Tasted blind. Cuvee from Riesling, Pinot blanc, Grüner Veltliner and Neuburger. Clean, youthful medium golden color. Clean, medium intense, youthful developing nose. Stone fruit, spices, some weird wiped floor notes. On the palate dry, medium acidity. 12,5% abv. Ripe stone fruit, spices, good structure, balanced. Medium, quite complex finish. Also with some strange, not really assignable flavors that I don't favor much. Very interesting, but not my wine. 86-88 (360 views) |
| Nikolaihof Producer website
Please note that while most wines of this Wachau producer are from that region, there is one property (Steiner Hund) that is actually in the Kremstal, and so is ineligible for the nomenclature used on Wachau wines. The Steiner Hund wine (one of Nikolaihof's top wines) has been variously described over the years as a Trockener Riesling Spätlese or a Riesling Trocken Reserve. The region 'Wachau' on Steiner Hund wines are incorrect--it should be 'Kremstal', but I'm having trouble changing it. Anyone help with this?
The wines are now produced biodynamically.
This former monastery in Mautern is now owned by the Saah family, who also serve their exquisite biodynamic fare in an onsite restaurant, an ideal place for a visit while in the valley spending a warm evening out under the ancient Imperial Linden tree in the courtyard, tasting wine, eating, and being regaled with Christine Saah's wonderful hospitality, close to heaven on earth for such as we. Highly recommended and a superb producer. jhtWhite Blend"White blend" means the wine is made from a blend of two or more different white varieties - or in some cases a blend of pink or red varieties that are vinified white, ie. without any skin contact. A blend of Antao, Arinto, Rouperio. Lower Austria Wine Region
Lower Austria isn't "southern" Austria, but rather northeastern. It derives its name from its downriver location on the Danube River, which flows from west to east.Wachau Official tourism website on weinlagen-info |
