Tasted by HansG729 on 9/11/2022 flawed bottle: Premoxed (864 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 3/26/2022 & rated 94 points: It’s been a few years since I last had this wine. A great vintage from arguably Meursault’s best vineyard made by a traditional, artisan producer who usually does not usually mess it up. With 12 years in the cellar, and no sign of premox, the Gaunoux is à point, in the perfect spot for drinking now. Drunk from Zalto Denk'Art Burgundy glass over two evenings, although it had deteriorated a little on the second evening. Deep, bright gold, showing some age. A lovely bouquet of grapefruit zest, lemon Turkish delight, mixed baking spices, dried herbs, gravelly minerals, pineapple, almond paste and jasmine florals. Some oxidised, caramel notes, appropriate for a Chardonnay of this age. In the mouth, evolved, with a touch of chicorée-café. Grapefruit, preserved pineapple and ginger, nectarine and pear. Bright, direct acidity, but with (still) the fruit to match. No noticeable oak artefact. A granite mineral backbone through to the long, dry finish. To drink in the next few years. 94+. (1274 views)
Tasted by spowers0 on 8/23/2021 & rated 94 points: Gorgeous, depth but not overoaked. (1298 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 10/24/2020 & rated 94 points: Last of 3 btls. Had a badly premoxed 2nd blt in July after a youthful but excellent first btl in 2017. Tonight, PnP & slow ox 2 hours prior to dinner. Served in Riedel Montrachet glasses. Med gold correct color at age 10+. Clean, ultra fresh citrus, mineral and saline aromas. Dense minerality is the centerpiece flavor buttressed by refreshing acidity along with an array of citrus, green stone fruit, pineapple, butter and spice. This has really picked up elegance and finesse since my first btl. Great with crab legs tonight. 13.5% alc. This can be an outstanding value at $80 like tonight except, when you hit a random premox blt like we hit just 4 months ago in July. I'd love to grab more of these from this producer, if, they switch from standard corks to the newer diam composite corks that seem to work so well for other producers previously plagued by random pre-mox. Loved this btl tonight! 94pts+ (1994 views)

Tasted by john_s on 5/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Writing this note months later, but it opened beautifully and made a big impression on me. My first from this maker. A friend reported a premoxed Genevrieres in July. (1112 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 1/17/2020 & rated 89 points: During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Fresh, grassy on the light and simple side. (2205 views)
Tasted by AValdes on 1/11/2020 & rated 88 points: Came out of the bottle a little reticent but by the end of 90 mins showed some more dimensionality. Light weight and medium acidity. Good tasting wine. (1440 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 12/1/2019 & rated 93 points: Wines with Wayne (Auckland, NZ): A small pour (and brief note) but a wine I know very well. A big upgrade on the Darnat. A very good 1er white Burg from an excellent site and year. Colour quite deep gold, compared with the Damat. Floral, lemon citrus and piercingly mineral on the nose. Clean, fresh and lemony to drink. Tensile, mineral spine yet not lacking in rich, ripe orchard fruit. Excellent. (1715 views)
Tasted by Milos on 12/31/2018 & rated 92 points: Light gold color. Refreshing lemon notes with mineral overtones. Still a touch of wood noted on the mid palate, well integrated, good viscosity. Fruit and mineral notes on the long finish. Drink now to 3 years. (1628 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 8/5/2018 & rated 91 points: Wonderful again. Good toasty oak, with apricot and a long finish. (1859 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 5/11/2018: Drink at the Grand Conseil Paulee in Houston (1777 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 4/1/2018 & rated 92 points: Just outstanding. Not a hint of premox unlike the Maltroye wines from this same vintage we have recently had. Very lively, with a beautiful floral note of honeysuckle, and wet stone. Medium finish. 91-92. (1776 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 9/1/2017 & rated 92 points: PnP & slow ox prior to dinner. Decant might not be a bad idea here too. Served in Riedel Montrachet glasses. Medium gold color. Nice and fresh on the nose and palate both. Minerally citrusy aromas. Dense limestone minerality is the centerpiece flavor buttressed by taut acidity. Some citrusy side notes. Fairly non existent tropical or stone fruit traits unlike many other Meursault. Today what this lacks in finesse and range is made up for with impressive grand cru level intensity, concentration and a boatload of mineral. A bit dryer than most chardonnays / white Burgs. Great with halibut tonight. 13.5% alc. Not a steal at $80 but surely a solid value. Needs a couple more years to mellow a little and show more range but it already taste and feels like grand cru in the making. (2793 views)
Tasted by bcannedy on 8/22/2017: Wait until 2020, very tight (1998 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 4/23/2017 & rated 93 points: Pale gold. Scents of lemons and limes, pears, pineapples and rocky minerals. In the mouth, razor sharp acidity. Citric and bone dry, with minerals and wet river boulder. Hints of salinity. Precise and focussed. Good fruit volume and depth. Long tart finish. Optimally, I'd cellar for another 3-4 years, to see if it developed additional complexity. (2029 views)
Tasted by glassnost on 3/1/2016 & rated 90 points: My fault for opening this during a noisy party with kids running around - and then only after finishing a champagne with sushi, then a super Tuscan with prime rib, but a friend asked me to open another white. Immediately upon opening, nose seemed (in comparison to the previous wines) miserly and delicate, and the palate seemed smooth and the finish was complex and long which was the only thing that presented the premier cru quality I expected. Saving the last third of the bottle for the next day, the Meursault Perrieres quality showed through, but it was about finesse and length and delicacy. Not a blockbuster style, very restrained.  Tasted by JOsgood on 10/25/2013: Tasted at the Domaine. Clean and linear with honeysuckle notes. Coating on the finish. Fantastic. (3273 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 5/20/2013 & rated 93 points: Light yellow color; ripe pear, almond nose; tasty, creamy textured, tart pear, mineral, lemon palate; medium-plus finish 93+ points (579 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
