Tasted by jayrod on 11/3/2018 & rated 91 points: Lovely bottle of Chianti. Drinking very well now but could last a bit longer......served with Hunters Chicken, pasta and zucchini.....great match. (1197 views)
Tasted by abh on 10/22/2016: On the oaky side for my taste. Quite concentrated, ripe, dense but hot vintage+oak not the best combination here I fear. (2437 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 9/18/2016 & rated 90 points: A quite nice Chianti Classico. The Malvasia Nera, Colorino and Merlot really add to the body and bright fruitiness of this wine. No doubt a Sangiovese but it benefits tremendously from those other grapes. Nice oak, fruit and balance. The tannins show all Sangiovese on the finish along with the bold fruit. (1820 views)
Tasted by epiphany on 3/27/2015 & rated 89 points: Maybe fading just a bit but still very nice wine. (3025 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 2/22/2015 & rated 93 points: PnP from 375ml at Italian Kitchen. Exuberantly perfumed with dried cherries earth and a delicate floral note. Great depth of flavour on the palate and refreshingly balanced. Delicious on its own and with food. (2781 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 1/5/2015 & rated 87 points: Earthy and more rustic than I remembered, but definitely not pruney like the bottle a few weeks ago. Showing well and should improve/even-out with more time in bottle. (3053 views)
Tasted by epiphany on 12/31/2014 & rated 93 points: Third night open with gas preservation and this wine is still going strong if not improving. Gorgeous mature nose with layers of earth, spice, and beautiful fruit. Taste is full bodied with leather, ripe fruit, and walnut shells. Finish is long and equally beautiful with silky tannins. There is enough structure here for further development. (2079 views)
Tasted by Wineman3 on 12/16/2014 & rated 85 points: Too thin (2122 views)
Tasted by wine&roses on 11/30/2014 & rated 88 points: The corks are dodgy on this wine. When untainted by TCA, the wine is okay, if sweet and simple. A prizewinner? Gimme a break! (1273 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 11/28/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine continues to improve (last tasted in September 2013). Black cherry and raspberry are still the most prominent fruit, but over the past year, the fruit has become brighter as some of the dusky notes have faded into the background. Retains the very pleasant spice and mineral qualities on the finish. Overall, this wine has become more balanced and more integrated. It will be hard to resist drinking my last bottle when it shows like this. (1127 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 11/25/2014 & rated 79 points: Pruney. Glad to see BUDH's note below, because maybe my two remaining bottles will be like his vs. the one we opened tonight. (1009 views)
Tasted by Dumasdoc on 11/15/2014: Llllll (1296 views)
Tasted by budh on 11/2/2014 & rated 90 points: Pretty classic Chianti - cherries, earth, dark berries, baking spices, menthol. High acidity, medium body, medium+ tannins and alcohol (13.5%), medium finish. Tannins still a little chewy. Generally a nice, fruity, almost mellow, reasonably complex Chianti. I kept going back to refill the glass. Very nice! (1324 views)
Tasted by Cantina Hill's on 9/24/2013 & rated 89 points: Earthy, forest red fruit, balance to tanins, med minus body, med tannin, (2540 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 9/13/2013 & rated 91 points: Cherry and earth on the nose. Medium to full bodied with black cherry and raspberry being the most prominent. Picks up a stony, mineral quality on the finish with hints of spices. Very smooth overall, but still with a good amount of tannin on the finish, suggesting improvement over the next few years. (1942 views)
Tasted by anvig on 6/7/2013 & rated 91 points: Beautiful ruby red. Distinctive floral smell, violet, wisteria. Surprisingly smooth and warm, you'd say it's been aged for longer. Fruity taste, berries, ripe fruit. Lacks a little persistance but for what it costs it's a great chianti. Perfect with grilled meat, liver. Or you can waste it on a pizza, as I read many others did. (2754 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 6/6/2013 & rated 86 points: At Divo wineclub tasting. Medium ruby. Nose of dark berries with toasty notes. On the palate medium bodied with for my taste too drying tannins preventing a higher score. This wine has won quite some accolades in the past so this showing comes a bit as a surprise to me. (2897 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 5/19/2013 & rated 90 points: Earlier CT reports describe an awkward youth compared to what we enjoyed Friday night. Generous flavors of dark cherry, dates, tobacco and sandalwood with reasonable acidity and unobtrusive tannins make it a perfect chianti for current drinking. (2487 views)
Tasted by JoshA on 4/12/2013 & rated 86 points: Fruit forward cherry and blackberry but a bit too tart. (1727 views)
Tasted by Gail and Len on 2/27/2013: Had with home made grilled pizzas. Serviceable chianti. (1766 views)
Tasted by Lwelfley on 2/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Classic chianti (1742 views)
Tasted by whits on 8/19/2012 & rated 85 points: dark ruby color, beautiful in the light, gorgeous aromas of blackberries and herbs, maybe a bit of menthol too, the palate sort of bites though, there is a fruit-forward personality, an initial smooth texture and a mid-palate that shows ripe cherries and tobacco, slightly out of balance with the acid as it finishes; honestly, this wasn't given a chance to open up this evening as it was popped and shared but I thought the palate did not deliver what the nose did, still very good though, needs some cheese perhaps (2431 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
