Community Tasting Notes (average 88.1 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Kitura on 4/1/2017 & rated 90 points: Belated note. Very enjoyable bottle. Cola, cherries, and undergrowth. Can detect some bottle age on the wine now. Then fruit is less, the wine is more mellow. Still seems like there's life left. Will be interesting to see where this goes in a couple more years. (1032 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 6/10/2014 & rated 89 points: Translucent garnet - noted some browning on the second day. I had a hard time initially seeing much development with this wine and would love to taste this alongside the 2011 or 2012 vintage to get a good comparison. One thing's clear to me though - there's still a lot of vigour and youthfulness here and i don't see this fading anytime soon. The first aroma is undergrowth rather than fruit - so maybe some secondary aromas are starting to come more into play. And there's still that green pepper/alcoholic kick on the finish that for me is a signature of BM. Will have to check back in a year or so and maybe open a recent bottling beside it. (2586 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 4/8/2014: Drank other night, wine was pretty big, big and ripe, balanced still but a huge wine more of Sonoma then a Oregon for example (2791 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 4/13/2013 & rated 89 points: med intensity on the nose with lovely big rich cranbery/cherry [the oregon nose/NW nose ] High Acidity, med body, med+ intensity, med finish red fruits spicy attack

Conc: Tasting good now, cpl years to go for sure, see the difference now between this and the stripe label, showing its inexpensive side [not bad thats for sure!] (3577 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 1/10/2013 & rated 89 points: The wine has become more translucent with time and I think this is starting to gain some secondary characteristics. Quite the pretty aromas immediately upon opening: undergrowth and cherries. There is also a bit of sweetness coming from the alcohol in the wine, but it's not really unpleasant. Still vibrant and I believe this has a lot of life left yet. Blue Mountain Pinot doesn't disappoint. (3661 views)
Tasted by DFlater on 10/10/2012 & rated 89 points: Wonderful balance. Fruity nose. Not overwhelmed by alcohol like several other Okanagan wines from that vintage (3381 views)
Tasted by DFlater on 9/17/2012 & rated 89 points: Lovely balance and finish. (2074 views)
Tasted by DFlater on 9/15/2012 & rated 90 points: Excellent Pinot. (1940 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 8/26/2012 & rated 87 points: Dark ruby colour. Fragrant, candied cherry nose. There is some earthy, forest floor aromas that blow off fairly quickly. I feel like this wine needs more time in the bottle and I sense some great potential here. Better than the last bottle I had, this one had more presence. Good effort, will try the next one in 6 months. (1334 views)
Tasted by SiR on 6/10/2012 & rated 87 points: 13.5% - Clear pale ruby / Clean, med intensity – black cherry, cola, forest floor, spices / dry, med+ acidity, med body, low tannin, med intensity, med length. Pretty much the same as last tasting note... (1873 views)
Tasted by Kitura on 6/9/2012 & rated 87 points: Translucent garnet color. Whereas the first bottle of this I had more than a year ago was concentrated, big and bold this bottle is completely the opposite - understated and feminine. This might be partly from bottle shock transporting the wine. Some cherry and a bit of earth. Very clean and easy to drink. Good, but a bit dissapointing. (1191 views)
Tasted by SiR on 3/21/2012 & rated 87 points: 13.5% - Clear pale ruby / Clean, Med intensity – black cherry, a bit vegetal (mushroom), very interesting and pleasant nose / dry, med+ acidity, med body, low soft tannin, med intensity, med length and more complexity to the nose than palate but remains a good Q/P. Some cherry-cola on the palate.
Even though the first glass left an oak/wood aftertaste on my palate, it seemed to go away as the wine got some air to breath and became quite smooth without undesirable oaky flavor that don’t let the fruit speak. Based on this bottle, I suppose the last bottle I tried was a flaw. (2093 views)
Tasted by SadEdjo on 2/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Transparent. Spicy sour cherry cola, pine needle nose. sweetish entry with vanilla, cedary well integrated sweet tannins, butterscotch lifting acidity on lingering finish. New world fruit on old world structure. Excellent QPR (1567 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 2/10/2012 & rated 91 points: No Formal note this bottle on that night. It has a destressing wine. And you know what it was showing fantastic [drinking from a Oregon Pinot Riedel Glass]

Floral and Elegant and Bright, good Balance from Start to Finish. In a good place, I have more bottles so those ones Ill take proper tasting notes (1612 views)
Tasted by AUDIocee on 2/9/2012 & rated 86 points: A nice light ruby red colour. Decanted for around 30 minutes. Smells of floral, strawberry, cherry, and wood. Wine seems strong, perhaps it's still young or needs more time to breath. (1562 views)
Tasted by ebukovinsky on 1/16/2012 & rated 85 points: Blue mountain is the steady pinot producer of the Okanagan. Decent nose, well balanced fruit and spice tones, though neither particularly strong. (1644 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 12/4/2011 & rated 90 points: No formal notes

Nose here reminds me of oregon pinot, that touch of 'bigness' smells nice
T: med+body, med/- tannin, med+ int,med+finish, med+ acid
Delicious fruit, texture, oregon profile, touch of chocolate

Conc: solid wine love it, glad I bought 6more from winery before they sold out (1841 views)
Tasted by Winekrupt on 10/16/2011 & rated 87 points: Appealing florals, humus, caramel and herbaceous notes on the nose. The palate was a little disappointing after the boquet: monodimensional and thrown off by a troubling sweetness and some perceived a slight sparkle, like a referment started up in the bottle. The jury is still out on the long term. Initially this wine did not agree with me, but after one day it seems to have shed its sweet mouth feel. The tannins and acid are still quite present. Will lay down a few bottles to see how it ages. (1901 views)
Tasted by sunderbeau on 8/19/2011 & rated 89 points: - Ruby color with medium forming legs and aromas of strawberry, rose and dusty. It's balanced and has flavours of mint, strawberry and dusty with a medium body. Angular texture with a long finish - I really liked it. Especially for the price point of a a good quality Canadian Pinot. Classic sburgundian nose of rose petals and compost. Cfris acidity almost wings at mint and wild strawberries. The earthy Pinot nose follows through onto the palate as well. Tannins have a bit of a hard edge but I'm sure it will soften and smooth out shortly. (1958 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 8/16/2011 & rated 89 points: Pinot And Salmon Night (Hills of Eugene): No Formal Tasting Notes, drank in Oregon, Brought to a Pinot Night

Good wine, showed well with nice power this stuff is a buy! (2300 views)
Tasted by df1962 on 7/24/2011 & rated 88 points: PnP. Strong crimson color but still clearly pinot. Big red fruit aromas and a touch of earth. Full of nice ripe red fruit but with balancing acidity. A bit weak on the finish. (1921 views)
Tasted by Eric Ponton on 7/16/2011 & rated 88 points: I had this lovely wine with Beef Bourguignon last night; perfect match! A bit strong at the first sip but after breathing for an hour I become quite addicted. Subtle cherries on the nose and lovely spice on the finish. Couldn't keep it for the next day ;) (1964 views)
Tasted by dustbuddy on 5/28/2011 & rated 85 points: Fresh cherry on the nose which follows through on the palate. There is some complexity with burnt caramel notes but let down by sharp acidity. (2108 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 4/28/2011 & rated 89 points: Rhubarb, Cherry, Spice, Good Focus and Precious Excellent PN (2213 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.
