Tasted by wtianseter on 2/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Green apples and a touch of pineapple. Nice tart sweetness. This wine will last for 20 more years. What a German Riesling should be, not the bone dry all acid style that wastes the lovely fruitiness of the grape. (539 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 9/23/2019 & rated 91 points: Its drinking nicely; refer to my 12/5/2016 TN (555 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 12/5/2016 & rated 90 points: A bit dry for a typical Spat but only about like a Kab. It has good body and tastes op apple and tropical fruit. It drinks nicely on the front , in the middle and at the finish. Nice residual acid. (1133 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 12/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Notes consistent with prior two bottles. Green apple, lemon and pear are the primary mid-body notes with enough acidity to provide structure and balance, but not as much as some of the top 2012 rieslings. The wine shows well now (served between 48-51F) and has the structure to last several more years while improving a moderate amount. But it's by no means inaccessible today. (1368 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 10/15/2015 & rated 91 points: Another very nice showing for this wine. Perhaps not as complex or as strong in acidity as some other 2012 rielsings, but still quite well made. Green apple upfront along with lemon and tart pear. No tropical fruit notes here. Generally slightly less apparent sweetness than the prior bottle. Neither was "sweet", but this bottle seemed to show better overall balance. Based on the fruit and acidity, should continue to age well. (1425 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 9/7/2015 & rated 91 points: Green apple and apricot upfront, backed with very nice notes of lemon on the mineral driven finish. Strengths of this wine are its balance and its acidity, which while it wasn't on the level of a Carl Loewen or Karthäuserhof, was considerably better than many. It has richness and power without coming off as simply "sweet". Should age quite well. (1261 views)
Tasted by yofog on 6/27/2015: Powerful and vivid. The balance here is just great and there's a real solidity and nobility to it. (1460 views)
Tasted by farinas on 3/20/2015 & rated 90 points: Good dose of honey with some hints of petrol. Rheingaus always appear more subtle and hollowed than Mosels in my opinion. Very enjoyable. (1026 views)
Tasted by MarkinBaltimore on 8/24/2014: Bouquet of apple, slate, apricot, and lemon rind. Intense, honeyed flavors with great density and length. This wine is sweet but it has impressive depth and persistence. My guess is that it will drink more or less like this for 30 years at the least. (900 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 3/25/2014: Nose: flint, cut grass, apple blossom. Palate: kumquats and pears with accents of honey and minerals. Off dry and slightly spicy. (943 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 3/2/2014 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured (despite appearances, not a screwcap). Pleasant apple blossom aroma. Soft flavors of pear and apricot pit. Tart caramel honey finish.

On first opening this is quite flabby, it does firm up some over time but still not as firm a foundation as I would like. Other than that, this is well structured, interesting, and mildly complex. Very good, not great, quite possibly I'm drinking it too young.. (958 views)
Tasted by liteagilis on 1/5/2014: Not nearly as dense as the 09 or 10 (didn't have the 11). This is definitely true to the house-style. Low in alcohol (7.5), rich and full of RS. Tastes a bit like you're drinking straight apricot nectar. Has excellent acidity for sure and the finish is quite clean. A little one-dimensional against other bottles at this pricepoint and lacks the acidity, energy and delicacy that I have thus far found in many 12's. Would I drink it again, absolutely.. Pay my own money? Likely not. (902 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/24/2013 & rated 93 points: Light green-tinged yellow color; mineral, tart pear, floral nose; very tasty, mineral, tart pear, floral palate; long finish (303 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Rheingau

VDP Rheingau (Official site) | The Rheingau (Wines of Germany) | Wikipedia about The Rheingau
On weinlagen.info

The small but fine wine-growing area Rheingau offers one for the culture of the vine ideal microclimate and best soil conditions. The Rhine runs uninterruptedly almost one thousand kilometres from Basel up to its muzzle into the North Sea, in a northerly direction. With a short exception - the Rheingau. The Rheingau mountains force the river to a change in direction here. The vineyards falling in this region to the south stretch really to the sun. The king of the white wines, the Riesling, finds ideal local conditions for the unfolding of his fine fruity and elegant type of vine character on the multilayered weathering grounds with loess, loam and sand additions.
