Based on my previous positive impression I think this bottle was spoiled. (3883 views) | | Tasted by soyhead on 10/10/2013 & rated 83 points: Slightly overripe, lacks definition. A sloppy wine, but fine for pizza. Barbera can be so much better than this (4421 views) | | Tasted by OlegE on 7/27/2013 & rated 88 points: I think that in blind testing I would classify it as typical Barbera wine (in spite of my very limited experience). It is light bodied (at least lighter than medium), with pronounced fruity-floral aroma, with complexity which does not stress you a bit, fresh and easy. Clarity in taste tones, almost crispy. It is not simplistic table wine, it certainly can be enjoyed, but it does not pretend to be sophisticated treasure wine. I drunk more than I expected without noticing it. Pleasant. (4341 views) | | Tasted by Jdubb on 6/29/2013 & rated 89 points: Delicate, subtle yet smooth. It needs time in general and once consumed to open up but wonderful for the price point. (4373 views) | | Tasted by ziavino on 6/15/2013 & rated 86 points: Candied fruit nose shifts to a palate of ripe black cherry with an earthy beam. Simple. Decent. (1414 views) | | Tasted by SCMeyer on 6/2/2013 & rated 90 points: This exemplifies what I like in a Barbera. A pleasant nose of bright cherries and some earth. Light bodied, with a beautiful color, and fantastic tart bright cherries. Nice acidity and a nice bitter dusty chocolate note on the finish. A refreshing and fun wine. (1070 views) |
| Icardi Producer websiteBarbera Varietal character (Appellation America) Varietal character (Wikipedia German) Varietal character (Wikipedia English) Barbera is a red wine variety, originally from Italy, which is best known as the second-most important Piedmontese variety after Nebbiolo. The wines made of this grape are mainly the everyday drinking wines of the region. The main appellations producing Barbera are Asti and Alba.
Barbera - The most widely grown red wine grape of Piedmont and Southern Lombardy, most famously around the towns of Asti and Alba, and Pavia. The wines of Barbera were once simply "what you drank while waiting for the Barolo to be ready." With a new generation of wine makers, this is no longer the case. The wines are now meticulously vinified, aged Barbera gets the name "Barbera Superiore" (Superior Barbera), sometimes aged in French barrique becoming "Barbera Barricato", and intended for the international market. The wine has bright cherry fruit, a very dark color, and a food-friendly acidity.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorPiedmont Vignaioli Piemontesi (Italian only) On weinlagen-infoAsti Consorzio per la Tutela dell'Asti |
