Tasted by FRFTF on 11/5/2023 & rated 92 points: Integrated black currant, pencil lead, maple, vanilla, with a velvety mouthfeel, weight, and finish of moderate length. Pretty in the glass and the mouth. Nice. (2217 views)
Tasted by Staufer on 10/23/2023 & rated 90 points: much improved from last year. on the nose dark cherries and forest floor , great aroma . . on the palate still young . balanced
lets try next one a year from now (2177 views)
Tasted by vigure on 9/8/2023 & rated 94 points: Very pure and velvety. This bottle is almost from the Left Bank of Bordeaux rather than from Argentina. Only hint to detect Malbec was clear violet on nose. (2202 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 7/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Slightly rustic bouquet with red berries and some smoke. On the palate metal, ripe dark and red berries, a touch of sweetness and mild acidity. Juicy wine. (2809 views)
Tasted by Sam-wine on 7/8/2023 & rated 93 points: Very positive surprise. Intense nose, well balanced and not too concentrated. Red fruits, black fruits, some herbaceous notes.
At taste, med to full body, nice acidity and silky tannins. Long finish. Drink now or keep it.
Very nice bottle to me (2678 views)
Tasted by levinml on 6/25/2023 & rated 94 points: First time drinking this wine and very pleasantly surprised. May be the best South American wine I've had, definitely better than other cabs. Good flavor and depth and not at all overly tannic. Nice drinking over two nights under pump. (1913 views)
Tasted by bram_epicurien on 2/18/2023 & rated 89 points: One hour decant and pairing it with a steak bought this morning at singen market. Mushroom, wet forest floor, cardamom, sweet black pepper, vanilla ripe cherries, on the nose. Med acidity, med alcohol, med body, dry tannins, med flavor intensity and med finish. Sweet dried berries and a lot of vanilla, a bit too sweet for my taste. Ready to drink. Bordeaux style. Nose is more complex than mouth at this stage so I recommend a longer decant. Wine did taste more integrated after 2 hours. (2665 views)
Tasted by stuartwh on 1/14/2023: Steak at lake with fertitta (2531 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/29/2022 & rated 93 points: BTG. An intriguing combination of mostly Bordeaux character with some faint Rhône-y olive tapenade, spice and pepper. Rich and mouth coated with wonderful balance and persistence through its long-ish finish. So good now, with further upside. (3550 views)
Tasted by barrytaylor on 12/19/2022 & rated 90 points: med body & color, started a little thin but picked up with 1hr of air, still a young wine that will improve with age (2323 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 11/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour. To be explored over few days at Gardens.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of young perfumed floral violets, sweet spices, elegant pepper spice, blackberries, dark currants, boysenberries, dark plums, mocha oak. Graphite pencil lead with more air. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high to fluctuating medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), plush approchable medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lush blackberries, black cherries, dark currants, dark plums, sweet spices, lits of peppery spices, mocha oak Touch of green moss/vegetable around the edges. Constant earth/stone mineral undertone from nose to palate end. Long finish.
Very good quality. Complex and worthy of at least 10 years of age. (2635 views)
Tasted by graemeg on 11/2/2022: NobleRottersSydney - Malbec (Argentina) (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 13.5%} [Gordon] Malbec, cabernet and petit verdot in a 58/37/5 ratio, which is quite a way from the constituents of Cheval Blanc, to which this wine pays tribute. Fairly light nose, with a whiff of blackberries and tobacco. Medium-bodied palate tasting of black fruit, some chocolate, mushroom. A savoury aspect too; it’s not overly sweet at all. Medium acidity, low/medium powdery tannins. Even sort of palate, with a medium-length finish. Interesting wine although possibly better in the shorter term. Not sure that trying to reference CB does it any favours, though! (2094 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/29/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, smoke and a beautiful toast. On the palate a lot of dark berries, red berries, friendly acidity, some pleasant sweetness and very tasty. The wine is ready now and will probably stay on that level for some time. (1907 views)
Tasted by Staufer on 8/23/2022 & rated 87 points: on the nose some fruit . on the palate smooth with moderate acidity ,,
lacking complexity ; maybe will evolve over the years , but we are 50:50 on that (2502 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 7/25/2022 & rated 89 points: Tasted blind. Deep violet in the glass. Sweet aromatics of blueberry, blackberry, raspberry jam, some green pepper. I thought that this nose is steering me towards a Carmenere-Cabernet blend, but instead of Carmenere it's Malbec. Palate is full and smooth with moderate acidity and high alcohol. I didn't find too much complexity here, but still an enjoyable wine if you want to go big with your BBQ. Don't think I would pay this much, but ok. (2556 views)
 Tasted by levicn on 7/17/2022 & rated 91 points: 中宝石红偏紫色,闻香有奶油,草莓糖,青味,烟草和烘烤的气息,有些酒精感,入口酸度中高,单宁细腻如粉,量很大,甜美风,青椒混合着果糖和紫罗兰的香气,成熟黑果味,余味满口花香和一些香料感,酒很新,很壮,香气漂亮,集中度高,但涩感也十分明显。 (2354 views)
Tasted by VAGenius on 5/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Quick decant. Light nose of wet moss and old oak. Red fruits and blueberry on the palate with loads of oak, spice, and sandalwood. Supple tannins on the finish with red cherry, plum and notes of spruce and vanilla before a long oak note kicks in. However, this wine seemed to fall apart a bit as it sat in the glass, making long-term aging a dicey proposition based on this showing. (2574 views)
Tasted by JJYoyo on 1/23/2022 & rated 91 points: 2 hr decant. Big initial whoosh of blueberry, peppermint, dark chocolate. Palate full of plum compote, dark cherry, pepper, and a tough vegetal note. Quite high acidity. I can really see the split opinions on this because on the one hand, there is some really compelling power to this. On the other hand, there is a little muddiness to the mid palate. Overall less finesse than the 2015. Still a good choice for a big steak. While this is fine I don’t think this is the best edition of this wine.
Score: 91. Relative to expectations: 0 (3452 views)
Tasted by turkdaddy on 9/28/2021 & rated 95 points: Velvety. Sensual. Bold. Intoxicating. Better after a ~2hr decant. Long life ahead. Will try my next bottle in a couple of years. (3708 views)
Tasted by VoteferPedro on 8/29/2021: Nice fresh taste initially but decanted and was more vague and dense after a couple of hours. Probably could age for a while but in near term if I open another would drink quickly without decant (3543 views)
Tasted by Optimus Wine on 8/29/2021 & rated 96 points: The wine is superbly delicate on the palate with velvety flavors of fig, black plum, black cherry, and black pepper. The finish is long and leaves you with a refreshing palate of black fruit. Drink or hold over the next 5-10 years. (3820 views)
Tasted by Craigkammerman on 7/16/2021 & rated 94 points: Medium ruby in the glass
PnP initial notes of wet forest floor, blue fruits, crushed stone, oak wasn’t apparent at first
Decanted an hour after first sip
Changed to oaky with blueberry fruits and medium soft tannin
Balanced out nicely as it opened 2+ hours later
Long life ahead 5+ years (3531 views)
Tasted by srshane on 6/13/2021 & rated 94 points: This needed an hour or more in the decanter to open up. It is still young with plenty of fruit and tannins. This was an early open to see how it progressing. It has years left to continue to develop (3143 views)
Tasted by SteveLong on 2/14/2021 & rated 94 points: Deep ruby. Nose is definitely earth. Starts off uber funky but blows off a bit and mellows out after an hour or so decanting. Predominant tastes of earth but secondary is dark red fruits, tobacco, some smoke, flowers.

