Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 80 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 3/14/2024 & rated 93 points: From 750, served with lemon tart which was a great match. This bottle was rockin’, nicely balanced sweet quince and candied orange peel with a long finish. Still seems young at 14 years with very limited tertiary development, but would guess 375s more aged at this stage. Not the greatest sweet wine I’ve had but excellent value for this Barsac. 93+ (611 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 1/22/2024 & rated 90 points: Similar to the last bottle which was recently tasted.

Very rich and honeyed with flavours of boiled sweets and barley sugar, almonds and spice. I couldn’t detect any botrytis and although it didn’t cloy it could do with a touch more complexity and freshness. CHP 90 pts (635 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 1/16/2024 & rated 90 points: Very rich and honeyed with flavours of boiled sweets and barley sugar, almonds and spice. Couldn’t detect any botrytis and although it didn’t cloy it could do with a touch more complexity and freshness. CHP 90 pts (618 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 1/5/2024 & rated 90 points: A rich and unctuous combination of honey, grilled almonds, barley sugar and spice. Drinking well, I’d would have liked a touch more acidity and a bit of botrytis to give added complexity, but that said, the wine never cloyed and offered a great amount of pleasure. CHP 90 pts (584 views)
Tasted by AlexB70 on 12/24/2023 & rated 94 points: Marvelous, honey, pear, complex! (625 views)
Tasted by asajoseph on 9/2/2023 & rated 96 points: Getting better & better. Candied Orange peel, tangerine cordial, ginger, cinnamon… silky in the glass, silky in the mouth, beautiful golden colour. (875 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 9/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Half-bottle. Medium gold. Citrus, peach, ripe pineapple, intense orange peel, orange marmalade, intense wild honey, botrytis spice, and light ethereal notes, with lively acidity and superb length. The texture feels oily and creamy, if maybe slightly sandpapery texture still, but texturally there is a lot to like. Some VA. Great intensity! Enjoyable now, but should be even better in four or five years. Strat drinking from 2026. 92(+) (2026 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 9/9/2022 & rated 90 points: Very bright if not a touch blowsy, there were apricot, peach and barley sugar flavours layered with honey. Unctuous and very sweet, there was little in the way of botrytis but still had plenty of spice and interest. Enjoyable and perfectly matched with grilled peaches. CHP 90 pts (1545 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 7/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Half-bottle. Medium gold. Apricot, citrus, candied pineapple, orange marmalade, butterscotch, honey, caramel, cane sugar, spices, light smoke, and some VA, with lively acidity and very good length. Full-bodied, with a creamy texture. Still young, and I would hold for at least another five years, and ten years if you have the patience. Start drinking from 2026+. 91(+) (2173 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 6/18/2022 & rated 92 points: I posted a comment six months ago and nothing has altered my opinion. Still holding its own and drinking well. (1967 views)
Tasted by noblerot1 on 2/22/2022 & rated 93 points: Deep amber by this point with no robe. Thick tears. Nose of butterscotch, nectarines, hazlenuts, and heather. Not crazy sweet and supported by good acidity. A medium finish but not as lingering as the Guiraud. (2407 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 1/15/2022 & rated 90 points: This oozed honey and barley sugar with a hint of orange flower water. Unctuous and very sweet this still retained some balancing freshness with a rather splendid lingering finish. As a mild criticism I was unable to detect much botrytis, apricot or almond nut nonetheless, a splendidly satisfying dessert tipple. 90 pts (1980 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 12/11/2021 & rated 90 points: Very sweet, honey flavors, mango, pineapple, but lacks a bit of acidity; still seems young (even from a half bottle). - 90+ points (2020 views)
Tasted by platpeeps on 11/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Developing nicely and beginning to reveal its full potential. Flavours of apricot and barley sugar coated with honey were balanced with a pleasing acidity. It remained on the palate long after each sip and added a great deal of pleasure to an apple and oat crumble with crème fraiche. An absolute delight. CHP 93 points (1961 views)
Tasted by Tige on 11/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Jaune assez foncé.
Poire, pêche et agrumes (zestes de citrons) au nez.
Belle texture en bouche, longueur moy+, rond et acidité vive.
Très équilibré. (1864 views)
Tasted by Slics on 10/31/2021 & rated 92 points: Still fresh and vibrant (1899 views)
Tasted by MatLot on 10/18/2020 & rated 92 points: tres bon encore jeune va gagner 92-93. (3411 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 9/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Really nice tonight. Mature, honeyed botrytis. (3078 views)
Tasted by asajoseph on 12/25/2019 & rated 93 points: What a lovely way to finish off a Christmas lunch - candied orange, candied lemon, cinnamon & baking spice, marmalade & a hint of botrytis rye bread. Delicious. (3224 views)
Tasted by skifree on 12/7/2019 & rated 92 points: This tasted remarkably young. Has the beautiful dried apricot and honey nose. On the palate those flavors dominate in a full rich way, but there is very nice balancing acidity as well. There is a mineral and gun metal note late in the finish that I noticed each time I had a glass. (3099 views)
Tasted by Mr Coone on 9/13/2019: Straw-golden yellow in the glass.
Lemon peel and honey in the aroma's

Had this wine with some blue cheese => felt like heaven :-) (3228 views)
Tasted by Marc on 8/4/2019 & rated 91 points: Sunday Pot au feu at Pokai Parera (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Less intense than the Climens 2013 of the night before, but this wine still offered a gorgeous mouthful of wine, with impeccable balance. Not a huge amount of botrytis and the texture is not as oily as some of the finest Barsacs, but it is a great value wine that matched the Tarte Tatin beautifully well. (3004 views)
Tasted by M.Y. Chong on 12/15/2018: What a nose. Can smell this all day. Honey, apricot, and botrytis characteristics. Rich in the mouth with an excellent balance of acidity and sweetness. Lingering finish makes this a really enjoyable wine. Good QPR too. Interesting to see how it develops down the line. (3808 views)
Tasted by Deux Chevaux on 4/13/2018: We agree with the note below — tropical fruit and butterscotch. In addition, quite viscose, with decent acidity providing backbone. This was highly enjoyable in small pours over a week. (4549 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 1/4/2018 & rated 91 points: This time from 750. Identical note to two years ago. Very tropical. Pineapple and butterscotch. Medium body and acidity. So easy to guzzle. So many good vintages in sauternes lately. (5045 views)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
