| Community Tasting Notes | | Tasted by jlm on 10/17/2015: This is now showing some maturing fruit, with red currant aromatics to complement its peach notes. The palate is also beginning to shade into a more savory profile. Sadly, it's my last bottle, but this continues to improve, and hopefully bodes well for the subsequent vintages I'm still holding. (911 views) | | Tasted by cartime on 6/10/2012: Medium golden color. Initially this had a funky note on the nose that blew off with about a half hour of air. Petrol, peaches, apple, with some oxidative notes. Moderately sweet, with okay acidity. (1776 views) | | Tasted by jlm on 8/23/2011: Fantastic bottle. All white peaches and cherries. This continues to impress and improve, the flavors become more and more delineated on the palate and finish. (1913 views) | | Tasted by jlm on 12/5/2010: This is beginning to open up nicely with white peach and herbs on the nose. The palate leans towards the lighter end of the spectrum, less weighty than many a Kabinett from bigger vintages. The sweetness is moderate and is complemented by a racy streak of acidity that recalls just underripe raspberries. Impressively taught on the back end, this is a lovely Spätlese that is entering its adolescence now. (1972 views) | | Tasted by jlm on 7/11/2008: This is still in its in-between stage. Clearly plenty of material on the palate and a firm acidity gives it great structure and staying power, but it is simply not showing much interest in the aromas and flavors at this point. Some peach and lime, but this needs some more rest to allow it to begin to develop some more mature notes and to bring all its parts into harmony. (2218 views) | | Tasted by jlm on 11/18/2006: White flowers and minerals on the nose with just a hint of honey that makes me wonder if this didn't see a tiny bit of botrytis inclusion. The palate is well integrated and shows true Spätlese levels of extract, only moderate sweetness, and flavors of lime and a little mineral firmness. The finish is medium length, but not wondrously complex. Nice wine but not thrilling like they're more recent vintages. Let's see what happens with some time. (1817 views) |

Tim Fröhlich was deservedly named “Winemaker of the Year 2010” by Gault Millau, as he is considered to be the most spectacular riser in German wine in recent years. “And not just with the outstanding large wines, the smaller wines are also impressive,” said the Gault Millau critics.Riesling Varietal character (Appellation America) | A short history of Riesling (Uncork) | Riesling (wikipedia)Spätlese Wikipedia article on Spätlese.Bockenauer Felseneck On weinlagen.infoGermany Wines of Germany | The Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) | How to read a German wine label | Geographical Information Down to Single Vineyards
#2014 Vintage Notes: 2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise 2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator "My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)NaheAn der Nahe erwarten den Besucher sanftes Grün, romantische Flusstäler und dramatische Felsformationen. Interactive map on weinlagen.info |
