Tasted by Steve.330i on 10/17/2022 & rated 92 points: red to garnet colour, delicious nose of ripe sour cherry, some dried plums and Porto wine which is providing also some enjoyable sweet notes; some balsamic notes too.

Medium-bodied. Crummy. Long delicious. barrels, cedar and dark ripe berries. Cherry, mushroom, forest. (991 views)
Tasted by Hans Lukas on 2/26/2022 & rated 92 points: Üppiger Brnello mit angenehmem Reifeton. Man sollte ihn vorsichtig dekantieren. (1166 views)
Tasted by christian.tellvik@limab.se on 1/16/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice dark red colour. Warm earthy little sweet nose. Hints of cherries and leather. Notes of ceder and flavors from the old barn. On the palate you find a mature little dry, woody, warm and earthy taste. Some hints of Spices, Herbs and barn flavours. Good lenght. (1161 views)
Tasted by Hans Lukas on 11/6/2020 & rated 91 points: schön gereifter Brunello. Duft von Brommbeeren und reifen Pflaumen, Tabak, leicht erdige Noten, Teer, warme, reife, (zu süße) Frucht, abgerundete Tanine. (1036 views)
Tasted by Blauweiss on 5/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Beautiful Brunello, with dried cherries, leather, tar, tea on the nose. Mature and lovely balanced sangiovese. On the palate medium bodied, very elegant smooth red beries, Tobacco, leather, smloth tannin, great length, complex and really fun. (1381 views)
Tasted by Gian on 4/5/2020 & rated 89 points: Garnet color, red and dark fruits, balsamic, earth, on the palate is round with smooth tannins, medium/full bodied, refreshing acidity, good wine for red meat. (1142 views)
Tasted by vinero on 3/29/2020 & rated 92 points: Bought for a small price at Systembolaget. What a positive surprise - this is drinking wonderfully at the moment. Fresh, with great fruit, and a long, slightly sweet and herbal finish. (900 views)
Tasted by Smithereen on 12/28/2019 & rated 88 points: Was a little concerned about the bottle condition of this one - bought off a dusty shelf of a small grocery store in Montalcino in 2016. But it appeared to check out ok when opened. I was a little disappointed in the wine considering the great vintage. Very little nose. Palate started out ok with fairly rich vanilla from the oak and lots of strawberry and red berries. It was just a little hollow in the mid-palate and then a little too acidic on the finish. Better with food, but definitely not a standout - especially for this vintage. (1045 views)
Tasted by NavyVet6874 on 12/23/2019 & rated 91 points: Already showing brick edges. Opened in the decanter in short order. Drinking well now. (757 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 7/31/2019 & rated 93 points: Elegant with racy acidity. A good example of what this excellent vintage has to offer. (1123 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 12/1/2018: From the wine list at Le Zie (NYC). The nose on this is quite fragrant bursting with with a bowlful of ripe red berries. The palate is less interesting than the nose though, red berries (strawberries, raspberries) but also darker fruits (blackberry and currants), some earth and tannins but a bit thin in the mid palate. Drank well with penne bolognese, but not a standout on its own. (1327 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 12/30/2017 & rated 92 points: Interesting producer with vineyards very close to the legendary Soldera estate. Third bottle from case, tasted once a year since release. Very steep development curve, first bottle closed and austere with massive tannins, this bottle is fully mature. Opulent nose that jumps out of the glass, black currant, ripe cherries, spices and hints of mushroom. Rich and creamy mouthfeel held up by excellent acidity. A touch of oak. Great QPR, a producer to keep an eye on. 92p (545 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 5/16/2017 & rated 93 points: Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #019: Sangiovese, Italy (By PV): Beautiful and expressive bouquet with dark and red berries, sweet spices and luxurious oak. On the palate juicy red berries and cherries, cinnamon and other sweet spices, good acidity and bitterness, mild tannin and a good length. Still youthful, but already a pleasure. 92 – 93 (3017 views)
Tasted by Hans Lukas on 5/26/2016 & rated 91 points: toller Brunello; kann man jetzt mit Genuss trinken. Habe ihn eine Stunde dekantiert; angenehmes Tanin, ausgeprägte Frucht (3533 views)
Tasted by Strongchef on 3/29/2016 & rated 94 points: Brilliant nose full of red berries, dark berries and plum. On the front a presence of tannin and fruit, the tannin is silky soft and the fruit is noticeable with a big plum presence. Well balanced on the finish. Needs a little over an hour to open up. If you can find some, grab some (3746 views)
Tasted by Mikael.Wahlen on 2/28/2016 & rated 85 points: Nice balance of a typical Brunello Di Montalcino, a bit thin but a very complex sent which I find as a lovely smell of dark rose, really nice! (3520 views)
Tasted by Ultimatewinekick_Andreas on 11/19/2015 & rated 90 points: A rather masculine nose dominated by cherries and rubber notes but there are also some careful red fruit notes.

The acidity is on the attack and starts energetic but ends a bit harsh in the finish. Tannins are surprisingly smooth but still very present and gives some structure to the wine. The fruit is quite careful but there is some rather soft dry red berries. We also get some leather and tar but it does not dominate the wine.

This is a very honest Brunello with a masculine expression. The nose and the beginning of the palate is very good but the finish the wine gets slightly harsh. (3800 views)
Tasted by willthethrill on 10/18/2015 & rated 90 points: By far the fruitiest at the Eataly 2010 Brunello tasting. (2893 views)
Tasted by Gian on 9/8/2015 & rated 89 points: Persistent with my previous notes (1988 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
