Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 33 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by liber on 4/14/2024 & rated 91 points: Last of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, fruit diminishing in this bottle with citric edge slightly on the sharp side, probable downside but no real rush. Just about F (17.5). (118 views)
Tasted by Mag357 on 3/1/2024: Notes of new wood, with brioche and pastry, very old school Meursault in the Comte Lafon style, rich mouthfeel, a tad too rich. On day 2 became more balanced, with brighter acids. Old school Meursault. (229 views)
Tasted by liber on 9/23/2023 & rated 92 points: 11th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, back on track after July's indifferent bottle, plenty of zip, muted personality but rather charming, no upside but no rush for clean bottles.F (17.5). (393 views)
Tasted by liber on 7/13/2023 & rated 86 points: 10th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, an ok chard with little typicity or cut just like some of the earlier bottles, in fact staggeringly dull in this top vintage, hard to see where this wine is heading as it's not obviously flawed, but nor does it have any character or drive, hopefully upside, no rush. G (15). (393 views)
Tasted by liber on 2/23/2023 & rated 90 points: 9th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, getting bigger, quite oily but better nuance and drive than November bottle if some way off the best bottles, plateau, no rush. VGI (17). (575 views)
Tasted by liber on 11/27/2022 & rated 86 points: 8th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, correct but boring, little delineation, bit of a blob presenting more like a village wine, couldn't spot any obvious fault but way off usual standard for this wine, no rush. G (15). (639 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/29/2022 & rated 92 points: 7th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, as Jan bottle if with nutty component (skin tannins?) more prominent, needs time on this showing, upside, 5+ years. F (17.5). (709 views)
Tasted by Burghunt on 4/15/2022 & rated 92 points: mature Meursault Charmes
light golden color
nose and taste with tropical fruit, honey and mineral. good acidity
a bit of spice at palate
overall an enjoyable bottle. (625 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/11/2022 & rated 92 points: 6th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, pale, citrus led but plenty of underlying material, muted minerality, hint of oil, significant upside based on this bottle BUT NB last week's dead bottle!!! At least F (17.5). (810 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/4/2022 & rated 84 points: 5th of 12, opened 15 minutes, apparently perfect cork and level - colour up, POXY, just about drinkable but broad, flabby flavours, as ever good bottles are barely ready, bad like this needed drinking years ago. QG at best (14). (703 views)
Tasted by liber on 10/24/2021 & rated 92 points: 4th of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, definite step up on June bottle, more of everything, especially dimension and nuance, clear upside. F (17.5). (694 views)
Tasted by liber on 6/24/2021 & rated 91 points: 3rd of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, as last noted in April. F (17.5). (730 views)
Tasted by liber on 4/2/2021 & rated 91 points: 2nd of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, fuller, more dimension and nuance, upside, not far from maturity. F (17.5). (712 views)
Tasted by liber on 1/31/2021 & rated 89 points: 1st of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - pale yellow, leggy, quite young; pear, notable chalk and lemon, bit sharp at present; medium, tad short but underlying concentration, citric elements currently to fore but I'd expect wine to settle and show more fruit, no hint of pox, considerable upside here, probably needs a year or so to show properly. Currently VG+ (16.5). (730 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 7/22/2017 & rated 91 points: Rich golden in colour.
Honey blossom, citrus, pear on nose. Touch of yeast/savoury profile on the nose, but not a fault/premox issue. Blew off after a while.
Lovely fruit on the palate. White pear, plum, lemon. Bit of white pepper on the palate.
The classic sweetness of charmes comes through and in balance. Long acidity through the core. Gives real length and persistence.

Overall, although really enjoyable bottle. (1941 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 7/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Henri Germain 2010 meursault 1er charmes

Another crack at Henri Germain. Prior bottles have been impressive. I'd say another success here.
Rich golden in colour.
Honey blossom, citrus, pear on nose. Touch of yeast/savoury profile on the nose, but not a fault/premox issue. Blew off after a while.
Lovely fruit on the palate. White pear, lemon. Bit of white pepper on the palate.
The classic sweetness of charmes comes through and in balance. Long acidity through the core. Gives real length and persistence.

Overall, although really enjoyable bottle. (1831 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 6/3/2017 & rated 91 points: Henri Germain meursault 1er charmes 2010

Tropical and touch of sweetness on the nose. Less so on the palate. Great elegance and balance. Citrus notes. Touch of white stoned fruits. Long finish. This is a bottle that stops to make you think given the complexity. But ultimately this is really easy to drink. (1698 views)
(1766 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 2/25/2017 & rated 92 points: amazing again, nice citrus fruit, some mint and/or pine?, a touch of sweetness for luxury, simply a great drink (1687 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 12/14/2016 & rated 89 points: this bottles wasn't quite as good as past bottles, thought the citrus was hiding here, good cut and acidity, but could have used something delicious to balance the nice structure, perhaps in a sleeping phase?, nonetheless a pleasant drink (966 views)
Tasted by RayOB on 10/20/2016 & rated 92 points: Drank in London
Nose of light butter, hazelnut, honey and wax. Very well balanced on the palate with a medium finish. Has not got the heaviness of a Meursault. (1000 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 9/14/2016: This is such a nice wine. Ripe white fruit on the nose. Crystalline. The palate has delicate bit-o-honey notes mixed with golden fruit and a fabulous elegance in presentation. I don't note any bitterness. The volume here is substantial and the finish is sublime. Very young and very good! I love this house style. (1315 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 7/5/2016 & rated 91 points: my june '16 note applies, in addition this bottle had a little something extra / edgy, some rind with some bitter hints to provide some interest beyond the beautiful acidity and citrus... very good (1160 views)
Tasted by Papies on 7/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Young! Fresh, firm and full of vitality. Nice ripe fruit, good level and well assimilated oak, light buttery feel and more of a puligny in many respects than a fatty meursault. Lovely tensiona nd minerality. Very solid wine just about entering its drinking window. 92 (1435 views)
Tasted by galenico on 6/16/2016 & rated 94 points: Charmes tutto in eleganza e sobrietà. Entra soave per chiudere con una scia di mineralità figlia di annata straordinaria. Altro capolavoro che non considera nessuno. (1667 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
