 Tasted by biggie on 10/29/2020 & rated 94 points: Leaf Day - Pop and pour after standing upright on the counter for two days - may have some sediment but I only poured a glass for (hopefully) enjoyment and education. Dark garnet (opaque) core extending out to a narrow light garnet edge. Nose of damp earth, savoury herbs (almost garrigue-like), rich and ripe dark fruit, and with just a touch of 70% dark chocolate. Very smooth and velvety on the palate with dark fruit caressing the mouth. This is rich and full bodied with wonderful ripe fruit, milk chocolate, ripe tannins and bright acidity showing. Not really showing much in development at all. Savoury, spicy (white pepper?) and warm on the finish (13.5% ABV stated on the label). This is really youthful and I would have said it was a 2015 or so vintage tasting it blind. Virtually no tertiary notes except for the beautiful herbal and chocolate finish. Stunning and easily can last another 5 years. Will it improve? Probably not, but it’s not often I wish I had more bottles of something - this is one of them. This cost $20 in a wine store in Montana in 2007. Will definitely decant this wine - there’s a bit of fairly large grains of sediment in my initial glass. (735 views)

It's balanced and has flavours of oak, prune, black currant and black pepper with a full body. Polished texture with a long finish - Give this a couple hours to open up and you will be rewarded with a beautiful, well-balanced, polished wine. Not the best but considering the price, the value is excellent. Remember, let it breathe. Oh, by the way, probably time to drink up but a couple more years in a good cellared environment won't hurt it. (3764 views)

Heavy aromas of dried plums and raisens on the nose that carry right to the palate. Upfront there is also quite a bit of blueberry and holiday spice carried on a medium to large frame. Somewhat hot on the finish with some pretty dry tannins. If you like PS I would recommend. (3987 views)

Drying tannins on the finish but not as much as I'd come to expect from petite sirah. A bit hot on the finish. A fruit-forward, consumer-friendly wine at a very attractive price point. Significant tannins, spices and alcohol especially on the finish. It's not a bad wine, just not my cup of tea. Good value though if you like this style of PS. (4471 views)
 Tasted by thetong on 2/12/2008 & rated 87 points: I bought this on its 90 point score and because I love PS. I was disappointed. Closed nose, hot, and extreme green tannins. Good mouthfeel but so tannic that I didn't enjoy it much. Nice cherries and some soil aspects. 84 points.

From notes: Decanted 2 hours. Heat has largely dissapated and tannins are less noticable. Cherries coming through much more obviously and it seems better balanced. 87-88 points. (4627 views)
 Tasted by pifcho on 2/7/2008 & rated 87 points: This is my first petite syrah experience and I am quiet happy with it. Dark ink color, cherries everywhere, dry tannins and good acidity. The wine was definitely better the 2nd and 3rd night as it settled down. Food friendly - had with lamb, chicken and pasta over the three days and it paired up nicely with each of them. Not very complex and a bit one dimensional, but tasty and pleasant. Good table wine. (4703 views)

This wine had a very fruit forward nose and was very light and smooth on my palate with consistent flavors from the nose. A very delicate wine, that I enjoyed very much and at $10 a bottle a great BBQ or party wine with friends. (4868 views)

Concannon Vineyards was founded in 1883 in Livermore, California and is a registered historical site. They were the first to bottle a varietal petite sirah in 1961. Owned by conglomerate The Wine Group, the Concannon family, including patriarch Jim Concannon, is still involved in running the winery, which produces several tens of thousands of cases a year.

Petite Sirah is a variety of red wine grape grown in France, California, Israel and Australia. Recently, wineries located in Washington State's Yakima Valley, Maryland, Arizona, West Virginia, Mexico, Chile's Colchagua Valley and Maipo Valley, and Ontario's Niagara Peninsula have also produced wines from Petite Sirah grapes. Though developed in France, it is nearly extinct there as of 2002, hanging on in limited plantings in the Isère and Ardêche regions of the Rhône Valley and in Palette, a tiny appellation in Provence. It is the main grape known in the US and Israel as Petite Sirah with over 90% of the California plantings labeled "Petite Sirah" being Durif grapes; the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms recognizes "Durif" and "Petite Sirah" as interchangeable synonyms referring to the same grape. The grape originated as a cross of Syrah pollen germinating a Peloursin plant. On some occasions, Peloursin and Syrah vines may be called Petite Sirah, usually because the varieties are extremely difficult to distinguish in old age.

The 'petite' in the name of this grape refers to the size of its berries and not the vine, which is particularly vigorous. The leaves are large with a bright green upper surface and paler green lower surface. The grape forms tightly packed clusters that can be susceptible to rotting in rainy environments. The small berries creates a high skin to juice ratio which can produce very tannic wines if the juice goes through an extended maceration period. In the presence of new oak barrels the wine can develop an aroma of melted chocolate.

Petite Sirah produces dark, inky colored wines that are relatively acidic with firm texture and mouth feel. The bouquet has herbal and black pepper overtones, with plum and blackberry flavors on the palate. Compared to Syrah, the wine is noticeably more dark and purplish in color. The wines are very tannic with aging ability that can eclipse 20 years in the bottle.

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
