Tasted by Vas19 on 7/9/2023: This bottle was tired and seeming slightly over the hill. Hopefully just a one off, will have to try another bottle soon to see. (536 views)
Tasted by Andrey DDT on 7/26/2020 & rated 82 points: Too high acidity. (1676 views)
Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 8/21/2019 & rated 91 points: crazy! It’s like papaya. Peach. Good acid. Slightly reductive. Long finish. (2107 views)
Tasted by french16 on 6/2/2019: Beautiful chardonnay with a Burgundian touch but with more salinity. (1969 views)
Tasted by Dutchderk on 4/18/2019 & rated 93 points: Soft mellow tropical fruit aromas, medium to low acidity, fully flavoured, very ripe impression with excellent length. (1888 views)
Tasted by Dutchderk on 2/8/2019 flawed bottle: (Prem)oxidised. Always kept in cellar at 14 degrees Celsius (1170 views)
Tasted by Dutchderk on 2/8/2019 & rated 91 points: Second bottle after oxidised one. Needs 30 minutes to open up. Nice tropical fruits full bodied and a long long finish. Excellent wine. Drink now. No improvement to be expected. (1791 views)
Tasted by theronware on 10/15/2018 & rated 95 points: So classy and delicious. A little reticent upon opening but continued to develop over an hour or so. Nuts and gasoline and mild tropical elements on the nose gives way to lime and apples and nuts on the palate. Long, incisive finish. At first it felt a bit light on the palate but it gained concentration with air. It is certainly oxidative and reminded me of a Tondonia gran reserva. I love how the rich nose works in counterpoint with the precise, clean palate. I paired this with a Thai coconut fish dish seasoned with lime leaves, and it was a terrific match. (1304 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 9/9/2017 & rated 93 points: Surprisingly developed already, with late-harvest stone-fruit, quince and honey aromas. Full-bodied taste - verging on the fat - with rich, intense flavours, embedded high/ripe acidity and a long mineral finish. It is striking how it has changed over the last four years, and alas not only for the better. Tonight's impressions don't really speak the crystal-clear Jura dialect of four years ago, but (served blind) makes most people around the table think of a mature Chenin Blanc from Richard Leroy. Luckily there's no brown-apple oxidation, yet. A forward bottle or time to drink up? (2868 views)
(2786 views)
Tasted by salil on 5/16/2016 & rated 80 points: Leo's Blind Tasting Group - May '16 edition (Tessa, NYC): I did not enjoy this at all and was shocked to see it revealed as Ganevat, whose wines I've usually found much more precise and less oxidative. This is really big and heavy on the oxidation, showing lots of waxy, butterscotch, and nutty flavours around the ripe apricot and citrus fruit at its core. The alcohol peeks out a bit on the finish, but the oxidation here is overwhelming and makes it hard to drink more than a few sips. (3853 views)
Tasted by Honey Badger on 12/19/2015 & rated 91 points: Pretty weird wine really, I'd decant if I had more, the oxygen cycle on opening follows the opposite short term evolution of many wines with fat tropical banana and papaya notes so atypical of Jura it's bizarre and reminiscent of Santa Barbara, 2 hours in, tropical is gone: high acid, mineral, still not so Jura in style but Chablis esque and saline. Lots of fun but the tail end is more pleasurable than the front for my taste. Ganevat is so weird, some styles are so traditional, others show modern but if there is truth in the biography of the producer he is non interventionist and this wine is ungrafted from nearly 100 year old vines and no sulfur so, I suppose that's just what the Chardonnay tastes like from the vineyard. I have no idea how it would age but the underlying material is fairly rigid, it's worth a try to lay it down, it could be chassagne meets aubert (if you like that kind of thing) or just taste like a fat ass valmur in the end. (3178 views)
Tasted by NNV on 7/25/2015 & rated 92 points: 92, Potential 94. Typical Ganevat, amazing mouthfeel and fabulous viscosity. Nice extraction but could mellow out/fatten up a bit with more time in bottle. More tension than the Chalasses, but a beautiful wine. Wait 3-5 years. Off the charts QPR. (3400 views)
Tasted by Villon on 5/15/2015 & rated 91 points: Très bien, alliant richesse, opulence et minéralité, aucun bois n'es perceptible, une légère touche d'oxydation. (2798 views)
Assez long et persistant.
Très beau vin de ce producteur hipster! (2407 views)
(2027 views)
Tasted by decaturwinedude on 7/19/2014 & rated 91 points: Initial sweet attack up front. Honey, lemon curd. Oxidative note that fattens the palate. Salinity. Sharp acidity that seems more obvious this time. Edgy, with great energy and lift. Not for everyone, but I like it. (2295 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 5/31/2014 flawed bottle: BYO (Casa FV): Corked. (3392 views)
Tasted by coremill on 3/14/2014 & rated 85 points: I really don't get these Ganevat wines. Like my last bottle, this has an off-putting estery overripe aspect, like bruised apples or bananas, and it's sharp and short in the mouth. It's a little better on day two, where it's clean and lemony, but it's still not very interesting. The only bottle of Ganevat I've really liked I had in Paris, and I wonder if maybe they don't travel that well to this side of the Atlantic. (2355 views)
Tasted by tdelorme on 3/10/2014: I think Ganvevat's Savagnin is usually stronger than his Chardonnay. I think I have tasted most of his Chards over the past few vintages and I couldn't think of another bottle of Ganevat Chard that showed better than this bottle. I thought it was not only the best Chard I have had from Ganevat, but the best Chard I have had from the Jura. (2283 views)
Tasted by tooch on 3/6/2014 & rated 91 points: Dinner at Browntrout (Browntrout - Chicago, IL): Double-decanted 2 hours prior to dinner (and could have used more!). Incredibly vibrant wine with very zippy citrus notes and acidity coupled with a surprisingly rich butterscotch component. The combination of these rich and energetic flavors was wonderfully complex and layered. (2895 views)
Tasted by fdusonchet on 1/18/2014 & rated 98 points: Soyeux dynamique et gourmand (2161 views)
Tasted by decaturwinedude on 12/7/2013 & rated 92 points: Rich and oily. Lemon curd, honey, and citrus that is buffered by mouth-puckering acidity that lingers on the finish. There is a great edginess to this wine that invigorates your palate. An interesting balance of rich young fruit, acid, and minerality. Just great. (2204 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 8/31/2013 & rated 92 points: Rich and opulent. Oily and mouthcoating. Delicious Chardonnay. (2200 views)

Jura

A petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). While Chardonnay features widely, the true specialty of the region is the Vin Jaune (“yellow wine”) made from the white Savagnin grape. Cloudy, difficult Vin Jaune is made only in the best vintages, and must be aged for at least six years before being released. As it ages under a layer of yeast, known locally as “voile,” the wine slowly oxidizes, leading to complex aromas and flavors that range from walnut skin to sultana to spices and truffles. Famously long lived it is always sold in dumpy 62 cl bottle - the wine lost in production having been taken by les anges.
