| Community Tasting Notes (average 95.6 pts. and median of 96 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by BradE on 10/6/2023: Twelve Vintages of Lafon Montrachet: The first bottle of our twelve vintages of Lafon Montrachet. Very, very good and amazingly fresh. No oxidation, its development was age appropriate. Good provenance bottles of this vintage will likely be ageless. (466 views) | | Tasted by rnellans on 10/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Lafon Montrachet vertical with some great champagne and reds. (Four Seasons, Minneapolis, MN): Vertical tasting of Montrachet 2000-2019: Mature. No sign of advancement. Honeysuckle with nice fruit on nose. Medium structure and pleasant finish. Holding up well but in lower third of wines. (465 views) | | Tasted by Collector1855 on 9/12/2022 & rated 100 points: 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Rich and ripe, caramel, beautiful aromas, ripe apple, apple cider, racier htan the other in this flight with pear as well. Really generous, ripe in a good way. Absolutely top. (3063 views) | | Tasted by JonnyG on 8/13/2022 & rated 92 points: This wine offered quite a lot but did not come close to approaching very high expectations. The solid cork came out easily, and there were minimal indications of seepage. Dark yellow in color, veering towards gold. Nose of butterscotch, herbs and faint white pepper. Past peak but not oxidized, just a bit disjointed. There was plenty of acidity, as well as rich fruit and minerality, just not "in harmony" somehow. Bruised apple, cloves and saline. The wine came off as slightly soft, maybe flabby though that term seems inapt for a 22-year old bottle. Not that I was looking for a lot of structure, but it just wasn't firing on all cylinders. (763 views) | | Tasted by RayOB on 12/6/2021 & rated 97 points: Drank at 67 Beautifully aged with a perfect nose and palate (1127 views) | | Tasted by WIBA on 3/20/2021 & rated 88 points: very muted. good acidity and have the right profiles but isn't a perfect condition bottle (1329 views) | | Tasted by Burgnick on 9/28/2019 & rated 96 points: Lucky to have a good bottle of Lafon Montrachet as the somm said the previous bottle he opened was advanced. Honeysuckle, tropical fruit, salty butter, pineapple and matchstick. Palate was intense with salty minerals and strong core yellow fruit. Powerful and complex with so much going on on the palate. A very good Lafon Montrachet. 95-96 (2202 views) | | Tasted by Peliot on 1/3/2019 & rated 98 points: My first Montrachet. I’ve had a lot of white burgs. Was this the standout best one ever? Yes it was. Because it was so perfectly balanced. I get annoyed by white burgs sometimes when they are too tart, too thin, too fat, etc. this one was not overpowering, just had great honey color, beautiful multi faceted nose, rich but not too rich, perfect acidity, etc. Very elegant. (1726 views) | | Tasted by dream on 12/4/2018 & rated 95 points: A beautiful and elegant Montrachet. Excellent acidity is balanced by subtle notes of tropical fruits and limestone minerals. The finish is taut and complex and it's just drinking so well right now. Very 2000 in its subtle, elegant style. (1595 views) | | Tasted by ricknat1 on 12/8/2017: same golden coloration as before but this bottle was not fresh or vibrant or rich although i thought it continued to improve, at three hours still did not resemble any great Montrachet, much less the Lafon 2000s that I had had before. double tough night. (1722 views) | | Tasted by Alex G. on 6/26/2015: Served blind - superb from the first sip, intense mineral, and what a lengthy finish! Highly recommended. (2947 views) | | Tasted by noppakit s. on 4/27/2015 & rated 97 points: Drink along with 2000 Montrachet from Leflaive and this is better at the start, typical Lafon scent combined with Montrachet terroir, elegant, brilliant, great balance and splendid structure with a very long long finish, layer upon layer, very beautiful wine indeed. 97-98/100 (3068 views) | | Tasted by BradE on 11/1/2014: This took a long time to open up, but after two or three hours of air this was singing. (2862 views) | | Tasted by BradE on 3/14/2014: A beauty. Drunk slowly over an afternoon among three of us, it opened over an hour and then drank well. (3209 views) | | Tasted by BradE on 10/20/2013: Drank the 00 Lafon and Ramonet Montrachet side by side. Both were in great shape, and both were beautiful. Two of us slightly preferred the Lafon but the majority preferred the Ramonet. Either way, this was a great pair. (3102 views) | | Tasted by ricknat1 on 10/27/2012 & rated 98 points: Deep golden color with Yquem like unctuousness and an amazingly complex nose offers pear, peach, spices Intensely concentrated, rich and yet perfectly balanced with just the right acidity. Super long finish. This wine just got better over 3 hours. I think it has not yet peaked but it cannot get much better. (2490 views) | | Tasted by steinersing on 3/2/2012 & rated 98 points: Rare Wine Dinner - quick impressions: Minaraly and laser-sharp. Gerat acidity and much cleaner/focused than the 2002. (3642 views) | | Tasted by don_quichotte on 2/27/2012 & rated 94 points: Very mineral and well-defined wine. Linear. Ridiculously long. Not the most complex of wines, though. Would think it still needs a bunch of time? Not miles ahead of the '99 Champs Gains tasted alongside in terms of nose and palate, though length is in a different league. (2522 views) | | Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/22/2012 & rated 96 points: Legends Dinner at La Paulee de San Francisco (Napa Valley Reserve - St. Helena CA): Slightly floral start with intense apple, pear, sweet poached pear on nose with powerful spice. Same fruit on palate the comes across slightly less ripe than the nose might have suggested. Long, lean and precise on the palate with incredible acidity and minerality. Truly sensational. Great contrast with its 2002 counterpart tasted alongside, with each perfectly showcasing what the vintage enabled. (4605 views) | | Tasted by Papies on 2/20/2012 & rated 96 points: The Great Comtes Lafon, A fine wine tutured tasting with Jasper Morris MW (Berry Bros & Rudd, London): Very young still. Light yellow-gold in colour. Sparkles in the glass. Light oaky notes, citrus. On the palate the acidity and high alchohol level are in perfect balance with the weight of the wine and is indeed very vibrant. We would call it a beautiful freak of nature. A blockbuster powerhouse yet in balance and with elegance. (Andreas 95 / Nicol 97) – 96, wait.
As always with such a big wine it would have been interesting to try it blind and see our unbiased reaction. I wonder what we would have said… (2961 views) | | Tasted by Alex G. on 1/9/2009: The model of purity. Unlike many 2000 Burgundy wines, this one is nowhere near ready -- highly structured and dense, give it time. B now, big upside over time (2120 views) |

2018 vintage: "marked by a wet spring, a superb summer and a good harvest" 2019 vintage reports 2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage." 2022 harvest: idealwine.info | wine-searcher.comBurgundy Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)
Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes: * "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons * "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson * "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson
# 2014 Vintage Notes: "We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates
# 2015 Vintage Notes: "Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson
# 2017 Vintage Notes: "Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson
# 2018 Vintage Notes: "The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
