Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by aquacongas on 7/14/2014 & rated 93 points: A Champagne blind tasting with 5 (Bollinger GA 1999, De Sousa 3A, Gimonnet 2000, Egly-Ouriet V.P., Pommery Louise 1998) different bottles (7 persons). For me the 2nd best, overall 3rd splitted rank, I was suprised from the elegance and crispy clean acidity, Brioche, straight finish, 10 more years for maturing (1671 views)
Tasted by Rani on 8/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Very steely and chalky on the nose. Massive acidity huts on the attack, excellent Chardonnay fruit. Tight and linear, incredibly young for a 2000 - requires food. (1780 views)
Tasted by Keith M on 6/15/2013: Wow. Not having had a lot of experience with aging Champagne (even in the short term) I was delighted with the results here (disgorged 7/08). Dryness to the max, but I wouldn't call it lean as the structure and complexity suggest a richness that simply isn't there. Aromatics are solid and lovely, but it is the intricate balance on the finish that makes this mindblowing. A splurge that was worth every penny. (1964 views)
Tasted by Atreyu on 6/30/2011 & rated 86 points: Although the aromas are agreeable, the wine is a bit too lean for it's own good and I strongly preferred the Fleuron edition of this wine. (2633 views)
Tasted by j45 on 2/6/2011: Really in a lovely place. Fresh, racy and zesty, but not the least bit lean. Drinking great now, but still another seven to ten years left in the tank. How many other non-dosé champagnes can perform at this level? (2636 views)
Tasted by Traxx on 12/27/2010 & rated 92 points: Great bottle of champagne. Wonderful citrus and general acidity to keep it fresh, though much rounder than the Pierre Peters NV consumed the day prior, great wine, would easily recommend for the money. (1467 views)
Tasted by j45 on 4/13/2010: Still angular, but shows nice lemon, chalk and briny oyster notes (1386 views)
Tasted by j45 on 3/1/2010: Beginning to hit its stride at age 9+. A golden color is developing as are silvery aromas of briny oysters and graphite minerality. Racy and brisk on the palate, it could use a little more gras on the back-palate to be a truly a complete wine. Regardless, this is a joy to drink and an outstanding extra brut blanc de blancs. Speaking of oysters... (1337 views)
Tasted by BrandrB on 9/28/2009 & rated 90 points: Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): Zero dosage. Premier Cru. Intense. Light golden color. Stunning nose: oak with a slight citrus element. Beautiful citrus and mineral creamy mouthfeel that wraps nicely around the palate. Very long finish. Very dry. It will be fascinating to see how this matures. Fantastic – the finest zero/extra-brut I’ve tasted yet. (2464 views)
Tasted by AN on 1/31/2009 & rated 86 points: Champagne Dinner (AN): The 2nd wine of Champagne dinner. Pale lemon, with golden core. Medium (+) body and medium acidity. Showing the first signs of age and complexity - notably golden core colour and nose filled with pronounced brioche. Again, managed to handle well the potato & leak soup with caviar. (1696 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
