| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Finare Vinare on 9/2/2012 & rated 90 points: Light golden hue. Saline minerality, limestone, honey, beeswax, lemon peel, yellow apples, a hint of butter and a light fino sherry note. Rich ripe fruit, good freshness, focus and bite, a bit of spicy oumpf (14%), nice length with grapeskin, appleskin and a chalky, salty mineral aftertaste. Drinks well with thai curry, also really enjoyable on its own. Even better after a few hours. A bargain at €12/113 sek in March 2006 - should have bought more. Last bottle, in a good spot now. (2083 views) | | Tasted by peteng on 6/10/2011 & rated 89 points: over ripe apples, beewax, almonds. Very fresh and quite long. (1676 views) |

Vineyards on weinagen-infoAnjou-SaumurSee an excellent article on Vinography.SavennièresSavennières is a small, relatively well-known Loire Valley region producing wines made from the chenin blanc grape.
They are not conventionally fruity, and benefit from extensive aging.
Savennieres often have smells like white truffles and animal notes, even when young. They can last for a tremendous amount of time, and some people mistake the evolved aromas after 10-20 years with oxidization, but I have yet to taste an oxidised chenin blanc, since the amount and type of acidity (many g/l and tartaric) preserve the fruit in a much more effective way than e.g. chardonnay.
