Tasted by Outplaying on 5/8/2020: A little lighter bodied than I remember. Still a very nice wine with light smokey, petrol accents. Bright, lively and easy to drink. Ann liked it, too. (1162 views)
Tasted by olalar on 4/5/2019 & rated 90 points: Superb harmony between fruit and minerality. Drinks great now. (1746 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 3/13/2019 & rated 91 points: [07 15] Tasted after 2014 Nahe Riesling trocken. Reduction on the nose. Similarly precise and almost lean, but with more depth and complexity. Smoky minerality, quite intriguing on the nose. 90-92 (1923 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 7/6/2018: Very crisp, green apple, pear lovely tart and mineral, and completely dry. (2318 views)
 Tasted by ant-1 on 2/5/2018: Impeccable ! (2088 views)
Tasted by fc1910 on 7/8/2017 & rated 90 points: Opened this bottle to get an impression of the actual condition of this wine, this bottle is from younger grapes of the vulcanic vineyards from S-F, on the nose everything is about minerality, smoky, flintstone, even gun powder, just no fruit, on the palate this is very fresh and lightbodied, some lemon zest, again a very peppery and saline showing, ending sharp and with a still demanding precise acidity, give this wine a minimum of one hour decant, for ultra dry Riesling addicts to enjoy now and over the next 5+ years, *(**-+ -*?), 89- 91+ potential (2176 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 5/14/2017: nose - riesling petrol nose, tangerine
mouth - tangerine, lovely acid driven dry and concentrated , great minerality, and overall very pure and balanced. Nice (1866 views)
Tasted by m_arcon on 5/13/2017 & rated 90 points: The Vulkangestein comes from the Stromberg & Felsenberg vineyard (50/50). Not super fruit driven, more on the stony side. White peach, citrus, citrus zest and wet stone on the nose. Well balanced palate, lean, precise and a good acidic grip on the back end. Very good PQR. (1913 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 4/18/2017: N - tangerine, camomile
M - very fresh, lively, tangerine, lemon-line, great minerality, nice acidity. Refreshing & lively. (1520 views)
Tasted by MarcRies on 2/8/2017 & rated 88 points: Heel licht strogeel. Zilveren fonkeling.
Ingetogen neus van citrus en wat zwavel. Groene appel en peer, perzik. Zuiver.
(1540 views)
Tasted by Sourdough on 1/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Lovely riesling. The most recent note is spot on. One ofthe better Rieslings I have had. Need to buy this sgsin! (865 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/2/2016 & rated 91 points: The '14 Schafer Vulkangestein is showing beautifully tonight. The last time I pulled a cork it was still quite primary, but on this occasion I was treated to an array green melon, lemon zest, yellow florals, wet stone and minerals. On the palate, I found a vibrant thrust of mineral-tinged acid, that opened up the senses to flavors of green apple, saline-lemon, and smoke which followed. It seemed to buzz on the palate, making for a lively and thirst quenching experience, and finished fresh with long-lasting minerality. (1530 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 3/3/2016 & rated 89 points: Crisp and fruity - leamon, pineapple, minerals. Short finish. 88-89p. Today. (1267 views)
Tasted by ant-1 on 10/22/2015: Très beau riesling, j'adore. (1284 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/25/2015 & rated 92 points: Smoky, savory with intense saline minerality and ripe stone fruit. Acidity provides a massive, mouthwatering burst of fruit, rocks and smoke on the palate. This is simply stunning juice and perfect on this 92-degree day. (1772 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 6/21/2015 & rated 93 points: The nose was savory and mineral-driven with smoke, crushed stone and cheese rind. On the palate, it was focused and intense, showing lemon-tinged apple and minerals with masses of inner floral tones. Long and saturating on the finish with tingling acidity, which seemed to touch upon all the senses. (1134 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 6/10/2015 & rated 91 points: Sulphur on the nose, flint stone - great depth and interest. Darker fruit notes than Nahe Riesling. Layered and complex on the palate, more serious, very mineral and fresh, long. 90-91+ (1143 views)

Tim Fröhlich was deservedly named “Winemaker of the Year 2010” by Gault Millau, as he is considered to be the most spectacular riser in German wine in recent years. “And not just with the outstanding large wines, the smaller wines are also impressive,” said the Gault Millau critics.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Nahe
