Tasted by bcmatthias on 5/23/2014 & rated 85 points: Some cork taint (5375 views)
Tasted by drdecanto on 4/18/2012 & rated 86 points: I rate this an 86 because it didn't sing, not because it was bad like some other 86's. It was OK, if uninspiring. The fill was excellent as was the cork. The color was a medium ruby with slightly paling edges. Not bricking. This could go on, but I doubt it would improve. In the nose there was a subtle hint of raspberry. No oak or vanilla. No spice or complexity. Then again, nothing off-putting either. That's actually a big plus given what I have tasted of late. In the mouth, there is nothing much. It is hollow. The predominate taste is not on the palate, but on the buccal mucosa (the sides of the mouth) where I get slightly drying tannins. The finish is medium in length and just defines the persistence of that impression. (7066 views)
Tasted by WetRock on 10/4/2011: A terrific wine on the low end. Some reduction makes the nose a bit stinky initially but that fades leaving earthy, slight pepper and bell pepper notes. There is still some light tannin and plenty of acid to balance out the rich fruit. The fruit shows a bit riper on the second night but the balance is still there. On the darker side of Loire reds. No rush to drink but there is probably not a lot a room for improvement. (7718 views)
Tasted by bcmatthias on 7/11/2011 & rated 87 points: Far more enjoyable than the last bottle we drank in January. Light raspberry and red currant notes. Soft finish. (7884 views)
Tasted by yoel on 2/27/2011 & rated 80 points: Light. A bit dry. Fruity up front. (5828 views)
Tasted by bcmatthias on 1/24/2011 & rated 85 points: OK. Fruit faded a bit after opening. (5235 views)
Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 1/5/2011 & rated 86 points: Popped and poured. Rather austere, particularly without food. Some dark fruit up front, but not much. Drying midpalate and a hint of bret on the finish. Very good, not great. (4479 views)
| Tasted by merryberry on 12/8/2010 & rated 84 points: Crimsony purple. Cranberry, pine needles, and mulled spice nose. Medium bodied, asparagus, brussel sprouts, unripe blackberries, good acid, smooth tannins, and a dry, medium+ tobacco-laced finish. Varietally correct, but not really something I enjoyed drinking. | Tasted by WetRock on 2/14/2010: The fruit seems hidden right now behind the soily rocky earth tones. There are slight traces of plum and vegetal and the fruit still has a fleshy feel to it. Good but not great acidity. This could be closing up some and for $10 it might be worth putting a couple away for the short term to see if so. Or a drink now for those that prefer earth and mineral to fruit. (4393 views) |
Tasted by team-blackburn on 12/31/2009 & rated 88 points: My first Cab Franc and it was very nice. Lush fruit with decent tannis good QPR. (6023 views)
Tasted by Chateaunole-du-Pape on 12/23/2009 & rated 89 points: Very nice value here. Red fruits with a hint of green bell pepper, which is often a turnoff for me but here it is subtle. Only bought one of these but I might try to find some more... (4458 views)
Tasted by thirsty_cat on 11/29/2009 & rated 92 points: Smell: savoury, spicy, coriander, cumin, earthy; very unique smell, never smelled anything like it. Taste: very dry, fully body, long lingering finish. Powerful opening with smooth tannins on the finish. Very complex: smoky, cumin and coriander, lemon grass, black currant, raisin, dates, figs. Earthy mulchy notes as well as smokey cedar. This is like wine done on a BBQ. REALLY GOOD. (2602 views)
Tasted by Corgoson on 11/29/2009 & rated 91 points: Nose: a little sweet ripe fruit, floral and incense; very aromatic. Taste: medium body, dry with lots of herbal, tobacco and woody taste. Nutty, cinnamon and nutmeg. Unique combination of strong spices with hints of wild flower. Very complex wine with black currant and other dark fruits. Nice acidity and tannin level. Also some good black cherry taste. Very enjoyable. (5985 views)
Tasted by Hazeo on 10/31/2009 & rated 89 points: Again very enjoyable. Love the smooth but lush palette with hints of fresh herbs. There are tannins on the finish but they're rounded and not harsh (6278 views)
Tasted by Hazeo on 10/14/2009 & rated 89 points: Soft herbal nose. Soft but elegant on the palette, with subtle herbs and green peppers, subtle earthy fruit. Good melty tannins on the back. Short finish. Nice balance and quite interesting, but not particularly exciting. Would buy again at this price point though. Update - finish got stronger and I started really enjoying the herbal/peppery notes. Very nice. (6361 views)
Tasted by Canuckgiver on 10/10/2009 & rated 88 points: A perfect foil for boneless chicken thighs sauteed in butter and sage, and boiled herb-buttered potato. The acid was enough to cut through the butter, and the herbal qualities of the Cab Franc married well to the herbs in the dishes. Cranberry, tomato vine and a bit of green pepper, all in a good way, to go along with the sour cherry on the palate. I don't think it will get any better with age, but I'm not in a hurry to part with my last two bottles. (6394 views)
Tasted by MindMuse on 9/2/2009: Medium intense ruby in color. Initial nose is quite vegetal, garden peppers and greens. A bit of brett shows up, only after a while some blueberry, anise, dried leaves. Acidity and tannins predominate over fruit, and the finish is short. I'd had this a few months ago with a better bottle, but no notes. My recollection would put that one solidly very good, this one doesn't quite live up. (6646 views)
Tasted by Romac on 8/24/2009 & rated 89 points: I wish I had bought more of this. Solid dark purple in color, weak aromas of red fruits and phenol. But the flavor makes up for the aromas: lots of chocolate, plums, herbs, and a little smoked bacon. The finish lingers, a bit like chocolate with black pepper. Lots of structure, I opened this one a tad early. Will look for another bottle to try in a year or two. Puts cab franc right in the spotlight. 13.5% alcohol. (4530 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 5/11/2009 flawed bottle: Too bretty to drink (5000 views)
Tasted by walkers on 4/25/2009 & rated 88 points: Fruitier and less herbaceous than I expected from a Loire CF. Interesting and very good too. Blueberry is mentioned in other notes and I agree. On the lighter side of medium bodied, making it a nice food wine. (7136 views)
Tasted by queneau on 4/9/2009 & rated 90 points: Characteristic cab franc; softer tannins, strong blueberry fragrance. Stemmy; tart grape. This wine is ready, alive delivering what wines priced 2-3 times higher rarely achieve, balance, dazzling blue fruit with stems and sticks and cocoa finish. Drink now. (7366 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/22/2009 & rated 91 points: Dark red violet color; herbaceous, green olive, iron and tar nose, with depth; tasty, tart black fruit, iron, herbaceous, olive and mineral palate; medium finish (5108 views)
Tasted by Winepirate on 3/10/2009: Quite tannic without much else upon opening, but after an hour or so revealed some nice peppered cherries, along with just a hint of dry smokiness. This turned out to be a pleasant surprise for the price. (7325 views)
Tasted by PatrickinKW on 1/25/2009: This is a big, dark, tannic beast. Decent structure so it should age but I didn't really enjoy this. Worth a re-visit in 3-5 years to see how it evolves. My concern is there isn't enough fruit to outlast the structure. WS gave this 90 points?!?! Whatever. Oh, don't forget to decant, lots of sediment. Difficult to rate but definatly shows why Cab Franc is essential in certain blends, especially Merlot. Just can't take it on it's own. (7381 views)
