We were afraid we kept it too long, but that was not the case. Rich, deep flavors, lingering finish. (1146 views) | | Tasted by Cab997 on 10/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Absolutely yummy. (1273 views) | | Tasted by Winegirl1959 on 10/16/2017 & rated 90 points: Excellent, ages well! Peppery, fruity, chocolate raspberry. Beautiful clear grarnet color, great structure. (1152 views) | | Tasted by SCosgrove on 11/16/2013 & rated 90 points: Excellent with Pork Chop on the Big Green Egg. Spices, licorice, not too fruity sweet, just enough. Even better next day. (4007 views) | | Tasted by NavyVet6874 on 5/31/2013 & rated 90 points: Drink it now! Very enjoyable, easy drinking zinfandel from a good winery. Nice and fruity! (4584 views) | | Tasted by miadelt on 3/3/2013 & rated 89 points: I am not a zinfandel fan; but I did enjoy this wine. It was not overly ripe and sweet and there seemed to be a great smokiness to it. (4248 views) | | Tasted by Treblid on 11/4/2012 & rated 89 points: 17 person blind tasting average (4725 views) | | Tasted by jwells on 7/15/2012 & rated 89 points: dark red, purple hue. Dark red fruit on the nose and up front followed by some vanilla and a long peppery finish. (5297 views) | | Tasted by RobbieC on 6/10/2012 & rated 84 points: Dark, tar, pepper, tannic, not well balanced. Smoke flavors. Odd zin. (3206 views) | | Tasted by FriendsInTown on 4/15/2012 & rated 92 points: Great wine for the price (2676 views) | | Tasted by PDX-S on 3/29/2012: No detailed notes. Very, very tasty blue fruits and chocolate. Solid structure, dusty tannins. Not the most complex by any means, but incredibly flavorful with enough acid to stop it from being too sweet or jammy. Nice aromas, nothing untoward at all. (2495 views) | | Tasted by jonradus on 10/7/2011 & rated 86 points: Huge nose of red raspberry, blueberry, pepper, eucalyptus, jerky, and menthol. The taste is very rich and fruity with a viscous feel. The finish is pretty long with some odd Smoky violet at the end. This literally tastes like raw meaty cake batter. It's good but I wouldn't pay $30 for it again. There's better out there for less. (2624 views) | | Tasted by TheWinedown on 4/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Balanced. Dark fruits, a little black pepper, barbqued meats. Good, but probably not worth the price. (2899 views) | | Tasted by TPB on 3/6/2011 & rated 89 points: suprisingly tame for a Zinfandel. Blackberries and good fruit at the beginning, some tanins at the back, mellows at the finsih with light smoke. (2820 views) | | Tasted by JJB007 on 12/30/2010 & rated 85 points: peppery but surprisingly clean and fresh...nothing overpowering but it still gives a slight zing on it's attack...sharp and appropriate after a long night of great wine. | Cakebread Cellars Producer website Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book and while there, he casually mentioned his interest in one day owning a vineyard to some family friends who had a ranch in Rutherford. When he returned home that afternoon, the phone rang and it was the family friends offering to sell their property. He headed back up to the valley that same afternoon to make his best offer, and Cakebread Cellars was born. As the Cakebread family reflects upon the many profound changes in the wine industry over the last 33 years, such as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers, they note that their key values have remained the same. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson North CoastThe North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties.
