| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Richard123 on 5/23/2012 & rated 83 points: Disappointing -- rather one dimensional and watery. Perhaps it is past its prime. (1231 views) | | Tasted by Sennma on 5/30/2011 & rated 90 points: Would have been fooled that this is from the Rhone if served blind. Even rated better after a couple of days in the bottle. Still in it's youth and worth seeking out if you like and old world style. (1588 views) | | Tasted by jblack323 on 10/1/2010 & rated 92 points: 1 hr decant. Like a sexy, red-haired, Latin olympic athlete...spicy, full-bodied, with bright fruit, all very well integrated. After four days in bottle with the cap on, some very pleasant, deep aged-Barolo-like raisin characteristics emerged. Wish I had a few more of these. (2053 views) | | Tasted by grdnbrrtt on 4/17/2010 & rated 80 points: Tasting Room Tasting: April Promotion Thomas/Chequera. Two vineyards blend, not bad. $15.00 (1604 views) | | Tasted by gdykema on 11/23/2008 & rated 89 points: Floral nose, a subtle but pervasive sourness, reminiscent of sourdough. Earth and chalk in the finish. Quite a unique wine. (1703 views) |
| Bonny Doon Vineyard Producer website
Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."Syrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sierra FoothillsAmador |
