Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 10 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by rocknroller on 8/6/2018 & rated 93 points: White Burgs & Jack White (Oceanaire, Mpls, MN): Pale gold color. Drank 1+ glass over 45 minutes. Another year under its belt and that much better. This was just crystalline in its stony minerality, showing lovely purity and finesse, lemon, white peach, and brine. This has energy and a crisp acid that gives it excellent lift. A great bottle to finish with. (1564 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 6/6/2017 & rated 91 points: Some Nice Burgs at The Kenwood (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. This was cold on serving and needed some time to come to temp, but when it did, it was showing nicely. There's a wonderful lime/green fruit aspect to this wine on both the nose and palate where the tartness of the green fruit and dry extract really shine. Osk, tart green fruit, oak, white fruit, lemon, mineral, lime dry extract. 91+(+)pts. (1882 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 6/6/2017 & rated 93 points: I really liked this white Burg tonight too. Showed up a smidge cold but its always difficult to carry whites for 30 minutes to a venue and get the temp perfect. I'd rather have it start out chilly than warm. Classic minerality with bright energetic acidity but still a showing some richness and lushness of a range of citrusy fruit. We were fortunate to drink 3 stellar white Burgs tonight. (1847 views)
Tasted by Richard P Howden on 1/20/2017 & rated 92 points: Remarkably tasty - Apple, vanilla, white fruit in the nose. A potent strong and long palate, dry and minerally. Wonderful expression of Puligny. (1524 views)
Tasted by ewineguy on 12/19/2015 & rated 91 points: Devin and I held an impromptu Christmas Veranda Time and were pleasantly surprised to have 35 people show up despite some surprise rain and week before the Big Day. We opened a total of six wines, three white, three red, trying to cover all the bases not knowing what pot luck side dishes would arrive. The main staple was a tomato based chicken orzo soup that was a hit.

This white burg continues to kick butt every time we try it. I wrote a great review of this back in June so for my Cellar Tracker friends I’ll try not to be too repetitive. Pale straw yellow and lots of flowers on the nose. (lavender maybe) It is a big giant beautifully built chardonnay, but as I mentioned it was not heavy like some. It was fruitier than buttery. You got minerals and fruits and just the right amount of acidity to keep you paying attention. I am down to just a couple of these now, but look forward to buying more at auction. (1957 views)
Tasted by ewineguy on 6/30/2015 & rated 91 points: We had a casual evening with BBQ Pork Sliders and Salad. I enjoyed a Belvanie Caribbean Cask, but Devin chose a white. I had this as part of a 2014 stash I bought. I did not give it a chance to breath as I wanted to get to my scotch. This was great. Pale straw colored and a nice mild fruit and floral nose. It was very subtle and not tropical, but more like orchard florals. The fruit continued on the tongue and then you got the mineral tingle so prevalent in many of the big burgs. This was not creamy at all, in fact it resembled more of a Sauvignon Blanc then a legacy Chardonnay. Not what you would typically have with pulled pork sliders, but what a great glass of wine. I think I have a couple more and glad i do. (1534 views)
Tasted by Milos on 4/25/2015 & rated 91 points: Already drinking well but will get better. Forward nose of white flowers, lemon, pear and mineral notes. (1076 views)
Tasted by Shaddo on 8/29/2014: Took two hours to open. But jeez did it open. (1320 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
