Tasted by aquacongas on 5/5/2024 & rated 93 points: Not blind
A bit declining. Nicely aged champagne. 93 (151 views)
Tasted by Bernard B on 5/25/2023: I bought two bottles -- one for New Year's 2000 and one for the millenial New Year. (It was highly touted c1999). It was quite nice, with biscuity character. Not fabulous. (Broadbent low to mid 4 stars, in my view). I have had only a couple of super Champagnes and I found them marginally or not better than a decent Brut. (630 views)
Tasted by Motz on 11/14/2021 & rated 97 points: Off-the-chain!!! Riveting complexity. Layered, liquid magic! Tasted before all the reds, and afterwards...when it showed even better. Easily a top ten Champagne of my lifetime, probably in the top five. Absolutely stunning that a 36-year-old Champagne offered such vivacity. In due deference to the 2010 Domaine de Chevalier, my WOTN of the formal tasting, this was the WOTN of the afternoon and evening. Many thanks to CF for sharing this gem! (2465 views)
Tasted by Grinner on 11/6/2021 & rated 95 points: The Nearly Annual Lyon 10 Year Retro Tasting (Lyon's Den): This was a glorious wine and so different from the Carneros sparkler (duh...).
Imagine candied ginger on the thinnest slices of lemon and pear, placed on buttered toast with honey! Fine mousse and great length. Why wait? (1542 views)
Tasted by DAN BAILEY on 9/8/2021: So good. Great depth and balance. Perfect line from the 95 blanc des millenaires. Clearly wotn for me. (880 views)
Tasted by DoubleD1969 on 6/25/2021: Recent purchase from auction. First CC. Experience is similar to the previous notes - pale gold color, fine bead of bubbles, pretty nose of citrus, ginger, and honey that carries very easily to the palate. Round but fresh and complex. Enjoyable bottle. Year 2000 on the foil. Prefer this over the 2002 and 2004 Dom P2. (1495 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 3/15/2019 & rated 93 points: Mid gold. Moderate sized bubbles. Rich, with butter a touch of toast and some ginger on the nose. Vinous, a gentle mouse, still vital. Quite a meaty, full bodied wine. Rich and long. Certainly not going to improve, but holding well. One of 42-odd thousand bottles released in CH’s Oenoteque series, for the millennium. **** (2693 views)
Tasted by dream on 12/4/2018 & rated 95 points: Simply beautiful aged Champagne. Softened now but still with some vigor and very well balanced with nutty flavors along with hints of caramel and spice. Really complex on the finish which shows notes of smoky minerals and sweet honey. Not from a recent release and it shows in the age but what a sexy death waltz this is dancing. (2500 views)
Tasted by Elvis1969 on 10/17/2017 & rated 96 points: Fick den blint igen. Ännu bättre den här gången. (3944 views)
Tasted by Elvis1969 on 10/14/2017 & rated 94 points: Underbar knäckig, bra syra. (3794 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 7/5/2017 & rated 92 points: SLDS July 2017 (Cirrus): Honey, smoky, earth, ginger and roses on the nose. The palate has rounded out, with mild acidity but really good depth and tasty honeyed fruit. Really composed and delicious drinking now. (3649 views)
Tasted by esh44 on 3/20/2017: 2010 disgorgement. This bottle was vibrant and fresh, with lots of citrus notes. Plenty of life left here. Love these older Champagne Charlies. (3208 views)
Tasted by esh44 on 2/23/2017: 2000 disgorgement. Terrific. Great balance between vibrant/lively and maturing/savory notes. That extra dimension on the palate. Lots of life left here. Love these Cuvee Charlies. (3045 views)
Tasted by sunnylea57 on 2/17/2017 & rated 98 points: Arguably the best Champagne I've had. Words fail me. (1890 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 2/10/2017 & rated 93 points: Disgorged in 2010, this is bright, fresh and vibrant. early in its life (1862 views)
Tasted by JMFWC on 1/9/2017 & rated 91 points: Aging very pretty with cognac notes and subdued fruit flavor. Drinking nicely now. (1810 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 4/12/2016 & rated 93 points: 2016 Harwood-fest (Harwood Arms, London): Full straw. Deep and rich nose, properly toasty with a touch of brown butter. A little less rich and with a bit more acidity than some previous bottles. Hugely drinkable with lots to contemplate, esp on the nose. **** (2527 views)
Tasted by LWI on 12/6/2015 & rated 94 points: Quite developed (2448 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 6/26/2015: Gobs of honeyed fruit on the finish, not many bubbles, showing its age but still gorgeous. (2865 views)
Tasted by LWI on 4/19/2015 & rated 95 points: Some Champagnes: Served as a started, blind to the others. Peak maturity, and thus a bit more advanced than the best bottles I have had – admittedly some years back. Honey and nuts were wonderfully kept in balance with a very fine acidity. Very long, and gained complexity with air. Intriguing finish. (3873 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 12/16/2014 & rated 94 points: Full straw. Reasonable stream of fine to medium bubbles. Very rich on the nose, a touch of oxidative ness, but nose dominated by richness with warm butter, hot toast and digestive biscuit notes. Full, rich, good fruit and nice definition on the attack. Similar through the mid palate and a positive medium to long finish. More complexity here than a previous bottle in 2011. 2000 Oenotheque, so presumably a 99 disgorgement. ****1/2 (3621 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 12/12/2014: Dry, preserved pear. (675 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 12/12/2014: Bone dry with notes of pear. No oxidation, this '85 is quite well preserved and in no danger of going downhill. Recommended. (2660 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 12/8/2014 & rated 95 points: Yellow color with good effervescence. Well balanced with a bouquet and flavor of toast and yeast, and with a hint of petrol. Nice depth and long finish. Lovely wine. (2304 views)
Tasted by alittle on 10/18/2013 & rated 92 points: Friday Night in Toronto (10tation Catering): Light gold in colour. Surprisingly appearing to be the least advanced Champagne served tonight. Initially a bit reticent, but as it warmed, the nose gave way to lemon zest, wet stones, spice, grated ginger, yeast, baked apple, a touch of orchard fruit, and after about 30 minutes, notes of freshly ground espresso emerged. On the palate, good concentration, but a touch leaner than the other two Champagnes served tonight. Finish is long and crisp, showing racy acidity, closing out with citrus, apple, mineral and a tinge of bitter walnut skin on the finish. This bottle still seemed to be on the upswing. (4031 views)

Charles Heidsieck

Producer website
From the very start, the wines of Charles Heidsieck managed to seduce the royal courts of Europe. Today, the House’s wines are awarded the highest accolades by professional juries across the world. The quantity of medals and trophies regularly earned by Charles Heidsieck is simply extraordinary. The winemaking team has been awarded the “Winemaker of the Year” trophy nine times by the UK International Wine Challenge. Régis Camus joined Charles Heidsieck in 1994 and has been the head winemaker of the House since 2002. This meticulous and passionate professional likes to keep an eye on everything: the state of the vineyards, the selection of the grapes, their pressing and their vinification, cru by cru, in individual vats. His mission is to perpetuate the Charles Heidsieck style, reflecting the richness of the Champagne region.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
