Tasted by Cremuel on 12/25/2023 & rated 90 points: Bob's cellar. Deep apricot brown. Candied orange peel and honey nose, marigolds too, botrytis warmth. Tart and sweet warm opening flavours, peaches, apricot, white flowers supported by that fine line of acidity. Very good with the Christmas baked cheesecake (no Christmas pud for Aussie Christmas!). (728 views)
Tasted by Shrewsram on 9/21/2023 & rated 93 points: Irn bru!!
Heady nose, super freshness and a pool-like frame. Intense notes of apricot jam, spicy botrytis, crème brulee, and a lazer focus… something minty? and a certain leafy note.

Bright and tangy, spicy (some heat too), lots of bitter orange, marmalade, orange rind, dry extract… lots of grip, tang, dried fruits, and a concentrated viscosity. Maybe a bit of a gap before the finish. (1140 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 5/8/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Perhaps fully mature. Very rich, barley sugar. Lovely. (1448 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 1/28/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent, but I sense that this won't be getting any better and so will aim to start drinking up. (1669 views)
Tasted by Gian on 12/25/2022 & rated 92 points: in a perfect spot. very interesting on the nose . on the palate not too sweet , balanced and complex (1724 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 12/25/2022: Solid Sauternes, though nothing special. (1323 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 9/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Excellent - a point! Beautifully balanced, not at all cloying. (1643 views)
Tasted by A_rytter on 8/19/2022 & rated 98 points: Absolutely in its drinking window. Wonderfully complex, orange peel, dry spices, pipe tobacco, dryed apricot. Velvet mouthfeel, thick texture. (1541 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 2/18/2022 & rated 91 points: Very good indeed, but perhaps outshone but its compatriot from 2001 which we tasted alongside. (1756 views)
Tasted by sirpat00 on 2/7/2022 & rated 91 points: Beautiful amber color. Dense and intense with saffron, honey, Alpine herbs. Super sweet palate, but lacks the creaminess or viscosity to go with it, also not enough structure for the acidity. (1820 views)
Tasted by bob92 on 1/1/2022 & rated 88 points: This is drinking well, but it isn't terribly complex. Lots of citrus on the nose and palate. (1878 views)
Tasted by A_rytter on 12/25/2021: Wonderful mature sauternes. Nose of Orange peel, honney, dry spices lr dried wood. Full body, fat texture and velvet mouth feel. Spices, pickled red apples and oranges. (1529 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 12/17/2021 & rated 93 points: Amazing! Still rich and forceful with beautiful balance. Perhaps at its peak? (1525 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 11/4/2021 & rated 90 points: Old gold; classic honeyed & lanolin notes; not overly sweet, Seville marmalade; medium bodied, well balanced. Holding up well. (1377 views)
Tasted by Sinclelz on 11/1/2021 & rated 91 points: Almond stones, roasted apricots, marmalade (475 views)
Tasted by Enfant sauvage on 10/18/2021: Lovely. Not the most complex Sauternes, but clean, with nice depth, and not overly sweet. Agree with some of the previously mentioned descriptors - tree bark and a bit of petrol - along with the classic apricot and honey. (1459 views)
Tasted by A_rytter on 8/30/2021: Dark amber color. Powerful nose, barch, sweet spice, condensed or dried fruits. Sticky mouthfeel, dense taste. (1534 views)
Tasted by RKCam on 5/2/2021 & rated 91 points: Quite a few years since we tried a bottle of this but immediately familiar pleasure of the golden colour, intense apricot and tropical fruit smell - which is as it tastes, with the slightly burnt petrol-ey weight. Ok so it’s not the most complex wine but the fine taste still lingers minutes after my glass is empty. Superb (1783 views)
Tasted by Kim Gerner on 5/30/2020 & rated 88 points: Amber, Too oxidative for me: nutty, toffee and caramel. Pronounced intensity and long finish (2768 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 3/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Gourmetklubbens fyrtiofemte middag: Tema Havets läckerheter (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): Deep amber colour with a mature nose showing saffron, honey sweetness and citrus notes. Honey sweetness and nuttiness on the palate with a smooth sweetness on the finish. Not showing so much botrytis, but still a pleasant showing.

Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 11/23/2019 & rated 91 points: Best bottle (@Private location): Glass: Josephinenhütte White/Universal
Popped and poured. Clear, glowing amber color. Nose driven by botrytis and VA, though quite dense, but also not very complex.
I had a 1997 Yquem a day before and the Yquem was more complex in every aspect. This bottle showed as a classic, Sauternes without the additional complexity of non botrytis aromas. Oak was also not perfectly integrated. Long, but quite boring finish. This is another example for my current problem with Sauternes. 90-92 (3542 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 10/26/2019 & rated 90 points: 4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (R&D's): Apricot ans tropical fruit notes. Light-bodied, with stone fruit and marmalade flavors. Medium acidity. (3262 views)
Tasted by tbabes on 2/11/2019 & rated 89 points: A rather deep golden-honey color, with notes of candied oranges, apricot, and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with good concentration, but lacking a bit in terms of focus and grip. (3607 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 12/28/2018 & rated 92 points: Very good, dark orange, rich with good acidity. (3128 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Last of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, previous notes since 08 fine or better - pale and quite light for Suduiraut, honeysuckle and barleysugar, hint of apricot and tropical fruit, citric lift and no caramel; medium full, long, persistent, not particularly concentrated but attractive, if uncharacteristic, freshness and balance, most Barsac like vintage of this wine, plenty of life. F+ (18). (2422 views)

Chateau Suduiraut Sauternes Bordeaux France

Just down the road from Yquem, is the large, beautiful estate of Suduiraut, 40 km from Bordeaux. On the left bank of the Garonne, Comte Blaise de Suduiraut built the this noble and aesthetically brilliant Château that is replete with stunning gardens designed by the very famous Le Nôtre. Suduiraut is one of the great wines of Sauternes, reknowned for their aromatic complexity and wealth of exotic flavours. The Château’s privileged sandy soils are well-drained and layered with gravel. In September misty mornings are followed by warm afternoons that allow for the development of botrytis cinerea, or noble rot. This in turn delivers the rich and distinctive taste of sweet but balanced wines kissed by honey and marked by lively acidity and opulent textures.

Christian Seely is the managing director of Château Suduiraut. He and his outstanding team are dedicated to the complete success of the Château. Their experience of assemblages of Sémillon (90 %) and Sauvignon (10 %) offer a full-bodied wine of a beautiful gold colour with amber tinges. The wine lies in wooden barrels for 18-24 months. This Sauternes displays harmony, power and marked complexity.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Sauternes

Le Grand Crus Classés de Sauternes et Barsac 1855 (Crus Classés de Sauternes et Barsac) - Read more about Sauternes, Barsac and its wines
– Read more about the 1855 Sauternes Barsac Classification

Forty kilometres south of Bordeaux, Sauternes is an AOC that includes together 5 communes, including Barsac. For centuries, humans have been patiently learning to master this region's climate, soils and grape varieties. But Mother Nature did a good job laying the foundation. The Sauternes terroir is distinguished by a geological predisposition to gravel and pebbles that cover limestone streaked with veins of clay. In the communes of Fargues and Sauternes, a layer of hardpan (iron-oxide cemented sand) in which vines flourish can be found. The vineyards at the highest elevations and farthest from the river have the best terroirs and produce the majority of the Crus Classés, including the monumental Château Yquem.Sauternes wines are made from Sémillon (80% of vines planted) and Sauvignon (15%) grapes. A bit of Muscadelle occasionally is used to give the wines an untamed touch. Sauternes have an "aged gold" colour that is denser and darker than other dessert wines. When they age, they develop a stunning amber colour. The nose has aromas of flowers and fruit that melt together to create a bouquet of remarkable complexity and balance. The primary aromas include almond, quince, mango, pineapple, stewed peach, dried apricot and passion fruit. There are also floral notes, with touches of linden, acacia, mimosa and honeysuckle. And as is typical with Sémillon, there are also notes of beeswax, almond and hazelnut. In the mouth, Sauternes wines have a powerful style that is viscous but extremely elegant. Its strong sweetness is captivating. Finally, its aromatic finish is something that simply must be experienced.

2013 Vintage Notes:
"the extractive ratios in th[is] year are in the phenomenal range and there's ripeness/botrytis to cover two treks around the globe [...] so appealing is the immediacy of the wines. Many can be enjoyed now for their sheer joy and delicious nature. [Some] should also age" - Jon Rimmerman

2014 Vintage Notes:
"a golden vintage for Sauternes. It may not have the depth or weight of 2010, but it has some of the richness. What has set 2014 apart is the intense lime and lemon flavors that cut into any overblown cloying character and allow both the fruit and the honeyed noble rot to sing." - Wine Enthusiast
