Community Tasting Notes (average 94.8 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by cct on 10/29/2022 flawed bottle: Painfully corked. What was underneath it was fantastic. Bummer (940 views)
Tasted by liber on 8/27/2022 & rated 91 points: Last of 12, pnp, ullaged half inch, soaked cork, slight heightening of colour, rich almost honeyed flavours, now quite broad, if nuanced, with citric notes diminished, some oxidation through age (not pox!), in decline though still attractive with right food pairing, drink up. Just about F (17.5).......bottle unnoted about 5 years ago was in better shape and lovely then 93+. (781 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 11/22/2021 flawed bottle: Faulty cork, wine was oxidized. (1255 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 10/22/2021 & rated 95 points: Another great looking bottle tasted blind, this wine was excellent and going strong. It was balanced, stony, and long. Top notch! (1386 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 8/1/2021 & rated 95 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. It had a medium+ intensity nose of green apples, toasted vanilla, citrus, and almond paste.

In the mouth, this wine was intense and gorgeously integrated with crisp acidity and great length.

This bottle developed extremely well with air. While fully mature it is still going strong. Excellent! (1499 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 5/16/2021 & rated 95 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose offered up lemon, toffee, apples, and minerals.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with great acidity and awesome length.

This bottle clearly exhibited mature flavors, with its toffee, but if you like that (which I happen to) it was quite an impressive wine. This bottle was certainly begging to be drunk. However, there are some fresher bottles out there. Either way, this wine should be consumed. (1318 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 11/28/2019 & rated 95 points: From a good looking bottle with a firm cork, this wine was on target again.

The medium intensity nose offered up citrus, marzipan, honey, and white soil. This is very similar to other bottles I have had other than it was on the more mature side. It was best after only about 30-60 minutes of air.

Certainly ready to drink. Enjoy! (1876 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 11/15/2019 & rated 95 points: Classic nose of aged wood - mahogany in its refinement. Unctuous, rich and delicious wine - sweet and pure. Truly an impressive assemblage of fruits - as others have noted - guava, orange, peach all wrapped up in a lovely minerality. (1511 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 7/24/2018 & rated 94 points: JM House. They don't make them like this anymore. Unique orange peel aromatics. Feels broad on the palate. (2148 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 1/23/2018: This was so good. Super complex with a nose of rockmelon, guava, ripe peach, honey, lavender and white mushroom. In the mouth it is full, layered and textured with real latent power and a finish that drives on and on. In the absolutely perfect place for mine right now. (2414 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 10/1/2017 & rated 95 points: This good looking bottle ended up having a loose cork. Thus, it was not surprising that the wine had a deep yellow/gold center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose offered up citrus, pear, creme brûlée, white stone, and hazel nuts.

In the mouth, this wine was quite rich with lovely balance and great length. As with all the bottles I have had, the acidity was riveting.

This bottle was fully mature as the cork was loose. More pristine bottles are right in the middle of the drinking window. (2363 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 8/30/2017 flawed bottle: Mivvy Back in Town: Corked. (2263 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 1/17/2017 flawed bottle: Burgundy and Rhone: Corked :( (2753 views)
Tasted by Rupert on 11/25/2016: Ah, mature white burgundy is a bitter sweet pleasure now that we don't get it any more. Here it all is - the leanness, the lemon freshness, the grip, the depth. Gorgeous. (1939 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 7/1/2016: An exotic rendition of Corton that bursts with tropical fruit aromas and flavours. There’s guava, mango and rockmelon. You get a bit of lavender, honey and dried apricot from the botrytis. It if full and voluminous with a sappy mouthfeel and for all the riot of flavour the wine possesses excellent posture and has a fresh and inviting finish. (2298 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 5/22/2016 & rated 95 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed citrus, egg custard, apples, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with nice richness and impressive acidity. It even came off as still a bit young!

