Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 35 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by drummer on 4/16/2023 & rated 94 points: Has continued to improve in my cellar. Full body, well balanced, plenty of fruit and well integrated on the nose and palate, sturdy but soft tannin, guests were delighted (241 views)
Tasted by dhogan68 on 7/3/2022: It is best it has ever been. 7/3/22 (311 views)
Tasted by laetulos on 3/19/2019 & rated 91 points: My last bottle. Aged very well, I get bourbon notes, with oak and dark berries. (843 views)
Tasted by Kentw on 9/1/2018 & rated 90 points: At a very nice drinking window. Black fruits and some spice in mid palate. Not much tannin at this stage. (1004 views)
Tasted by ddmhunter on 3/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Definitely in the window of drinking well, the QPR is outstanding as it demonstrates by hitting the palate with well structured fruit and finishes with mild to medium well integrated tannins. (1890 views)
Tasted by hebill on 12/25/2016: Drinking really nicely now. Should easily go another 3-4 years. (1547 views)
Tasted by tdskier on 9/17/2016 & rated 93 points: A really great wine. Opened couple hours before serving. Awesomely smooth, nice long favors. (1774 views)
Tasted by dzal808@gmail.com on 2/20/2016 & rated 92 points: I had my last bottle of the '08 vintage. There has been some variation. But has varied from really good to fantastic. This last bottle was just that - absolutely the finest that I can remember. I had a 20 year old bottle of Varozza Cab a few days before which I really enjoyed. But compared to Temple, it wasn't even close. I would love to be able to just go to the store and buy a wine of this caliber, but it's not so simple. (1674 views)
Tasted by dzal808@gmail.com on 11/29/2015 & rated 91 points: Found some more. Experience was similar to notes from the past. A really excellent wine. It is a shame they are no longer bottling their own. (1654 views)
Tasted by AMC Eagle on 2/5/2014 & rated 92 points: 30 minute decant; similar to my last tn of 2 years ago though the tannins are more integrated than before and the flavor profile somewhat subdued a bit. Either way, still an excellent Cali cab for a good price. (2428 views)
Tasted by dbernini on 1/5/2014 & rated 92 points: The wine was smooth and easy to drink without much airing, but improved on day two. I wish I had purchased a case. (2402 views)
Tasted by laetulos on 10/10/2013 & rated 89 points: Nice wine, although after 3 hours in the decanter I thought it didn't have as much power in subtlety as I was hoping for. (2439 views)
Tasted by mkewildebeast on 6/14/2013: Like that currant flavor so much, we had to open another bottle (2749 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 5/31/2013 & rated 91 points: Getting better each passing month. Lots of fruit, acidity and tanins are rounding out, medium smooth finish. (2491 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 2/2/2013 & rated 92 points: Wonderful wine. Similar to previous notes. Great fruit and balance from nose to finish. (1971 views)
Tasted by BrianPA on 12/26/2012 & rated 92 points: 2 hour decant. Dark in color and silky smooth, typical Cab flavors with a hint of vanilla and mocha. Paired with beef tenderloin for Christmas dinner. Loved it for $29, a bargain for a full flavor Napa Cab. Will look forward to drinking the remaining 5 bottles! (2162 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 10/20/2012 & rated 93 points: Outstanding as with the previous bottle/tasting note. Consumed over 3 hours while listening to the Florida Orchestra at Vinoy Park in St Petersburg, FL on a cool fall night. Couldn't get any better. (2126 views)
Tasted by EJKIII on 10/5/2012 & rated 91 points: What a bargain! Wonderful characteristics in a very moderately priced bottle. Fruit shows early, balanced by solid overall structure, tannins and a very long, smooth finish. Came together very nicely as the last glasses were poured. It should get even better as it adds a few years This will be an everyday go-to if I can find more. (1895 views)
Tasted by dzal808@gmail.com on 9/12/2012 & rated 92 points: Had my last bottle. This is sooo good. (1991 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 7/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Concentrated body, but thin edges - midnight-garnet hue. Blackberry bouquet with oak, cedar, and milk chocolate. Currant liqueur with underbrush and cinnamon. Finished moderately long, became very mellow over the 4 hour evolution. Medium round tannins, acidity flashy at first then becomes composed and adds to a tempered silky finish. 91/B = 50/5/12/8/8/8 (1660 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 7/25/2012 & rated 94 points: Aromatic as it's pouring from the bottle. Strawberry, blueberry, blackberry on the nose. Silky, smooth, cinnamon, dark fruits on the palate. Wonderful to sip on it's own but really comes alive with food. Well done. Happy to have 5 more bottles :) (1843 views)
Tasted by dzal808@gmail.com on 6/20/2012 & rated 92 points: AWESOME. This is about as good as it gets. Everything about this wine is fantastic. Huge mouth watering bouquet, soft layered mouth feel, no heat - like none, and a longgggggg finish. So delicious. Oh how I wish I had bought more when I had the chance. I'm gona shop around and see if I can get more. (1721 views)
Tasted by AMC Eagle on 4/13/2012 & rated 93 points: Decanted for over 2 1/2 hours. Deep ruby red in colour. Lively blue and black berries, vanilla, and some currants on the nose. Silky smooth creme de cassis, black berries, and some dark chocolates on the palate. The underlying tannins enveloped the the mouth which definitely merits this cellar worthy. 93+ (1904 views)
Tasted by sasvino on 3/24/2012 & rated 92 points: Great for price point, big fruit on the front, choco/vanilla notes on the midpalate, solid body and finish as well. Should improve with time. low 90s with upside. -S (1916 views)
Tasted by Foodievines on 3/20/2012 & rated 91 points: Raspberry, currant, and a hint of cocoa. Plush entry, velvety texture, and nice balance. Consistent from previous tasting. Decant for an hour, makes a difference. (2202 views)

Temple Family Vineyards

Producer website

The Temple family’s respect for the land follows a tradition which started in the pine forests of East Texas. Four generations of Temples built a diversified forest products company which led the industry in sustainable forestry practices. These forests remain some of the most progressively farmed and harvested in the world and have received many awards for conservation and related practices.

In 1987 the first family member moved to the Napa Valley and bought a hillside property, twelve acres of native blue oaks with seven acres of vines. These old vines were removed and replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon, which was sold to local wineries at premium prices. In 1995, after two years of seeking a location offering an ideal environment for growing fine grapes, the Temple family bought a large ranch in Pope Valley within the Napa Valley appellation. Under the experienced management of Arthur Spencer, son of the owner, 43 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 20 acres of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Grenache were planted. By 2004 the current generation of the Temple family teamed up to make Temple Family Vineyards wine.

Our vineyard practices enhance flavors in the grapes, producing small, intense berries which are the most prized for winemaking. We planted the vines ourselves and do all of our own farming in order to foster an intimate knowledge of the vineyard and its needs. Experienced and dedicated workers carry out our vision of quality and sustainability.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
