Tasted by MHanky on 3/17/2023 & rated 91 points: Beautiful, I've heard turley can age but did not think this lodi zin was good almost 20 years later. Maraschino cherries, iodine, autumn leaves on the nose.

Palate is still retaining decent black cherry and blackberry fruit. Acidity is still very noticeable and finishes with tobacco and decaying leaves, which at first thought it was corked. Definitely got better as it opened up.

Great auction buy at $50. (669 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 3/25/2017 flawed bottle: 4th Saturday Group brown bagger (R&D's): Horribly corked. (2974 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 1/30/2017: From magnum, signed by Larry Turley. Not a hard edge left on this offering; time has beautifully sculpted this. Primary elements of plum, black cherries, black raspberries and ripe apricot are now joined by secondary elements of soft cedar, rosemary, cinders and wet pavement. A 12-year-old Zin whose time in the cellar has burnished this into a perfect accompaniment to food. Try it with grilled or poached salmon. (= Outstanding) (2518 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 2/20/2016 & rated 87 points: 2004s around the world: Garnet around the edges. Very ripe fruit, fresh baked goods, and baking chocolate; cherry pit. Paper and coffee notes linger. Past peak. Still enjoyable but not for long. Drink now. (3453 views)
Tasted by fed on 11/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Decanted little over an hour to allow sediment separation (wasn't much) before taking it out to dinner. Still drank very nice, with some of the usual zin punch a bit more subdued allowing the peppery, dried fruit undertones to stand out. Group loved it and at $38 a great value, but would drink now if you have any left. (3922 views)
Tasted by ekenneth on 6/7/2014 & rated 89 points: Good paring with a roast duck but still so big that we had to let it air out a bit before drinking. (3529 views)
Tasted by whudock on 11/23/2013 & rated 89 points: Drinking an old Zin is a complex experience. The fruit and vibrance have faded and been replaced by layers and layers of nuance. This wine was at its peak a couple of years ago, yet in some ways the essence of mushrooms, oak and earth coupled with the still strong cherry and strawberry fruit make this an unexpectedly good experience. The wine paired perfectly with a mushroom ragout over pasta. (2480 views)

Tasted by ocfriday on 1/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 3 hours prior to drinking, nicely complex - aging very well. (2969 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 1/16/2012 & rated 91 points: In its prime - big Turley. (2552 views)
Tasted by dtirsell on 12/26/2011 & rated 90 points: A bit hot, even after aging, still enjoyable, big Turley.. (2361 views)
Tasted by SimonK on 11/13/2011 & rated 91 points: Vwery impressive nose full of spearmint, black cherry, vanille, caramelle

On rhe palate sweet blackberry and blueberry with some tartness (2278 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 4/9/2011 & rated 87 points: Wife thought she picked up tca but I think its our lack of familiarity with the varietal. As others noted, raisin is most prominent, some stewed prunes (not a pleasant memory from the grandparents when I was a toddler). Very little of the spice I expect from a zin. (2181 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 3/16/2011: Initiasl taste is iron or raisins. A Zin gone Bad? I will wait for the Carne Asada to make the final call. (2262 views)
Tasted by EmilyE on 1/10/2011 & rated 90 points: Smells of blackberry. Tastes of berry and pepper on the finish. (2414 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 10/21/2010 & rated 83 points: too much tar and brown edge for me, is this over the hill? I wanted a bit more fruit. I have two more and will give one a whirl to see if this was a bottle issue, but bleh. (2592 views)
Tasted by JeremyQ on 9/10/2010 & rated 88 points: Good fruit, spicy, peppery notes but a little harsh. Not bad but not a good value for the price (2800 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 9/4/2010 & rated 90 points: 15.8% ABV. Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Spicy nose of muted clove. Fairly bright tangy red fruit with more of a raisin finish. Pretty good. Probably on the downward slope. (2837 views)
Tasted by btock on 7/13/2010 & rated 89 points: Plush, nice fruit, a Turley nose of blackberry and cocoa. I tend to think of the Dogtown as a bit one dimensional, but this delivered a nice midpalate and finish. Good integration, but still by no means a thinking man's wine. (2854 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 6/26/2010: 15.8% alcohol. Probably drinking at its peak right now. Dark red color. Slightly port-like edge to the nose, but briary black fruit predominates. In the mouth, plush and ripe and very pleasant to drink, with jammy black fruits and spice. Back-end heat detracts. B+ (2915 views)
Tasted by jim_crane on 4/27/2010 & rated 87 points: Garnet red core and brick at the rim. Tight nose. Jammy with liqueur. Strange marshmallow note and then heat. Full-bodied. Volatile and aggressive on entry. Fleshes out a bit with jammy, candied fruit flavors. Tannins have a soft grip and the finish is long. This is a big, in your face wine. It's not subtle. It does not present the herbaceous flavors that I have found on other 2004 Turley zins. 50+4+12+17+4 (3128 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 4/9/2010 & rated 88 points: Deep plum nose, spice and smoke. The flavors are good but maybe a bit muted. Sour cherry, white pepper, high enough acidity that it almost comes off as sour or citrus. Still good, maybe on the downside. Drink now. (3064 views)
Tasted by kkleg on 2/24/2010: I didn't rate this because I had a large crowd at my house, but I do recall enjoying this more than the 2005 (which was opened just after this bottle). (3136 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 2/21/2010: Popped and poured. Followed a very soft cab, so the strength and tightness might have been amplified. But overall this wine dissappointed to say the least. Everything is disjointed and the wine showed no characteristics of Zin or Turley or Dogtown. I had two glasses and put the rst away for tonight. Hopefully there will be a change with the time opened. On Night two, the wine was opened up, but too much so. While drinkable it did not show any Turley or more specifically dogtown notes that I recall from other vintages. I reccomend an 1hour decant of this wine right now and then decide if it is your drinkiing zone. (3129 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 9/28/2009 & rated 90 points: Well balanced for Turley, nose of raspberry, oak, not much else. Nice blue berry, a bit of VA (but not obnoxious levels), moderate tannin, plenty of acid. Hot in the finish. Not nearly as big as we expect from Lodi, but better for it. Poor value at $52 direct with shipping, but very good nonetheless. Avoids Turley's two big flaws, high VA and overripeness (is that a word?). I have come to enjoy Zin's balanced side, and this has it. (3527 views)

(Turley Dogtown Zinfandel) #3; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-dark; NOSE-little orange zest (unusual for a ZIN), very tight, hint of cherry cola; TASTE-young & is a little too sugarfied jam (kind of fake), one dimensional fruit bomb; RP-87/89; GV-87  87 points

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
