Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 149 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jc510 on 10/7/2019 & rated 94 points: Well stored, bought on the secondary market from Winebid 5 years ago. Cork soaked 1 CM
Very well balanced, mellow nose caramelized Lemon and flowers. Hint of butter and oak, Lemon cream. Finished lingered with a fresh after taste. It all came together nicely, sadly my last bottle.
Consumed with Wicked Shrimp recipe. (1163 views)
Tasted by BBinSC on 10/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Cellar kept from purchase upon release - this wine is outstanding; beautiful gold color, lovely nose with tropical notes, really, really round. It still has acid enough to keep the buttery notes from overwhelming, and the oak seems very well integrated. Probably at/near peak, but has life left if it's cellar kept. (1048 views)
Tasted by bravo.solares on 10/22/2017 & rated 90 points: Good, but still too oaky - even after all this time in the cellar. Oak - annoyingly - gets in the way of what is clearly good quality fruit. A tad short of acidity. Drink up (this from someone who likes older Chards and does not mind nuttiness, almonds, and a bit of waxiness and oxidation). (1755 views)
Tasted by dfaircloth on 5/9/2016 & rated 91 points: Unctuous, rich, decadent. Lemon curd, creme brûlée, and buttered popcorn in a bottle. (1170 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 8/30/2015 & rated 92 points: Consistent with previous tasting note. (3934 views)
Tasted by plitton on 1/11/2015 & rated 91 points: Nice oak and better. great quality again from DuMol (4022 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 11/27/2014 & rated 92 points: Pre Thanksgiving Day wine, pop and pour. White grapefruit, light spice, lavender, and other floral notes on the nose. Not overly buttery, this has a steel-like note in the taste while providing a modest buttery mouthfeel. Fruit components are mature and fading, indicating that while this is very enjoyable, its best years are in the rear-view mirror.Drink up. Purchased on the secondary market, prior storage may have influenced condition. (3870 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 10/27/2014 & rated 88 points: Four years from my last bottle. Tropical fruit and toast on the nose. Palate is lush, soft, and mouth coating. In a buttery, creamy, soft, ripe style. Moderately long finish, showing more toast and some heat. The fruit has fallen behind the oak notes here I don't see time helping this. Not my prefered style of chardonnay. (4000 views)
Tasted by pdemaio on 8/9/2014: This is rounding out beautifully with a little age. Lovely complexity. Good acid. Rich mouthfeel.

Tasted by walkerjfw on 8/8/2014 & rated 91 points: At home with Thai food...last bottle of this vintage. Took about 20 minutes to open.

Light gold color. Nose of honey, minerals, chalk. Palate of citrus, peach, apricot, white flowers. Lemongrass. Oak on mid palate and finish. Medium finish.

Generally prefer the Isobel, but this is really nice. In a good spot now, would drink over next two years. (1833 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 7/31/2014 & rated 91 points: Drinking superbly right now. I don't usually go for big new world Chards, which this is, but then this one is on the lighter side of that spectrum. Relatively well balanced. Tropical. Minerals. I would buy more if not so spendy. (1897 views)
Tasted by dpolivy on 4/19/2014 & rated 92 points: Honeyed nose, a touch of petrol and chalk. Full bodied, with a nice mouthfeel. Citrus fruit, white peach, and flowers mingled with light spice. A nice spine of acidity on the finish, balanced out with the softness from oak. (1668 views)
Tasted by juneau bob on 4/13/2014 & rated 90 points: Nice balance of crispness and oak. Medium body. (1543 views)
Tasted by Sternmat on 3/19/2014 & rated 92 points: Still light and fresh for a Chard, good taste of lemon and some green flavors, nicely balanced with oak. (1451 views)
Tasted by jmcmchi on 12/29/2013 & rated 90 points: Buttery, rich and long (1111 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/8/2013 & rated 92 points: Light straw coloring. Apricot, green apple on the nose, joined by pear on the palate. More crisp than buttery, nice approach. Nice wine in or around its window. At $42 incl tax and fees on 2ndary market, this was a good buy worth repeating. (2244 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 8/25/2013 & rated 93 points: Classic Dumol Chard, all the minerality and tropical fruit I love. Drinking well, but should hold up down the road. (2249 views)
Tasted by dfaircloth on 8/14/2013 & rated 91 points: Tropical notes with hints of honeysuckle, Bartlett pear, creme brûlée, and nicely balanced toasty oak. (1056 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 5/31/2013 & rated 88 points: Not as pleased with this bottle as past efforts. Huge big expansive nose but attempts to create a lean "vibrant" bottle has left the stuff a bit tart and thin on the palate. Finish nothing special. The score is as high as it is because of the nose.

When I look back on my last reviews there seems to be a clear trend (downward). I think I will hold off for at least another year to see if this comes out of its current shell (of course by then it may be practically undrinkable.......) (2480 views)
Tasted by sfarwig on 5/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Impulse buy after a tasting at the local wine shop. Tastes like a $50 chardonnay, but then again how many bottles of $50 chardonnay does one need? Enjoyed the bottle, but not sure I have an urge to purchase more. (2405 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 5/2/2013 & rated 91 points: Carried into a restaurant, PnP.
No formal note.
Fragrant nose, aromas of lemon, apple, vanilla, and a tense lime note.
The palate is crisp and delicious, with fruit notes echoed from the nose, including citrus notes, crisp apple skin, vanilla, and a hint of minerality.
This was a very good quality wine, drinking quite well now, but perhaps improving another year, and drinking well through 2017. A very nice drink, but not sure about value for $50+. (2385 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 4/26/2013 & rated 88 points: Didn't love this bottle. Showing too much oak, not well integrated. Was much better last year. (1793 views)
Tasted by Pinot luva on 3/29/2013 & rated 90 points: Light lemon/gold in colour
Intense nose of lemon citrus, stone fruit, oatmeal, butter, oak, minerality
Intense, full bodied palate of lemon, peach, oak, butter, hints of honey.
Long length, med plus acid, high alcohol. Quite Puligny-like.
Alcohol quite high and a bit out of balance.
Awesome full bodied Chardonnay with rich varietal fruit , big oak, high acidity. Can cellar for at least a decade. (1833 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 12/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Remains incredibly consistant and wonderfully balanced chardonnay with soft oak and nice citrus flavors. (2089 views)
Tasted by cbkamp on 11/22/2012 & rated 88 points: This has gotten even more oaky/butterscotch since I last tried this. Hints of tropical fruit but mainly vanilla and butterscotch. It's a fine wine and very well made - just not my thing. (2254 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
