The wine felt disjoint and missed the Sancerre racy sharpness and intensity. I have a bottle left and will let this sit another while to hopefully get more balance. (416 views) | | Tasted by Bakerbd on 5/7/2023 & rated 92 points: Grapefruit, wet rock, tropical fruit, fresh acidity, intense (582 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 10/12/2022 & rated 92 points: These are just such nice wines (894 views) | | Tasted by mmblz on 4/9/2022 & rated 92 points: Pale lemon. Medium plus intensity nose - wet rock, green apple, pear, wet leaves, honeysuckle, biscuit. Youthful. Off-dry, medium plus acid, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium plus flavor - wet rock, melon, green apple, pear, butter. Long finish. Drink now, not suitable for aging. Very good. (1335 views) | | Tasted by Fre on 11/7/2021 & rated 90 points: Again a nice and smooth wine. Atypical due to the tropical fruit. But still fresh in the mouth as the acidity and lemon touch causes some counterbalance (1823 views) | | Tasted by Vandelaar on 8/21/2021 & rated 92 points: a very Sancerre nose with hay, cut grass, lemon, yellow fruits and a flinty/smoky hint. Intense flavor profile with gooseberry, hay, ripe lemon, a bit lactic also, stone fruits and a mineral driven finish. Good acidity but not the razarsharpness I normally like in Sancerre. Can it be the warm vintage? overall top tier Sancerre with a huge intensity. (1818 views) | | Tasted by WineTally on 7/18/2021: 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the 9 ha family domaine on the slopes of Chavignol on Kimmeridgian or “terre blanche” limestone soils with 35- to 40-year-old vines plus younger vines on the hillside of La Grande Côte. Natural fermentation and aging for eight months in tank on lees. 13.5% Abv. History: traced back to 1380. Proprietor/Winemaker: Gérard Boulay
A(ccuracy)=2: Bright lemon/gold. Soft, round varietal. B(alance)=3: Ripe fruit with firm acid structure. C(omplexity)=2: White tree fruits, creme, saline minerality. D(epth)=1: Suave mouthfeel. Good length and finish.

(1978 views) | | Tasted by wayfarer on 7/4/2021 & rated 91 points: As usual, amazing. My comment 2/3 through bottle was that Boulay makes the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world. This may not be his top tier bottling, but it always is impressive and delightful. Gives Chablis a run for the money in mineral, citrus, substance and expression. (1729 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/10/2021: Amazing on the palate with its density and power. (2053 views) | | Tasted by jtsejersen@gmail.com on 5/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Nice and good structure. Pretty notes of flowers, citrus, salty minerals. Good acidity with a savory finish... (149 views) | | Tasted by walkerjfw on 3/10/2021 & rated 92 points: With Isobel and Jeroen at Blue Point. Nicely chilled, had with the main course (fish). Wine had been open 30 minutes prior
From prior notes:"Light straw/yellow color. Fresh nose showing citrus, honey and spice. Crisp palate, citrus, grapefruit, lemon zest, mineral. Persists though mid palate, creamy through the finish. Medium weight and medium/long finish..."
Big hit with this group. This is an outstanding Sancerre (IMO)...bright and crisp wine. Perfect pairing for fish/seafood, Summer fare. Will be getting some more.. (2118 views) | | Tasted by Fre on 2/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Great Sancerre! A bit ripe but the agrumes, acidity and pear is in balance. Very smooth with a good length. (1723 views) | | Tasted by Ridgerunner on 2/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Great Sancerre (1779 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/29/2021: More structured and serious. Good stuff, will go farther. (1994 views) | | Tasted by Bob H on 1/9/2021: Consistent with previous notes - I have to admit that I’m starting to have a real appreciation for this entry level wine, as it is an effective way to keep your hands off of the single vineyard wines and allow them a little bottle age. Given that, the kind of wine where if you like Boulay’s style, this should be a mandatory case purchase in most vintages. (1992 views) | | Tasted by Mmark on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Lovely and rather big Sancerre. (1575 views) | | Tasted by walkerjfw on 11/24/2020 & rated 92 points: First experience with this Sancerre, bought on recommendation from Brooke. Chilled and paired with swordfish.
Light straw/yellow color. Fresh nose showing citrus, honey and spice. Crisp palate, citrus, grapefruit, lemon zest, mineral. Persists though mid palate, creamy through the finish. Medium weight and medium/long finish.
Excellent Sancerre. Young but in an excellent spot now, great with the fish but would also be very good on its own. Hard to rate Sancerre, they seem to have a "glass ceiling" around 92-93 for most tasters. Perhaps its a pedigree thing, I understand this is a limitation of the 100 point system and hard to calibrate against Bordeaux or Napa...That said, I am giving this a 92 based on this showing...but would say this was among the better Sancerre I have had in the past few years... (1808 views) | | Tasted by french16 on 11/16/2020: One of the very best young Boulay I had. So open with incredible freshness, zip and aromatics. Gooseberry, minerality, spices. Med body, ripe but with a high acidity, light spritz, long finish. Not a real particular fruit emerging but just a sensation of balance between fruit, minerality and savory notes. Really impressed. (1739 views) | | Tasted by Charlie C on 9/16/2020 & rated 92 points: First bottle of the 2019 vintage. Nice, oily. peppery nose. Lovely fruit, perhaps a bit more delicate than I remember in the past, but that's not a bad thing. Lemon, bit of grapefruit (not out of bounds), bit of grassiness. Great acidity and balance. A bit lighter in texture than in past vintages, but beautifully so. Picks up a bit of weight with air, but the overall impression is valid. Finishes moderately long with lemon zest and spice. Lovely stuff. Drink over the next 2 to 3 years. Could it go longer than that? Yes, but I can't think of it being better. (1986 views) | | Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 9/12/2020 & rated 92 points: This is a beautiful wine. Ripe fruit with a tropical edge, hint of honey, gentle pyrazines, silky freshness, blonde tobacco, lovely terroir expression. Seamless elegance, poised and relaxed, juicy and flowing, very good length. Excellent value. (2567 views) | | Tasted by JJYoyo on 8/28/2020 & rated 93 points: Company over for dinner and so the chance to open two bottles, yay! This wine faced off against a 2015 Fontaine Gagnard Chassagne/ Morgeots. Bias a risk because I was practically weaned on Morgeots. But I am pleased to say I would rate both exactly as I did separately earlier. (The 2019 Boulay 93, the 2015 F-G Chassagne /Morgeots 92). Very similar notes on the Boulay to last time: a very rich and not very tart Sancerre. Lemon lime, a little honey, granite on the nose. Citrus, fennel? and a touch of shortbread on the palate. Killer Sancerre and great QPR. Rounder than the Chassagne (!). Often a second pass at a wine is a disappointment; the magic doesn’t work twice. Not here: love this more the second time around. Score: 93-94. Relative to expectations: ++ (1948 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/10/2020: Delicious as always and held on to day two. (2125 views) | | Tasted by Bob H on 8/2/2020: Crisp, “sea” scent on the nose. Taut and refreshing on palate - great QPR. (1911 views) | | Tasted by JJYoyo on 7/31/2020 & rated 93 points: Doing this from memory so a lot of details lost except that this was awesome Sancerre. Nose of lemon/lime, granite , a fleeting scent of sourdough bread. Palate of lime and pear. Fantastic balance of ripe fruit and strong acidity. Delicious now but could last. Just an outstanding Sancerre. Score: 93-94. Relative to expectations: ++ (1732 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
