Tasted by PourSomeRed on 11/28/2013 & rated 93 points: Patience has paid off. this was really good. Nice fruit with a earthy blueberry note. Nice finish. There was still a little life in this wine. Might go 2-3 more years. Drinking well now . (2937 views)

Tasted by macliii on 1/1/2013 & rated 91 points: A well-made California cab. There is nothing here not to like! Deep Garnet Color, Great nose and flavor is elegant, well balanced and fruity. Went Great with the Christmas Prime Rib and got better later in the day after it had a few hours to open up. To bad Craig MacLean is no longer making this wine. (2809 views)
Tasted by shaffej on 11/16/2012 & rated 90 points: Big, inky, well structured but needs some time. Was drinking much better day two but will wait on the next few bottles for a year or so... (2771 views)
Tasted by Padraig on 8/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Second of 10 bottles that I found, like the first, this is a really good example of a well-made California cab. There is nothing here not to like! Color is great, flavor is elegant, well balanced and fruity. Too bad this is no longer being made as it's a really nice wine that will fit nicely into a tasting of better cabs. If you find it at a reasonable price (under $50), give it a try! (2306 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 4/12/2012 & rated 92 points: What a great wine. Complex and complete from the nose to the finish. I will cellar this for 2 plus years because I feel that it will only get better. I popped and poured, but a 1 hour decant will ensure enjoyment. (1812 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 3/18/2012 & rated 91 points: Clear dark ruby in colour. Clean nose of black currant, cedar, and spice. Dry, med acidity, smooth tannins, med body, big black fruit on palate, cedar and spice on mid palate and finish. Nice finish as well. Great Napa wine. I wish I had more. (1425 views)
Tasted by Padraig on 9/20/2011 & rated 91 points: Beautiful glass coating deep purple with agreeable nose on first pour after a 30 minute decant. Lots of sediment, so be sure to decant. Drank this at Applewood Restaurant in East Vancouver, WA with cassoulet. This wine really surprised me with its flavor and body. I'll buy more of this if I can find it at a decent price. (2112 views)
Tasted by rexmerlot on 3/5/2011 & rated 91 points: Decanted for an hour. Great Napa Cabernet. Nice nose, nice complexity. Great wine. (2254 views)
Tasted by PourSomeRed on 1/11/2011 & rated 92 points: What a great wine. Drinks like a traditional Napa cabernet. Excellent finish. Drink now or cellar. (2356 views)

MacLean Wines

Producer website

2005 MacLean Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

From the Producer's Website: The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is from two contiguous vineyards just south of the Stags Leap District. These low-yielding older vines produce wines that are dark, complex and full of rich, supple tannins. The wine is deep ruby in color, saturated to the rim. Aromas of black cherry, blacbkberry, chocolate, cassis and toasty oak. The full and round entry leads to a powerful, dense, concentrated evolution and an extremely long finish with mouth-coating tannins.
485 cases produced.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
