Community Tasting Notes (average 94.5 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgnick on 1/12/2024 flawed bottle: TCA (354 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 4/16/2023 & rated 96 points: Chez JPL: flint, citrus and tons of stones. High density and very long. Enormous bottle. (460 views)
Tasted by WIBA on 8/22/2022 & rated 94 points: beautiful freshness, full rich reduction citrus lime acidity beautiful. Nutty. (640 views)
Tasted by LB88 on 12/11/2021 & rated 94 points: Characteristic Coche driven fuel nose, crystalline and razor precision with hazelnuts, almonds and honeyed pineapple on the palate. Just wished it were a little longer on the finish. But overall just superb. Drank at Le jardin des crayeres (1067 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 1/16/2021 flawed bottle: Club Blind Tasting (Repulse Bay): Number 27725. Slightly corked, can still find gunpowder and flint. Fairly good layers. Shame. (1196 views)
Tasted by vetty on 1/16/2021 flawed bottle: corked (1163 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 9/14/2020 & rated 94 points: Gunflint aromatics. Citrus, sharp acidity. Loses focus a bit if nitpicking. (27724) (1338 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 8/28/2020: Lovely if a bit tired. Not as long as 01 and finish a bit astringent. (931 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 5/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Coche sensation of popcorn, grilled nut and gunflint. Good richness on the palate yet I expect more complexity for a Perrieres. I doubt it will improve further with aging. Drink up. (1112 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 2/3/2020 & rated 94 points: Darker color. Some matchstick, lemon and secondary notes. Rich, big mid palate. Lacks freshness. I would drink up. (781 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 1/31/2020: DRC in AZ - Tucson Comes to Scottsdale: Served blind, this stood out as the most obvious wine in the lineup. Mature Coche Dury wines have a density to them that few other producers can match, and this was really apparent here. Also the '97 vintage showed itself with dark color and mature secondary notes. It's an excellent wine, but I wonder if we have missed something by waiting this long. (1141 views)
Tasted by BradE on 1/31/2020: A vintage I've not had before. A nice wine, but for me not particularly noteworthy. (981 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 1/17/2020 & rated 97 points: During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Awesome wine, match stick, minerals, lemon. Very grand as always from this house. Why dont they just give the whole appellation to them... (1612 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 4/14/2018: Impeccable bottle, youthful and vibrant on the palate, a touch of green to the golden color. A very recognizable flinty Coche signature, beautiful and enticing from the start but we felt it would reveal more with air. Put aside half the bottle for about an hour, and when we returned it was indeed deeper and richer, but more oak showing and not quite as polished. A serious wine that commands attention, doesn't stay in one place long. If only more 97's were drinking like this... (1062 views)
Tasted by FYC on 2/16/2018: High acidity like the Enseigneres but much richer and longer on the palate. Ripe peach fruit with a touch of lemon custard and hint of buttered popcorn. Lovely. (1015 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 11/18/2016 & rated 94 points: Still very good but the nose is slightly more recessed than the last bottle, probably peaked for the vintage, time to drink up. (1963 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 3/25/2016: On the back side of peak, though still delicious. Dark color, awesome nose, long finish - but not as precise as the 2000 Leflaive Chevalier. Improved nicely with air, strutted its stuff a bit more. Drink sooner than later. (1826 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 11/7/2015 & rated 95 points: Aromaric fireworks right from the start, lots of toasted nuts, caramel and honey. Lovely palate with hints of white flowers and honey, still with good definition, more aromatic with every pour, mature and at the very right time to drink now. Long finish with slightly softened acidity. (2036 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 11/2/2015 & rated 96 points: Toasted nut, caramel, butter, popcorn, durian, tropical fruit, honeysuckle. The palate had tremendous length and depth with intense nutty flavor. It gave you more depth and power with more time in the glass. The elegance and intensity were perfectly balanced. Long life ahead. Drinking beautifully. (2339 views)
Tasted by coremill on 3/30/2015 & rated 93 points: Bright, light gold color. Slightly reductive as expected, so we decanted it, and the air helped. The nose is the essence of Meursault, with fully integrated ripe peach, lime, hazelnuts, vanilla bean, and lots of chalk. Dense and subtly powerful but not showy, the power shows not up front but only in the midpalate, so at first it seems a little reserved before doing a slow build through the midpalate and into the finish, where the fruit takes a backseat to the intense minerality, which is chalky and almost tannic in character. An excellent pairing with a lobster ravioli dish, and a real treat to find a white burg at 18 years that hasn't collapsed. First time I've had a chance to try Coche, and this wine justifies the hype. Too bad the wines are so damn expensive. (2154 views)
Tasted by Chuck Miller on 5/29/2006 & rated 95 points: Decanted 2-3 hours before first tasting, this started out a little lean and tart, and seemed unlikely to come around. No worries, mate, the pedigree comes thru in the end. Maybe an hour more air time and swirling in the glass, the nose bloomed with a huge, oily, piney blast, and the palate seemed to pick up far more weight. Kept going strong for hours, always improving. A great 1997. Drink now with extended decanting time, can age another 5-10 years. (3034 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
