Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by PDavisMarble on 5/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Best bottle of the lot to date. Reflections of the other bottles, however there was more balance and definition here. Less cloying than the last bottle and the acid was a perfect counterpoint to the range of sweet notes. (542 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 11/27/2021 & rated 92 points: Aromas of candied fruits. Fruity, sweet and concentrated on the palate. Typically for a Coteaux du Layon it is bit raw, wild and coarse compared with a Sauternes. Impressive and good, anyway. (749 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 10/10/2021: Light golden. Gently honeyed apricot fruit. Again, quite elegant but mouth coating, not overly sweet. The acidity makes it a refreshing rather than a ponderous drink. Lovely and still going strong. The 1989 and 1990 Loire late harvest wines seem almost immortal. (1285 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/16/2021: A Tasting of Chambolle-Musigny Village Wines from the 2005 Vintage (San Francisco): Golden. Honeyed. Luscious tropical fruit, yellow pear, and etching acidity. What's not to like? In great shape at 30+ years of age. (1651 views)
Tasted by jimcopland on 1/1/2021 & rated 94 points: Mature, high acidity, lemon, orange, honey. In equipoise. (974 views)
Tasted by PDavisMarble on 11/27/2020 & rated 87 points: More honeyed than the first bottle in the lot, both on the nose and palate. Darker, a bit thicker, though not sweeter. Drinking well. Perfect after-dinner wine when a Sauternes is too much. (631 views)
Tasted by PDavisMarble on 11/18/2020 & rated 91 points: Pink-bronze. Pineapples, apricots on the nose. Tropical fruits, candied lemon and a silky mouthfeel. This is a lovely surprise. Unknown provenance and in great shape. (448 views)
Tasted by Bob H on 12/15/2019: Dark bronze - very similar in color at this point to the '90 Rieussec.

Caramel notes on the nose, but there is still a beam of acidity on the palate that prevents this wine from becoming cloying. Fully mature, and I'm currently enjoying it with some St. Agur Blue on toasted multi-grain bread, which is a match made in heaven (and together, one heck of a fun lunch!). (763 views)
Tasted by Lilja on 12/22/2016 & rated 86 points: This seem to have peaked somewhat. Lots of honey, a little glue, some wet wool and dried stone fruit. Lacks punch and intensity on the palate. Absolutely decent, but the bottles I had 6-7 years ago was miles more impressive. (1491 views)
Tasted by Tantamnt on 6/16/2012 & rated 92 points: Would have thought this was a Barsac if it would have been in a blind tasting. Lovely balance of acid/sweetness with minerally flavors. Found several bottles of this lost in my cellar, what a treat! (3208 views)
Tasted by Wayne Richmon on 1/23/2012 & rated 93 points: After a night of very good wines, this was served with dessert and it stood out as the wine of the night. Deep gold color beautiful full mouthfeel and a true delight to enjoy with very good friends. (2927 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 5/28/2011 & rated 93 points: Could have been 90 or 91 (whatever) -- just an excellent bottle. Compared to the bottles I had two years ago, this bottle seemed a little less sweet -- not a t all undesirable -- just a little more evolved. The acidity was more pronounced. Color a nice rich yellow/gold. Good nose, excellent in the mouth and finish. How long will they last?

Day 2 and Day 3 from the fridge --better and better. 92 becomes 93 -- no more 90-91.

Sooooooooo good. (3146 views)
Tasted by plitton on 1/8/2011: Quite Sauternes-like. A cross between Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise with the minerality and Sauternes with boitritis. Intriguing. Pairing this is difficult. Too sweet for aparatif. A lightly citrus dessert? (3383 views)
Tasted by canan on 11/20/2010 & rated 94 points: Julefrokost 2010 (Casa Smidt): Very fresh and still a lot of sweetness. (2811 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 4/23/2009 & rated 91 points: See previous notes. (1345 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 4/10/2009 & rated 91 points: Excellent bottle -- particularly after a day in the fridge (after being opened). First half of bottle was chilled and had excellent sweetness and balance of acidity. Had sort of a Sauternes like feel to it, perhaps simply because it was sweet. Second half was a bit smoother. Don't know what this means. Chenin Blancs such as this can last for quite a while. I will see what the next bottle is like. RP describes the vintage as ready, although I have 4 more and I am in no hurry to drink them. (1365 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 6/29/2007 & rated 94 points: 1990 Vintage France Themed Tasting Dinner (Keith & Donna Goldstein's, San Francisco, California): Apricot gold color; tangy, brown sugar, maple and broiled eel nose; rich, brown sugar, cream and sweet lemon palate; long finish (1933 views)