My last bottle, will be looking for more. (3561 views)
Tasted by Lexer1980 on 1/7/2021 & rated 85 points: Not sure if it were flawed bottles, or not. Had two out of a case of 6 now; both tasted simply weird...
Had the 2013 twice last year and absolutely loved it, yet these bottles... fungus? Stale? (3519 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Argentina

Wines of Argentina

Argentina has been making wine since the 1500s, tracing its wine heritage back to Spain, France and, perhaps surprisingly, Italy. Italian immigration is second only to Spanish in Argentine culture, and the flavors of Italy show up strongly in the nation’s wine, food and cultural tradition. Historically, Argentina has kept much of its wine consumption at home, drinking most of the wine it makes. But we are now seeing more very serious Argentine wines north of the border, and Malbec is leading the movement. The wine-making region in Argentina ranges between the 22° and 42° South latitude. It spreads at the foothills of the Andean mountain range along over 2,400 km; from the province of Salta to the province of Río Negro, with a variety of climates and soils that makes each region a unique land. In general terms, the areas dedicated to vine cultivation are dry and arid with a low level of rain and humidity, determining factor as regards grape health. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity and concentration of aroma and color in the grain. Soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter, decisive qualities at the time of obtaining good wine. Due to the low rain regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from the Andean range thaw, descending in the shape of rivers to become channels or ditches. Undoubtedly, the combination of these factors turns Argentina into a veritable oasis for the highest quality wine-making. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go. Wine-making in Argentina, at the level that it achieves today, has a young history that goes back to a little more than 10 years ago. Technological progress, investment and some farsighted businessmen enabled a determining transformation. The province of Mendoza is the most traditional area in the viticultural industry, and is diverse enough to be divided into zones, according to their significantly different weather, height and soil characteristics. These include the Northern Zone, which is suitable for fruity whites and young reds, at a height from 600 to 700m; the Eastern Zone, with a height ranging from 600 to 700m, and the most productive zone in the province; the Uco Valley, a zone of colder weather and higher altitudes (between 800 and 1,400m over sea level); San Rafael, with heights ranging from 450 to 800m; and the High Zone of the Mendoza River, with heights ranging from 800 to 1,100m over sea level and various microclimates, this is the zone where almost all noble varieties have easily become adapted. It is a region that is remarkably well-suited to vine culture, protected from the Pacific’s cooling influence by the Andes and enjoying a long summer of cool nights and warm days, with a dry summer climate but plenty of water available from the region’s rivers. Malbec in particular is outstanding from this area, and it has clearly emerged as the star, the darling of both consumers and critics.
