A little thick from the age. The color was a very nice straw - looked much younger than it was. Apple and caramel as others have noted plus some grassiness. A good deal of acidity giving it structure. (2284 views) | | Tasted by ilsa on 3/30/2011: Found in the back of the cellar. Thought it would be a goner but pulled the cork anyway. Surprisingly, it's not. Reminiscent of a Tarte Tatin with buttery, caramelized apple flavors. Drank with a St. André triple crème cheese and Carr's wheatmeal biscuits. Still has abundant fruit, some acidity, and the apple/caramel flavors described by others. (2901 views) | | Tasted by Winemob on 9/8/2007 & rated 90 points: Although there is not a lot of time left, this was a great example of how well Landmark Chardonnay can hold up. Still a hint of oak with ripe green apple flavors. Nothing here is overdone, everything about this wine is subtle and continues to impress. (1277 views) | | Tasted by David Stanley on 11/4/2006 & rated 90 points: A great light buttery flavor, a smooth finish. Wish I had more. (1675 views) | | Tasted by Zindoctor on 3/16/2006: More buttery than expected (1792 views) | | Tasted by paulg936 on 12/23/2005 & rated 91 points: Still good color and full body with excellent fruit and duration - toward end of maturity window - Drink Now (1809 views) | | Tasted by Stephan O on 4/18/2005 & rated 90 points: This Chard is not particularly hefty or complex, but it makes a nice showing with overall balance and grace. The nose provides some generic but pleasant toasty oak; the attack is clean and dry; and on the palate are hazelnut, apple, and pear, backed by a strong--but not, in my view, overpowering--acidic backbone. The finish is nutty as well, albeit just a touch hot. This is great for casual sipping, given its faithfulness to the varietal and its competitive pricing ($22). (1822 views) | | Tasted by futronic on 6/23/2004 & rated 90 points: Golden yellow colour. Aromas of vanilla, oak, pear, white peach. Full-bodied, creamy, with pear, vanilla, and spice. Not overly buttery. Moderate-long finish, ~35-40s with pear and spice notes. (1541 views) | | Tasted by JKahn on 3/24/2004: Sparkling pale yellow color in the glass. The nose suggested green apples and the first taste backed that up. A feeling of spiciness is also noticable. Finish is very nice, making you look forward to the next sip. Very nice wine, especially for a Californian Chardonnay. (2900 views) | | Tasted by babnik on 3/9/2004 & rated 89 points: Buttery with subtle citrus aromas plus pronounced EtoH. Flavors of tropical fruits (papaya?), fig, vanilla, and woody spice. Tense acidity makes it interesting, but also overpowers a bit on the finish. Nice wine, but I think it needs a couple of years to come together. (1974 views) |

| Landmark Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
