Seems at or maybe just past peak. The nose has cassis and leather. On the palate, this is smooth. Tannins are integrated. Enough fruit has outlasted the tannins. Cassis and cherries. Some depth. Nice finish. Not a wine I am familiar with, so I wonder what it was like young. (3513 views) | | Tasted by WineCenturyAZ on 1/30/2016 & rated 91 points: Purple in the glass, black fruits and notes of cacao on the nose, tannins were gripping at first and mellowed over an hour, elegant with black fruits, berry, plum, vegetal notes, leather, earth and wood. Classic example of a CA Cabernet Sauvignon. (2968 views) | | Tasted by ewasowicz on 6/19/2015 & rated 95 points: Nose: wow some caramel and blackberry jam, and some hay and barn yard. This had nothing when I opened it and it keeps opening up with more character. Now I don't want to drink it.
Taste: no tannins, blackberries, some tar, light caramel and pepper.
I'm glad I waited to open this one. (3345 views) | | Tasted by kietkopelli on 6/3/2014 & rated 92 points: Utterly fantastic fruit forward CA style Cab Sauv. At $45 it's a bit on the pricey side but there are plenty of more expensive wines that are not as good. (4655 views) | | Tasted by RickyP on 4/13/2014 & rated 92 points: One of the best last bottle purchases in recent memory. Perfectly integrated fruit and tannins and just a smooth drinking cab right out of the bottle that went perfectly with some steaks. Wish I would have bought more. (4756 views) | | Tasted by hr3 on 2/1/2014 & rated 92 points: loved this (2764 views) | | Tasted by mouton45 on 12/17/2013 & rated 90 points: Pop and poured with shepherd's pie. OK but better the second day after getting more air (3196 views) | | Tasted by sjdcellar on 9/6/2013 & rated 89 points: this is holding together well - but it's clear it is starting to show age. (3166 views) | | Tasted by TerriorTraveler on 5/30/2013 & rated 93 points: It's ready now...Very drinkable Napa Cab with enough fruit to please any CA cab lover. Tannins and acid are now well balanced. Just enough oak and earth on the nose with blackberries in the middle. Not a hugely complex wine, but nobody will complain with a glass in front of them. (2564 views) | | Tasted by FieldingYost on 5/27/2010 & rated 88 points: Cherry liqueur, black plum on the nose. This has a layered and complex fruit profile, red and black fruits, ripe but not overly so. This does not have the volume or finish of a classic cabernet, but it is accessible. Young, but drinks well now with time, although I could see this improving with time as the acidity settles out. (3503 views) | | Tasted by ed-d on 3/26/2010 & rated 87 points: Big, smoky black currant aromas with heavy toast from the oak. Lean attack of red currant flavors with massive acids. Needs to settle down. (3238 views) | | Tasted by will2wine on 3/22/2010 & rated 91 points: Savory and distinctive, with aromas of rosemary and truffles wafting around a core of ripe dark fruit and vanilla. The smell reminded me a bit of a good rice pilaf. (2864 views) | | Tasted by jeff nowak on 11/4/2009: very monolithic/tannic. nose more interesting than the palate which features very angular, harsh fruit. somewhat mettalic on the finish, mild heat. hey! other than that, i really liked it. (2673 views) | | Tasted by kstoddard on 11/4/2009 & rated 87 points: Vine Cliff Tasting (AZ Wine Company): Dark ruby color. Nice blackberry fruit on the nose. Tastes of blueberry, blackberry, caramel and charred oak. Earthy mid palate. Very rich and full bodied. On the edge of over extraction. Chewy tannins. Good freshness and acidity. Powerful one dimensional finish. Young. A wine for lovers of Coca-cola. (3260 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Vine Cliff Winery Producer websiteVine Cliff Winery Cabernet SauvignonWinemaker Notes: The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is our interpretation of a “classic” Napa cab. A combination of fruit from several of our estate vineyards. Cabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
