Tasted by fredz024 on 9/24/2014: A bit corked? (1600 views)
Tasted by qcwino on 8/7/2014: Pop and pour. Oaky with very perceptible alcohol. (1521 views)
Tasted by WinoTim on 6/2/2012 & rated 88 points: Very smooth. Perhaps a little too smooth. Missing much of the characteristics that I like in a Tempranillo, but overall very enjoyable. I guess the Syrah and Grenache components took over. (2389 views)
Tasted by Ann&Wayne on 2/26/2012 & rated 88 points: We served this wine with thick cut pork chops; everyone enjoyed both. (2495 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 10/22/2011 & rated 92 points: Dark purple-ruby ink. Dried black cherry and brambly fruit, little coca, and dusty loam. Palate has lush, concentrated dark brambly fruit; off-dry with firm tannins and a long balanced, albeit dusty tannin, finish. Very versatile at the table. 92/B+ = 50/5/11/9/8/9 (2053 views)
Tasted by chuckille on 5/31/2009 & rated 86 points: Not as full bodied as we remembered at the winery. Too weak for a tempranillo but otherwise a fairly enjoyable wine to drink on a weekday. (2487 views)
Tasted by jbposell on 1/23/2009: Tannic beast! Wait another year or two on this monster. (2448 views)
Tasted by cowtownguy on 1/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Each bottle seems a bit smoother. (1849 views)
Tasted by cowtownguy on 12/13/2008 & rated 90 points: Much smoother than last bottle. Decanted with venturi and drank. Great color and fruit. (1859 views)
Tasted by wcacern on 10/22/2008 & rated 88 points: Tasted over 2 days. Deep dark purple garnet color. Aromas of dark plum, cherry, dark bitter cocoa powder, berry fruit, spicy cracked pepper, brush, and some ETOH vapor from the 15% alcohol. medium to full bodied. Big bold ripe fruit that is well structured with big firm gripping tannins. nice... but not quite as polished as i remembered from a previously try at a restaurant. (1899 views)
Tasted by cowtownguy on 5/31/2008 & rated 87 points: Drank straight from bottle to the glass could have used some time to open up. A little tight, with tannins. Will let it rest a year. (1950 views)

2006 Four Vines Loco

WINE CLUB NOTES: This Tempranillo from the "Tres Cojones" vineyard in Templeton is blended with Syrah and Grenache. Massive, massive wine. Big fruit, big structure, big balls ... three, in fact. On the palate, big black fruit seems to resonate with angst. The wine has huge structure with rich tannins. Long, long, long on the mouth, with a rich oak finish.

Tempranillo Blend

Tempranillo is the backbone of wines made ihvhhcn the best well-known Spanish regions Rioja and Ribera del Duero, but is also grown as far afield as Mexico and Australia.

As a flavor profile, red fruits like strawberries and cherries can predominate - but with a rustic edge. The Many wines made from Tempranillo will spend a few years in barrel and bottle before reaching the consumers . Many Tempranillo-based wines see a few years of oak - add that to a few years of bottle and the wine can give a subtle - and occasionaly not-so-subtle - leathery mouthfeel. The combination of the tart fruit and tannins make this wine very food friendly.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
