Tasted by acristiani on 3/18/2024: Drinking beautifully now. (245 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 1/21/2024: While structurally sound in the bottle the cork disintegrated on removal.

Color is what you'd expect for a 20-year-old wine. Washed out crimson. Maybe a hint of browning around the edges.

Never tasted this wine in its youth so I have nothing to compare it to but the mid palate was a little light on fruit. The structure is still there. Red currant fruit wrapped in a little old road charm.

I suspect this won't improve unless you're really going for the aged wine experience. (585 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 5/6/2023 & rated 92 points: Second of two bottles. Unlike several other recent CT reviewer notes, I had no issues with the cork and sedimentation was minimal for a 20 yo cabernet. Continues to be a very good wine, the ripe fruit and vanilla flavors that are associated with younger Silver Oak wines have dissipated. The wine opens on the palate with mocha and cedar notes which add some blackberry highlights toward the middle of the finish. (1110 views)
Tasted by Chefcar on 12/24/2022 & rated 89 points: Opened it and while the cork crumbled into chaos, the wine was very good. Still full bodied - acidity settled down quite a bit for a well wounded pour. Don’t hold too much longer. (1376 views)
Tasted by Lobster27 on 8/20/2022: Depends on what you’re looking for. At 19yrs it’s so smooth that I find it’s a bit past it’s prime. Still delicious though. Tannins are very smooth but full bodied. Everything’s so balanced low acid if any. Tons of sediment in the bottle. Dark fruits but at this point it’s Al hard to pick out one in particular. Very good stuff. I’d be curious to try a 2008.  Tasted by ikkaariainen on 5/6/2022 & rated 94 points: Enjoyed over a cassoulet dinner with a group from our wine club. Stellar, drinking absolutely beautifully, at or possibly just past prime so definitely time to drink up any remaining holdings. A definite step up at this point of maturity from the accompanying '03 Alexander Valley bottling which had much less fruit and had more secondary flavors developing. Highly recommend with caveat that it is time to drink these up. Mature, soft mouth feel, medium - full bodied, surprisingly complex and completely integrated with fruit still very present, soft oak present and tannins cometely resolved. Beautiful long lingering aftertaste. Warm dark surprisingly aromatic nose of dark stone fruit, oak, red currant and red cherry. Flavor profile of well controlled oak, plum, dark cherry and classic cassis with earthier smoke, stone and leather notes developing on the mid- late palate. Sat for about 30 minutes in the glass to open up and this was enough aeration - if decanted a very short splash decant will suffice. Along with a '13 Clos des Papes CDP my WOTN in some very serious competition. (1896 views)
Tasted by kenski on 10/1/2021 & rated 91 points: Had to finagle a broken cork out. Filtered (had some sediment and broken cork) and decanted it... one hour and 45 minutes, and then tasted it. I was concerned I held it too long, but I figured it was worth a shot, so I kept in the decanter til 3 hours. I liked it much better at that point. I guess it was a little past it's prime but still very very good. Sat outside and enjoyed a nice Friday night. (2277 views)
Tasted by SLO Wine 555 on 3/6/2021 & rated 89 points: Tannins are gone. Heavy fruit, medium acid, the wine smells like boysenberry..2003 is past it’s prime, drink it it now. (2388 views)
Tasted by Marc S on 12/13/2020 & rated 90 points: - Brick color with fast forming legs. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry, raspberry and black currant with a medium body. Smooth texture with a short finish - The nose on this wine is great. Unfortunately, it has past its peak. Drink up. (2421 views)
Tasted by Gladstone Lake on 11/26/2020 & rated 92 points: Still drinking well IMO. Color, bouquet, body and finish all hanging in there still. Fruit a little dominated by licorice and green pepper, otherwise the rating would be higher. (2147 views)
Tasted by ppandian on 11/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Dark fruit, pencil shavings, graphite, dark currents and oak. Good grip and long finish. (2272 views)
Tasted by garrigue65 on 8/29/2020 & rated 90 points: Decanted for three hours. Dark fruit and some pencil shavings and earth with slight tobacco notes. Very smooth nd mature tannins. Very nicely made California cab. (1853 views)
Tasted by Jscalia on 4/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Beautiful. Slightly tannic on opening, moderating after a few minutes. Dark cherry flavors and nose. (1905 views)
Tasted by B&T on 2/9/2020: This held up just fine. Really in an amazing spot right now. (2009 views)
Tasted by moega on 5/6/2019 & rated 90 points: Still holding steady and representative of its brand and the region. Wouldn't wait on this much longer though....... (3024 views)
Tasted by Flipper36 on 4/19/2019 & rated 91 points: Still holding strong. (2932 views)
Tasted by skifree on 2/10/2019 & rated 91 points: This was my first Silver Oak. Though it is not my style, this was obviously well-made, with lovely fruit shining through the new oak. (3088 views)
Tasted by AYKC on 12/19/2018 & rated 93 points: Really enjoyed this cab, it’s not hiding anything. Beautiful, elegant, light and layered. I fear it’s an older style the world is moving away from, but it’s glorious. (2860 views)
Tasted by Pjzlotnik on 11/15/2018 & rated 89 points: smooth, dark berry with hint of chocolate. light finish. some sediment Won't last much longer. (2756 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 4/26/2018 & rated 89 points: Classic but curt; the fruit is losing the race. Might as well drink now. (3706 views)
Tasted by JeffG on 12/17/2017 & rated 93 points: Classic cab. Opened after 1 hour in decanter.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It tastes like blueberry wit cherry finish. The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. (3975 views)
Tasted by Magnolian on 12/9/2017 & rated 88 points: Last bottle of a case. Any fruit flavors are nearly completely gone. Silky, but not much to taste. Had a nice run but now clearly past its prime. (4017 views)
Tasted by WineCPA on 11/15/2017 & rated 94 points: This is it boys and girls. It's at its peak. Drink'em if ya got 'em. Plenty of fruit on the palate with a fantastic nose of black fruit, smoke, leather and tar. Still has some drying tannins so food is in order. (4035 views)
Tasted by bookman on 5/7/2017 & rated 91 points: Incredible bouquet but very soft. Almost no tannins left. If you have this wine I would drink it soon. I had three bottles left and will be finishing the other two shortly. This was an unusual wine to me in that the bouquet gave the impression of being very fruit forward but the actual taste was much more subtle.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. (8331 views)
Tasted by Rcolella on 5/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Excellent tannins drinking great now. Can hold 2 more years. (6939 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
