| Community Tasting Notes (average 83.6 pts. and median of 84 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by SpoochMan on 10/22/2020 & rated 87 points: This chianti was very light weight, which I presume is why some tasters were quite negative. And 2014 was not a good vintage in chianti. But it is varietally correct, and has decent balance. Drank this with lighter fare (cod fish and some pesto pasta) and it was a solid accompaniment to the food. No not too bad. (801 views) | | Tasted by Chez Shea cellar on 10/19/2017 & rated 90 points: Much better than the 83.3 rating to date (2263 views) | | Tasted by AnytimeWineTime on 3/31/2017 & rated 86 points: S: bubble gum, dried fruit, and old cedar T: sour cherry and pomegranate up front, toasty and drying on the mid, puckering tannis on the finish A bit one dimensional but not bad. (2446 views) | | Tasted by eboracum on 12/17/2016 & rated 84 points: It's difficult to point at anything obviously wrong with this wine. It is well balanced with adequate red fruit, adequate acidity, agreeable texture and some structure but it is bland and dull and, at c.€13, over-priced. (2651 views) | | Tasted by MichelNL on 11/21/2016 & rated 85 points: The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis) and forest floor. The body is light/medium. The wine has bright texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (2658 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 8/17/2016: GTW Tuscan Reds Star Performers Tasting (8 Danks street, Sydney): muted cream and red cherry on the nose…slight red cherry on the palate, still quite fresh. Lost in this line up as it's quite muted but I think this might be rather pleasant with a big bowl of pasta in tomato sauce…inoffensive (2627 views) | | Tasted by knothoef on 7/27/2016 & rated 84 points: Abit alcoholic (1129 views) | | Tasted by JM74 on 5/26/2016 & rated 80 points: Lekker simpele wijn (981 views) | | Tasted by RussK on 3/24/2016 & rated 90 points: Russk 90- Not bad. Nice food wine. Drank with fam in Rist Chianti near the Trevi Fountain. (880 views) | | Tasted by GregClarke1968 on 10/10/2015 & rated 80 points: Enjoyed but a bit graph in flavour. Drank with a lasanga. (960 views) |

2014 Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Chianti CastiglioniDescription Thanks to its outstanding local climate, Chianti Castiglioni mirrors perfectly the qualities of its local growing area. Smooth-textured and eminently fruity, it displays a fine clean-edged structure. Vintage Report Despite an atypically very rainy summer, thanks to the dedication and knowledge of our agronomists, the grapes at harvest were healthy, mature and full of aromas and anthocyanins. The two defining periods were the first phase of optimal fruit set and a long autumn with sunny, warm days and cool nights that enriched the aromas of this vintage. Terroir and environmental conditions Estate and vineyard location: The Chianti area Technical Information Variety Sangiovese, Merlot Alcohol by volume 13% Length of maceration on the skins 11 days Malolactic fermentation Immediately following alcoholic fermentation Maturation method Stainless steel Length of maturation 6 months with microxygenation
Sangiovese BlendSangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytChianti Consorzio Vino Chianti | Chianti (wikipedia)Chianti Chianti DOCG (italianmade.com) |
