense flavors, red fruits and acid are really different from Cabs I have known. I did like this wine a lot, and the tartness was bracing and interesting. But, my preference is for the blackberry-cedar-leather style. I think you could age this wine for five more years and find a little softness and velvety rather than prickly tannins. (4786 views)
Tasted by Trouble on 6/11/2007: Drinking nicely now. Some brightness on opening which mellowed on day 2. A mixture of red berries and leafiness, with some grip on the finish. A fine effort for the money. (5064 views)
Tasted by dhonig on 1/15/2007 & rated 91 points: Bright ruby edges, inky black in its depths. Baked pie, flowers, and cassis in the nose. Lush palate, oaky, with vanilla, raspberries, and pie crust. Finishes chewey and very long, fading to a pleasant tartness. (5208 views)
Tasted by TaitaJidou on 3/25/2006 & rated 90 points: Excellent. Deep, full bodied, lots of tannins. Very enjoyable. Served with steak. (4281 views)
Tasted by jonnyeyes on 1/29/2006 & rated 88 points: Good bright burst on the tongue. Close to a shiraz texture and finish. Almost confusable with a cab/shiraz blend or even a straight shiraz. Well worth the price point if you like Australian wine. (2094 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon
