Tasted by walkerjfw on 10/31/2023 & rated 94 points: Dinner w/Val and Rowena at home, last bottle of this was in 2020. Decanted for about 30 minutes prior to drinking. Mild sediment strained, last notes indicated much more.

Notes from 2020:" Deep ruby color. Powerful nose of red fruits and dark berries, baking and Christmas spice. Rich and viscous palate, liqueur like quality. Showing red berry preserves, blackberry, orange zest, cola, mulberry and spice. Persists through the mid palate into a layered finish. Great depth throughout..."

Hasn't changed much, still rich and expressive. Dark berries and baking spices notable on this tasting.

Decant still a must, this bottle opened faster than the last (from notes). Ready to go in about 30 minutes. Checked my inventory, I bought this in 2011 for about $50...great value, wine still going strong with a long arc ahead of it. However...worth opening now. (542 views)
Tasted by Tige on 6/23/2023 & rated 90 points: Encore pleins de fruits et une belle fraicheur.
Surprenamment moins lourd que la dernière bouteille.
Dans une fabuleuse période à mon avis. (714 views)
Tasted by ClaytonDave on 10/16/2022 & rated 92 points: This is ready and drinking well. Smooth, with classic Cassis flavors. drink up. (1325 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 9/25/2022 & rated 95 points: PNP at "The Girl and the Fig" in Sonoma. No formal notes, just another great bottle! here's my note from 5 years ago:

10/21/2017 rated 95 points: PHMG WAG: the '07 Chateauneufs (Old Home of the Lyon): WOTN #2, this had bigger black fruit in layers, then iron, pepper, cocoa, and herbs. Perhaps 60:40 fruit to savory ratio. Now-2019. (2331 views)

Obviously got the window wrong! now-2025 (1349 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 8/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Twin Cities Wine Club no US Wines (Edina, MN): 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. Some sediment that was strained off. Burnt toast, spice, pepper, leather, raspberries and dried herbs. Medium plus finish and very rustic. For sure at its peak experience and drink now for sure. (1583 views)
Tasted by ClaytonDave on 7/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Ready to drink with pnp. Surprisingly, not fading. Black fruit, black cherry on the palate. (1217 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 7/3/2022 & rated 88 points: Our last bottle and this one was definitely showing it's age. Drink up. (1087 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 6/27/2022 & rated 96 points: More than six years have passed since last tasting this skillfully crafted blend of 55% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 15% Mourvèdre. From a bottle that was purchased upon release and cellared under pristine conditions, it was decanted off of its heavy sediment and serially sampled over the ensuing 3-4 hours. Now deep garnet in color, it serves up a complex package of dark bramble fruits that are garnished with Provençal herbs, cocoa, mulling spices, cigar tobacco, cecina and black olive tapenade. At this point the wine is medium-bodied, brushing off its youthful muscle in favor of a more round physique. While still freshly acidic and without heat from its 14.5% alcohol, the tannins have significantly softened, lurking quietly in the background. Dense on the mid-palate and concluding with impressive length, this Châteauneuf has fleshed out as anticipated. Those holding comparably cellared bottles will be delighted whenever a cork is popped over the next five years. At this stage it only requires 30-60 minutes in decanter to fully strut its stuff. Drink now-2027. (1084 views)
Tasted by hankj on 5/29/2022 & rated 92 points: in a great place right now - developing serious tertiaries but still has structure and lots of dried fruit. Dead-center in the window (789 views)
Tasted by DavilaDC on 5/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautiful dark chocolate, fig and earth on the palate. The nose has a touch of white pepper mixed with smoke. Tannins are velvety smooth. PnP with no worries here. (731 views)
Tasted by Hammered72 on 4/4/2022: See bottle note (717 views)
Tasted by KVM on 1/9/2022: Very dark. Oxidation apparent on the nose and in the mouth. Despite this, the dark fruit is attractive in although slightly figgy. Alcohol is there if you look for it. (1029 views)
Tasted by Rixon on 12/5/2021 & rated 95 points: Wow. Helt i balans. Utmärkt. Underbart vin, och med tanke på att jag 2009 gav 339 kr för det är det helt makalös QPR. (879 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 11/25/2021 & rated 95 points: This was drinking perfectly tonight. Silky smooth textures but with solid tannins and backbone. From a magnum. (802 views)
Tasted by bjlcrucrazy on 11/8/2021 & rated 90 points: 3 hr meant and just starting to open up as we were drinking it. alcohol prominent but better with air (895 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 10/31/2021 & rated 91 points: This '07 CdP was really singing tonight. It showed little sign of age except well integrated flavors and medium resolving tannins. Has all the typical flavors of a great CdP that went great with our grilled lamb burgers. (783 views)
Tasted by pswines1908 on 7/5/2021 & rated 90 points: Red fruits on the nose. Leather and earthy notes. (857 views)
Tasted by DoubleMagnum on 5/9/2021 & rated 93 points: From magnum for Mother's day. Tastes spectacular. Now I know my last bottle may have been heat damaged. (1104 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 4/24/2021: 4th Saturday Group (M&R's): Double blind. Dark core with some bricking- another older bottle based on all appearances. Aromas of dark fruit, bouillon and stewy fruit. Black fruit on the palate with a lingering finish. Ripe and stewy/plummy. No guess.

Showing no CndP character, other than the ripe stewy garbage that is 2007. Ugh. (R&D) (1154 views)
Tasted by SICILIAN-SOLE on 4/12/2021 & rated 93 points: Pours a dark cloudy purple with notes of red raspberry compote on the nose. The palate has dense, sweet red fruit backed up by savory notes of soy and leather. As the last reviewer noted, it definitely has a mature quality, but with a nice balancing acidity giving promise of more years ahead, but with the savory notes taking the wheel in the future. (967 views)
Tasted by hankj on 4/12/2021 & rated 91 points: Still going strong. Starting to pick up more gamey tertiary aspects, and probably many good years ahead of it if you like your wines mature. (1049 views)
Tasted by ddingley on 4/4/2021 & rated 95 points: Wow, this was terrific. Easter dinner with grilled lamb chops. Previous notes describe it well; particularly the thick, rich, long and viscous palate with plenty of secondary notes to go with the primary fruit. Tannins very mild and smooth; probably at peak but by no means over the hill and probably good for a few more years. Had a very nice $50ish Washington state Syrah open from last night and while I liked it, didn't come close to this. (672 views)
Tasted by stnicolas on 3/20/2021: At its plateau but still some tannins left. Time to drink though. A hot year. A hair of astringency but wonderful depth. Thoroughly good. (708 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 2/20/2021 & rated 92 points: Still some very good depth here at almost 15. (708 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 2/10/2021: Awesome bottle as usual. Needs to be decanted for sediment approx 45 minutes prior. Plenty of cellaring potential although doubt this will improve much. (726 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
