Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 129 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by _Xenon on 3/13/2024 & rated 90 points: Served at room temperature - too warm, showed a lot of heat (199 views)
Tasted by DB Lawton on 1/28/2023 & rated 88 points: Penned heavy on alcohol but that seemed to blow off after 20 minutes. Dark color, medium body, very smooth and easy drinking. I get cherries and milk chocolate but the fruit seems slightly stewed, probably should drink now if in the cellar. (1073 views)
Tasted by _Xenon on 12/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Consistent and lovely as always. Decanted for 90 minutes. (1063 views)
Tasted by jesperarent on 9/17/2022 & rated 88 points: Meget fad præget, men god vin. Lang eftersmag. Måske vil nogen sige den er for meget fad? (1537 views)
Tasted by 716_cellar on 5/30/2022 & rated 91 points: Big wine. Met expectations. Mellowed out a bit and was overall better on night 2. (1837 views)
Tasted by Side Hustle Wino on 5/26/2022: Just ok. The Blue-Eyed Boy is far superior in my opinion. (1718 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 3/22/2022 & rated 90 points: A touch rounder and softer than I remember from previous tastings--time in the bottle has been good for this wine. (1379 views)
Tasted by GregersJ on 10/15/2021: Maybe the company pushed it up to 4.5 but it is a really lovely and powerful wine with many layers unfolding. And it goes really well with strong Malaysian rendang! Not an easy task. (1902 views)
Tasted by sstoll33 on 10/3/2021 & rated 91 points: tasty, full bodied and a great value (1570 views)
Tasted by WineGeek1989 on 2/19/2021 & rated 93 points: On the nose- Full throttle dark berries, black cherries, dark blueberries, blackberries, cassis, red flowers, licorice, fresh coffee grounds, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, baking spices, oak, cedar, vanilla, nutmeg

On the palate- Full throttle dark berries and black cherries, dark blueberries and blackberries, cassis and red flowers, licorice and fresh coffee grounds, dark chocolate and milk chocolate, baking spices and oak, cedar and hint of vanilla and nutmeg. The finish is massive and over the top with the fruit and lushness. This wine is big and super over the top in every way but that is what makes it great in a special way. This wine is drinking killer now with about a 30 minute decant. I see this wine aging for another 5-7 years if not longer with no problem (2431 views)
Tasted by chuckos77 on 2/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Always consistent, big fruit bomb. (2060 views)
Tasted by Susann61 on 1/23/2021: My favorite (2017 views)
Tasted by lewisrise on 1/9/2021 & rated 84 points: Very disappointing vintage compared to other Molly Duker I’ve drank before. Very Jami blackberry with hints of chocolate and pepper. Really no mid pallet or finish to speak of other than alcohol heat. (1761 views)
Tasted by gnsti on 12/11/2020 & rated 85 points: 스모키, 오키, 바닐라, 과실향이 풍부하고 흙향도 조금 있다. 풀바디에 가까웠고 처음엔 알콜이 조금 튀었으나 금방 부드럽고 실키해지며 막판에는 산도도 조금 올라왔다. 높은 도수에도 음식과 같이 마시기 아주 좋았다. (2009 views)
Tasted by RobbieC on 10/11/2020: Meh. Nothing special here. Previous community notes expressing disappointment are accurate. Average shiraz and not a great QPR. (1800 views)
Tasted by RoyaltyCoins on 10/4/2020 & rated 85 points: Deep ruby

Nose: Amaretto, kirsch, white pepper, oak spice blend.

Mouth: A wash of stewed bing cherry, melted red currant, and cherry liquor. Massive barrel toast flavors show up on the back end, with white pepper and nutmeg flavors. Toward the end of the midpalate this takes on a slightly medicinal note that mingles poorly with the high alcohols. Very little acid, tannin, or backbone to speak of.

