Community Tasting Notes (average 86.6 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by theguy on 12/30/2017 & rated 85 points: Not a classic Zin. No spice. (878 views)
Tasted by thecure on 6/11/2016 & rated 89 points: Still drinking nicely - opened up as dinner progressed (976 views)
Tasted by Italiana on 12/6/2015: Sound cork. Clear and surprisingly transparent red--would have guessed Barolo or Pinot Noir. A bit of chemical on the nose initially. Flavors deliver fairly round fruit back up by a vibrant texture. Nice bottle. (1013 views)
Tasted by Bluffan on 12/14/2010 & rated 91 points: Rich, aromatic, good structure, long finish. Unless the previous posts aren't from California Zin fans, I find the low ratings baffling. At $28, it's not the best QPR I've had recently in a Zin, but it's absolutely satisfying for the price. (2698 views)
Tasted by rben_mvp on 2/7/2010 & rated 84 points: Spicey yet subdued Zin. Not over the top with brambly fuits. A little pricey for the quality. (2827 views)
Tasted by TEDL on 1/13/2010 & rated 79 points: Did not really care for this one, not Zin like at all. Very mild, very light tannins, more fruity but not much of that either. One taster said there was a bad after taste. Not everyone agreed but all agreed to pass on this bottle. Also tried a little thru a Vinturi which just made things worse. (2425 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