This was another impressive bottle. Could it even get better? In any event, well stored bottles will easily last another 10 years. (2093 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 3/7/2016: I have had many bottles of this beauty over the years but none better than this one. It was a bottle recently acquired direct from the Domaine. The cork was in so tight I nearly tore my bicep off the bone trying to get it out. It poured out glistening with green hues. It had some restrained tropical notes along with a little butter, apricot and lavender. It was full and rich with preserved lemon flavour and still the steely line of Corton. It had so much drive, poise and length. Near perfect white Burg. (2291 views)
Tasted by mjg87 on 10/24/2015: This was my third or fourth time with this wine, which was always incredibly brilliant in the past. On the nose, this was just wonderful, with all sorts of umami and beef broth notes, mushrooms, nuttiness, but still some fruit. It was a bit flat on the palate initially, and not up to the level of prior bottles, but it kept picking up vitality as it got air. Probably the worst of the bottles of this I've tried, but still an excellent wine. (1880 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 8/9/2015 & rated 93 points: This bottle was from the same batch as the others. It had a somewhat lower fill and a slightly loose cork. However, the color was similar to the others with a deep yellow center and clear rims.

I thought this bottle might be flawed when it was first poured. After two hours of air the medium+ intensity nose was blasting lemons, coconut, apples, and almond paste. It was surprisingly exotic.

It the mouth, this wine was riper, and slightly more mono-toned, than other bottles. However, it also had searing acidity and great length.

This wine will easily last 10+ years. Different but entertaining. (2121 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 7/12/2015 & rated 96 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a medium yellow center with clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose of lemons, almond paste, honey, and white stone was fantastic! I was told this bottle was decanted for 3+ hours before we started drinking it and it just got better and better during the 2 hours we were able to enjoy it.

In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with an unusual burst of fruit that made it seem like a Leflaive. However, as with prior bottles, this wine had fantastic balance, acidity and length.

This wine is in great shape and will last for 10+ years. This particular bottle had just a bit more fruit than others. Is this wine boxing above its weight class? (1815 views)
Tasted by Clos & Cru on 6/24/2015 & rated 96 points: Amazing complexity and intensity of butterscotch baked pear, caramelised nuts, sunflowers with caramelised onion
Buttery texture, roasted pumpkin, complexity and very long. absolutely delicious (1899 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 5/20/2015 & rated 98 points: Mind bending wine. Perfectly aged. Golden in color. Intoxicating nose. So complex on the palate that I cannot put it into words. One of the finest wines I've ever tasted. (1981 views)
Tasted by FYC on 3/27/2015: Initially tasted oxidized and lacking in acid to me despite being opened for 4 hours. Again this gained acidity and became excellent over time. Rich fruit, wonderful aged notes of buttered popcorn and white mushrooms. Nice texture and weight. As good as maybe even better than the 1990 Ladot Chevalier Montrachet Demoiselles by the end of the night. Yet another wonderful showing of this wine. (1459 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 2/28/2015 & rated 95 points: From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a yellow center, with just a touch of green, and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed green apple, honey, almond paste, citrus, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was rich but showed strong acidity, great balance and fantastic length.

This wine is right in the zone and will last for 5 years easy, probably much longer. (1456 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 9/18/2014 & rated 95 points: Bright golden yellow in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of well developed, mature & complex ripe fruit aromas of lemon/lime, apples & peaches with mineral overtones, floral notes of honeysuckle, spices, wet stones, butterscotch & roasted hazelnuts. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, smooth textured, viscous, mature & complex, ripe fruit flavors of green apples, zesty lemons/limes, pear & yellow peaches with minerals, spices, hazelnuts & butterscotch. Long lingering vibrant & crisp finish. Drinks quite well at present and has the structure and fruit to hold into its current plateau of development longer. (1859 views)

Burgundy-Report (11/1/2004)
(Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne) From magnum. Bright golden colour. The nose shows complex notes that include honey and lanolin. A model of freshness and power the palate has engrossing complexity and a special 'extra' dimension on the finish. Real class.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
