Tasted by levinml on 12/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Drank over two nights. A little funk at first, but blew off nicely and provided good, middle of the fairway profile over two nights. Better second night under pump. (1005 views)
Tasted by ajrez on 5/18/2023 & rated 95 points: In a really nice window. Tannins still have some grip (as you'd expect) but they're nicely integrated and secondary and tertiary flavors are starting to show through. Got the pedigree to last a while longer but beautiful to drink now with 30 minute decant to blow off the initial awkwardness (2115 views)
Tasted by CotoDC on 5/17/2023 & rated 94 points: Really great bottle of Dunn Howell Mt, spectacular fruit and showing very little signs of age with some secondary characteristics but still very youthful. Drink now or hold for ???? Very enjoyable experience right now. (1910 views)
Tasted by TroyP on 4/30/2023 & rated 94 points: Decanted 3 hours. A dark, complex, concentrated wine with dark fruits, mineral and spice. Very structured and a nice finish. (1860 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 4/15/2023 & rated 95 points: Dark red color. Plums, blackberries, blueberries, licorice, chocolate, and spice in the nose. Lots of black fruits, black currants, blackberries and plums in the flavor with minerals and spice. A rich, concentrated wine with great structure and complexity, very well balanced, medium to full bodied and a long smooth finish. (2020 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 3/27/2023 & rated 96 points: Shared with my 2 sibs out in Sedona over some steaks in our wonderful VRBO. Cork was dry & crumbly so I decanted for 3hrs prior to dinner. This superb cabernet w/ signature Dunn density, drive and precision on both the nose and the palate deliver dark raspberry, pencil, cigar box, mineral and spice. A very complete harmonious cab that is Howell Mountain all the way. Very terroir centric! Suave and complex w/ sufficient air. World class with age. (2120 views)
Tasted by ReidCellar on 12/23/2022 & rated 95 points: Excellent! Ready to drink. Enjoyed with standing rib roast. (1605 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 7/20/2022 & rated 99 points: Perfect bottle tonight- much more body, fruit, and tannin all in balance; 13.6% alcohol so somewhat ripe for Dunn. Great nose of black and blue fruit; full bodied, blackberries, tea, a hint of smoke and tar; still mouthwatering after 20+ years, and the tannins are sweet and go on forever… a grand slam. (2334 views)
Tasted by Crew Beaujolais Boys on 2/9/2022 & rated 95 points: Very reduced, sulfur notes on opening. Decanted one hour and it opened beautifully. Medium intensity of aroma, cassis, earthy, soil, dried cherry like a Black Forest gateau, leather, cedar, graphite, a hint of herbs de Provence.

Medium-plus body, concentrated dried cherry, blueberry jam, leather, hint of smoke, vanilla oak, silky tannins medium, medium to medium-high acidity, off-dry, medium length on the palate. The wine is in a very good place. (3030 views)
Tasted by G_H on 2/5/2022 & rated 94 points: Dense and dark, tart with some irish moss but also a whiff of dusty rug. (2771 views)
Tasted by Thief on 1/30/2022 & rated 96 points: Layers of sweet plum and blackberry jam. A very masculine wine, but not over the top. Everything is in balance. Super silky tannins and full bodied round mouthfeel. Kept evolving in the glass giving new flavors over hours. Stunning. (2780 views)
Tasted by barrytaylor on 1/23/2022 & rated 94 points: a little cloudy, dark color, well balanced, drank against 01 Rafanelli, teras select, toss up as to the better wine (2413 views)
Tasted by RyanWu on 12/12/2021 & rated 93 points: It was in a very good drinking window now. The nose was cedary, a hint of new oak, and blue fruits. On the palate, everything came together. You got silky texture, dark fruits, licorice, a bit sweetness, and mature tannins. The lasting was also fairly long. It was a great wine and kept everything in the right spots. Now I know why Dunn Howell mountain needs time. I did recieve the pay back from time of waiting. A wonderful experience. (2144 views)
Tasted by Frank Schneider on 10/5/2021 & rated 97 points: Salty stuff ! Very special. Concenrated but not heavy on the fruit. Herbal and spicy big body. Very long. Pnp and jumped out the glass. A treat. This is why it is worth to wait. Patience has been rewarded. Lovely (2223 views)
Tasted by dabovino on 7/13/2021 & rated 95 points: This bottle was outstanding from the get go. It does not seem to require three more years in the bottle as the drinking window suggests. Bordeaux like elegance. Loved this wine. (2509 views)
Tasted by ginfizz on 6/25/2021 & rated 96 points: Aging well, needs a hour in the decanter and then flawless. 93 out of the bottle, but just wait. Mint, dusty cassis, pencil lead, classic Dunn profile of reigned in pristine fruit and increasing complexity. (2245 views)
Tasted by Montesquieu on 5/31/2021 & rated 95 points: Second time enjoying this wine in the last year. It's fantastic now and, if similar to Dunn HMs from the 1980s and early 1990s, will continue to get even better. My prior bottle of 2001 was magical; this one was merely great. If those are the two possible outcomes from drinking now, you can't go wrong. (2409 views)
Tasted by dream on 5/27/2021 & rated 91 points: A big, complex wine that still has oak to resolve so not showing its best yet in my opinion. Rich black fruits with graphite minerals and substantial but supple tannins. Needs more age but plenty of potential here. 91+ (2383 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 5/10/2021 & rated 96 points: This wine was clean.... no brett or funk as is often present from this house. Gorgeous dark purple fruits, blackberry preserves, mulberry, herbs, great concentration and a long finish. Blind would be comparable to a first growth Bordeaux. Bravo! (2084 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 2/3/2021 & rated 95 points: ...and Napa goes Bordeaux (2433 views)
Tasted by rlove on 12/24/2020 flawed bottle: Similar to the 1995 we also opened tonight, a fecal funk dominates a savory nose. (2555 views)
Tasted by Montesquieu on 12/23/2020 & rated 98 points: Such an extraordinary wine. Among all of the many Cali cult cabs my friends have shared with me this year, none had the depth and beauty of this wine at age 19, and probably none of them will develop it in time. Dunn Howell and Ridge MB are my two favorite American reds, and they have yet to let me down, including plenty of Dunns from the 1980s bought second- (or third?) hand, as this case was. I see the CT drinking window starts in 2024. No doubt it will be great then and for a few decades thereafter. But I'll give it a 98 right now. Fantastic mix of primary and secondary flavors, all in harmony, with length and beauty. A great wine that is absolutely ready to rock your world. (2508 views)
 Tasted by JR_Boston on 11/8/2020 & rated 98 points: 10 Year Tasting @ Cobble (1997-2006)
This vintage was the star of the show. Scored the highest across all categories. Tasted like a great Cab should (2418 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 9/12/2020 & rated 94 points: Absolutely gorgeous right now with red/black fruit and that ever present eucalyptus note with chewy tannins on the finish. (2660 views)
Tasted by madalyn on 7/30/2020 & rated 94 points: love the wine, cork is a problem (2385 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
