Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 71 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Sven D on 1/1/2024 & rated 87 points: Goudgeel met oranje tonen. (416 views)
Tasted by WakeMeUpBeforeYouPinot on 2/5/2023 & rated 93 points: Nose of honey, macadamia, green fig, starchy fall apple and lilac. Viscous honey on the palate. Not overly heavy, though acidity could have been more prominent. White pepper, melon, nutty, marmalade. With a touch more acid this would be phenomenal, but this bottle was still quite good (653 views)
Tasted by Amberissey on 11/27/2022 & rated 89 points: Marzipan, hazelnuts, cold steel, warm apple crumble on the nose. On the palette, the fruit less there, but added ginger, and nice acidity giving a real tingly feeling on the tongue. Some herbaceousness and mild pithy bitterness too. The richness of the nose didn’t translate though. (761 views)
Tasted by paintinginacave on 11/26/2022 & rated 88 points: Pours a medium gold. More restrained and less exuberant than some of the white Hermitage I’ve enjoyed in the past with baked yellow apples, honeysuckle, blanched almonds, dry river rocks, honeycomb, and camomile. There’s a touch of spice and bitterness on the palate, which is concentrated and persistent. (697 views)
Tasted by rsazima on 10/23/2022 flawed bottle: Sadly oxidised likely due to poor storage. Even so one could see the shadows of what would have been a great wine… (768 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 1/21/2022 & rated 91 points: Nez de paille sechee au soleil, pomme jaune, hint of confit citrus… Superb citrus acidity, concentrated with big fatness, hazelnut, green apple finish. (1216 views)
Tasted by Charlie C on 12/7/2021 & rated 90 points: Lovely gold color. Honey and lemon on the nose. Viscous fruit on the palate, honey, lemon, apricot. Nice acidity, great balance. Finishes long with delicate notes of honey and almond. Bright, fresh, no oxidation. I'd guess this is at peak or perhaps a little past. Drink over the next year or so. (828 views)
Tasted by Vancouver on 12/5/2021 & rated 95 points: Beautiful light golden in appearance.

Complex and pronounced aromas of citrus, honeyed apples, baking spice , some stone fruits and a hint of vanilla

Full bodied with a surprising level of structure and acidity to keep things fresh. The finish is long and delicious and keeps you coming back for more.

Dink now, but I suspect this will be better in 5 years- but who really knows. (840 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 11/15/2021 & rated 89 points: Nose of golden straw, hint of apricot, nuts... Taste of yellow apples, hint of madeira, average lenght. (937 views)
Tasted by worldtraveler1987 on 5/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Golden hue, low to medium acid, full bodied, honey and apricots flavor? (1185 views)
Tasted by vindictive on 5/2/2021: very good example of a white Rhone and none of the over-oaked nonsense of some of the more expensive cuvees (1082 views)
Tasted by Charlie C on 3/8/2021 & rated 90 points: Dark gold color. The nose is honey and floral with a bit of an astringent note. Viscous on the palate, honey, stone fruits. Lush acidity (if that's a thing!) and great balance. Finishes moderately long with lemon and a nutty note. Quite nice, but here's the caveat. This quickly peaked with air (perhaps 10 minutes) but then started a slow decline starting at about 45 minutes. So, don't even think of decanting, just pop and pour. I'd drink over the next year or two. (1162 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 11/21/2020 flawed bottle: Had this wine twice from my cellar at constant excellent level. This bottle was totally finished, but the cork was perfect 🤨. Over the last few years I had a few early matured hermitage’s from Chapoutier. Should be careful. (1326 views)
Tasted by juffer on 2/25/2020 & rated 88 points: I served this in my wine course. Fairly simple nose of cherry and a touch of mint. Medium weight in the mouth. A bit too rounded and soft for my tastes. Finish is modern with polished tannins. Slight licorice in the finish. (477 views)
Tasted by juffer on 1/23/2020 & rated 92 points: I served this in my wine course. Nose of ginger, mango and touch of cashew. Very rich, creamy, full bodied. Finishes with return to cashew and chewy texture. Very nice. (1769 views)
Tasted by fpch@outlook.com on 10/5/2019 & rated 97 points: What a wonderful representation of the terroir. Creamy with just a zest of bitter in the aftertaste. (1667 views)
Tasted by JJYoyo on 8/23/2019 & rated 92 points: Lighter body than I was expecting. Lovely nose of peach, apricot, fresh flower leaves. On the palate just a touch of honey on top of ripe white fruit. Slightly oxidized. Don’t think there is a point to keeping it longer. Drink up. For a white Hermitage, delicate and poised, with none of the heaviness or bitter edges that can crop up. Not overly sweet either. Very fine.
Score: 92-93. Relative to expectations: + (1816 views)
Tasted by Baron Samedi on 5/13/2019 & rated 90 points: V aromatic, peaches and floral note. Complex on palate, fragrant without being overtly sweet. This is a terrific wine, will seek out again. (1860 views)
Tasted by WineWimpie on 5/5/2019 & rated 93 points: Colour turning towards gold. Nice nose from dry fruits, peaches, some honey; rather complex. Very slight oxidation (I bought this bottle from a delicatesse food shop where it might not have been stored correctly). Balanced taste of rounded acidity with mellow fruit. Medium long finish. From this bottle I would say: drink now. (1705 views)
Tasted by sung251 on 8/31/2018 & rated 90 points: the wine was bright orange which made me think that the wine went through accelerated ageing considering how old the wine is. The wine has notes of oxidized apples. Interesting and delicious but if this is what the wine is supposed to taste like then i would say it is a bit weak on the qpr side (1953 views)
Tasted by garymouton on 4/12/2018 & rated 95 points: This has really improved just in the last year or so. It is now well rounded, mature, with hints of fruit, stone and fantastic length on the finish. I enjoyed this with a whole grilled snapper and the wine and food married very well. Very complex and although it might stay at this point for several years, I dont see it benefitting from more storage. I will probably consume mine within the next 3-5 years. (2351 views)
(2769 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 6/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Full-bodied, unctuous and rich, with a glycerined texture and enough acidity to balance out the lush melon and fig taste. A touch of smoke on the finish. (2851 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 3/24/2017 & rated 93 points: always a nice bottle, light citrus notes with lush stone fruit and tropical fruit notes. Rich and lush. (2944 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 2/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Smells like a colorful spring meadow and tastes like cote d'Or on steroids. This wine is full-bodied but still has a great structure and distinct minerality. This wine has a great PQR. It even improved with time. (2815 views)

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

Hermitage

Guide to Hermitage wine Guide to Cote Rotie - Read about the Northern Rhone Valley

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