Overall: This is a notable step down from years past, with any purity or accuracy in the fruit completely missing in lieu of jammy, stewed cherry and currant flavors that have almost no structure and a huge, boozy alcohol presence that overwhelms. Having had this wine in good years before, asking the same price for quality like this is price gouging. This is not up to par based on what I expect from Mollydooker. Drink now.

Tasted by drdecanto on 9/1/2020 & rated 75 points: I've been a big fan of Mollydooker in the past and then found their wines to be unavailable. Bought 6 of these and 6 of the Two Left Feet a few days back. Loved the Two Left Feet. This leaves me cold though. In the nose, dark overly ripe to dried and reconstituted black fruits. Syrupy on the nose, perhaps even a touch of menthol and an inch away from vegetal. Not really pleasant. Moving on now that I've set the table, in the mouth it hits the mid-palate sour and bitter. Nothing forward and sweet. No fruit. There is sharpness and persistent bitterness in the mid-palate and it has a long, long finish that is bitter. This wine is flawed and I don't often say that. I don't think this is a bad bottle, but I might try another. (1962 views)
Tasted by Alpton on 8/30/2020 & rated 86 points: Ripe blackberry, prune, sun dried bush, wet tobacco, hints of mint.Full bodied, rich with soft tannin. Fruit and oak driven, with hints of glycerine. The palate lacks complexity. Cherry liquor on the long and boozy finish. (1780 views)
Tasted by Vinoguy on 7/17/2020 & rated 80 points: Popped and poured, did the Mollydooker shake (a gimmick?)

I am a fan of big, bold, fruit forward Aussie Shiraz, and drink plenty of it. But I don't get this. it doesn't do anything for me. Probably because it doesn't have the hallmarks of good Aus Shiraz.

Simple, full bodied, fruit bomb. The lack of tannins and huge fruit give it a simple but dull mouthfeel, the acidity adds sourness and alcohol (16%) lingers from the nose to the finish. Overall it just lacks any sense of personality or interest.

I do hope it improves tomorrow but tonight, I just do not understand the rave reviews and 90+ points other tasters have given it. I could blame bottle variation but see so little of this now that stelvin closures are so prominent in New World wines. Of course there are other factors to consider, but still.... (not rated on night one, but if pushed.... 84-86 max)

Night two. Can't finish the bottle, just alcohol, soured fruit and oak. Not for me. 80pts. (1969 views)
Tasted by pk2018 on 7/4/2020: Strong vanilla. Oak notes jacob says sweet. (1695 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 7/3/2020 & rated 86 points: What an apt name for a wine. Big bold #aussiewine lots of fruit on the nose, with some spice and oak in the background. More fruit and body on the palate, not in an overtly jammy way, decent acidity, maybe a little too much alcoholic bite for me. I can see lots of people liking this wine, but it's not my style, but it was very drinkabke and certainly decent enough maybe a tad expensive £25 @majesticwine but worth a try if you like this style to #giveanewwineago 86 (1400 views)
Tasted by frontenac on 6/21/2020 & rated 85 points: Full bodied, not complex, nice balance, clean. A bit pricey for what it is. (1691 views)
Tasted by Richard123 on 6/12/2020 & rated 88 points: Nice enough, in a big, bold, brash way. But also a bit one-dimensional... It's obviously the style, but I think I prefer the slightly more complex styles of Syrah, especially for the price point. (1756 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 6/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind. Deep ruby w/ a purple hue. Med (+) nose of ripe black cherry, overripe black plum, blueberry, ripe red cherry, violet, mint, black pepper, licorice, smoke, chocolate, caramel, clove, cedar, vanilla. Dry, but very fruit forward (3 g/L RS), consistent with the nose. Med acidity, med to med (+), fine grained, well integrated tannin. Very high alcohol (16%). Full-bodied, med (+) to intensely flavored, with a med (+) finish. Very good quality. Drink now, not likely to improve with further aging. It is barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak, using 42% new, 42% one-year-old and 16% two-year-old barrels. (1703 views)
Tasted by heidoanddave on 5/31/2020 & rated 91 points: Great value for price. Rich fruit. (1449 views)
