Tasted by up4wine on 8/12/2023 & rated 89 points: Upon opening this one was a little rough and not well integrated. After letting it sit on the counter for a few days ( pumped out), it became much more even and enjoyable. Guess it needs more years in the bottle. (921 views)
Tasted by Sonoffalstaff on 5/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Cracking cndp. Granache is to the fore. But it’s a lot more complex than that😋 (1080 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 8/9/2022 & rated 92 points: Took about 30 min to fully open. Lovely bottle of wine with classic CdP profile. I've had in the cellar for seven years. (1290 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 2/20/2022 & rated 92 points: Beautiful bouquet with ripe berry fruits and good garrigue. On the palate dark berries as well. Beautifully mild acidity and tannin. Still a lovely and soft bite. 91 – 92 (1694 views)
 Tasted by Elvis1969 on 7/31/2021 & rated 89 points: Magnum. (2065 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 6/22/2021 & rated 93 points: Nice bottle -- tart nose and balanced attack on the palate. Long 30-40 second finish. Worth seeking out. (1673 views)
Tasted by Pour Boy on 6/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Nose of red fruit, licorice. First glass shows tannins. By the last glass in the bottle, the wine is starting to soften. Needs a little more time on its side, in my opinion. (1938 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 4/11/2019 & rated 91 points: Last minute late night at Chateau Davyd. Tasted blind.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of Ribena berries, black cherries, brambly spice, meat. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15%), medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberries, dark red cherries, black cherries, sweet spices, kirsch, black and white pepper. Long finish.
Very good quality. Guessed as a 2012 Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Spot on correct. Seems to be traditional style, not a lot of modern oak here. Drink now and enjoy over the next 3-4 years as it develops.
65% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 1% other varieties. (2032 views)
Tasted by NoseKnows on 12/7/2018 & rated 94 points: A birthday gift from good friends a couple of years ago. Mind blown. Delightful. Caramel and strawberry nose, soft and supple in the mouth, lingering finish leaving you wanting more. I want more. I wish they were better friends, they would have bought me a case. (1717 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 11/20/2018 & rated 92 points: Tasted next to a 2017 barrel sample. Nicely evolved, open nose, cherry liqueur, fruit cake, spices. On the palate quite fresh with good weight and concentration of fruit. Nice tannic structure, good length, well balanced. Drink or keep. 91-93 (1914 views)
Tasted by Claret & CdP Gang on 10/21/2018: Dark ruby red, classic cdp aromas of ripe plums, big nose with the 15% alc coming through, full bodied, big tannins, sweet finish, best drunk bit cold & with food
89 (1315 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 6/9/2018 & rated 92 points: Clear, deep ruby color. Aromatics of lavender, rosemary, black currant, blackberry, iron, damp earth. High-toned black fruits and rich secondary depth on the palate - savory spices, crushed stone, dried flowers. Thick and densely structured, with just enough finesse to bring it full circle. Medium acid, fine full dusty tannins, finishing full with hints of earth, cocoa dust and cedar. Excellent, drinking well with a decant. (1269 views)
Tasted by vide on 4/28/2018 & rated 90 points: A very solid effort. High in alcohol, dense in its structure, with cassis, liquorice and dark fruits on the palate. Very satisfying. A wine, though, without charm or complexity, but at a price level where you cannot expect a Beaucastel. (1562 views)
Tasted by Superoreo on 3/24/2018 & rated 93 points: Outstanding for the price. Drinking very nicely. (1045 views)
Tasted by Ebrim on 1/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Wine is clear, medium intense ruby color, thin pale rim. Developing

Nose is clean, aromas of blackcurrant, kirch, cinnamon stick, anis, tobacco, herbs like thyme. Developing

Palate is dry, medium acidity and tannins, alcohol is medium+, body and flavour intensity with aromas of mix of dark and red fruits, blackberry and kirch, tobacco, cinnamon and anis, long finish

Very well balanced with solid concentration and long finish. Quite complex and intens. Needs more time, drink 2020 - 2025. Very good quality 91p (1523 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 6/5/2017 & rated 92 points: No formal notes taken. See my note of April 7th. Drank over two days. A beautiful and harmonious wine which is a great pleasure already. (2131 views)
Tasted by I've Got Bottle (JP Abela) on 4/8/2017 & rated 93 points: Printemps Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017; 4/7/2017-4/9/2017 (Châteauneuf-du-Pape): Couleur : belle couleur grenat avec une certaine densité.

Note : 16,75/20 i.e. 93/100 (1478 views)

Tasted by Zweder on 4/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Winery Visit; Domaine la Barroche Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France.: The bouquet is a bit locked at the moment. but it shows dark and red berry fruits. On the palate beautifully ripe dark and red berries, plums, laurel, herbs and spices, beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness, soft and round tannin with a pleasant bite and a good concentration. Beautiful wine already and a future of at least 5+ years. (2146 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 1/18/2017 & rated 90 points: Flickinger's tasting at the Casino (The Casino, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose shows off a riper intensity, but it isn't overdone with licorice, mesquite, black cherries, black raspberries, and some liqueur tones.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is in more of a supporting role and there is good density to the feel with licorice, black cherries, mesquite, black raspberries, and garrigue notes.

Overall: This is a very good Chateauneuf Du Pape. It shows off a riper and more intense side, but it isn't overdone. There is balance and a black fruited profile with this feeling like it is open to drink now and for the better part of the next deacade. (1689 views)
Tasted by The Captain 11 on 10/29/2016 & rated 93 points: Purple ink, fig, leather, pepper, anise...I love this wine and it's only going to get better (2142 views)
Tasted by eluebchow on 10/1/2016 & rated 88 points: Dense and muscular, with some candied red fruits, baking spices and herbs on the concentrated palate; Needs some more time to integrate, and came off a touch hot on the finish (1938 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 9/14/2016 & rated 92 points: Showing some lightening in the color, the wine offers a classic garrigue, jammy kirsch and smoke filled nose. Supple, rich, elegant and forward, the finish delivers loads of juicy, sweet cherries and Asian spice characteristics. (2846 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 4/17/2016: Chateauneuf-Du-Pape domaine visits: Tasted at the domaine. Aromas of fig paste, allspice berry, rose hips, raspberry, tea and lavender- complex. Expressive on the palate, with red berry, black tea and rich layers of spice and flowers. Dense in the mid-palate, with thick, silky tannins and a big finish. Excellent. (3241 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/20/2016: Light red. Floral. Sweet red raspberry, very Grenache. Elegant weight and not overwrought. Very nice for short term drinking. (2005 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
