Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rico100 on 11/22/2023: Bad cork - threw it away. Bummer! (419 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 3/15/2022: honied, fully mature, lots of wax and spiced apple. Better than a bottle last year. (194 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 12/18/2020 & rated 91 points: SLDS December 2020: Passionfruit, orange peel, lemon and wax. Some good zine to the palate, the sweetness has melted away. In a good spot and drinking well now. (1613 views)
Tasted by kenv on 8/22/2016 & rated 94 points: Cantina Bartolo Mascarello Vertical (Hearth Restaurant, NYC): [Brought by Mark S. Pop and pour.] Complex botrytis nose. Expansive and complex. I may have had too much wine to fully appreciate this luscious delicious wine. (3720 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/16/2015: Golden. Tainted nose with a definitely mousy edge. Moderately sweet, tropical fruit, better in the mouth than aromatically but still not convincing or harmonious. (3420 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 10/29/2015: Flinty, yellow fruited nose. The palate continues the flinty presence and honeyed almonds. Long and seductive. Love it. (3110 views)
Tasted by WST on 4/15/2015: Honeyed yellow fruit, citrus, and a dollop of lanolin. Nice acidic cut keeps it fresh. A fantastic close to the tasting. (3467 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 2/12/2015 & rated 92 points: Rich golden color. Rich and honeyed on the nose giving the impression of a quite sweet wine. However, much more subtle and nuanced on the palate and rich yet much less sweet with a shorter finish than the nose shows. This is quite good, but I can see why Huet didn't consider this worthy as a Cuvee Constance and relabeled it. I think it is showing as good as it ever will and is in the "drink now" category. It won't drop off for years, but won't improve in my opinion. (2764 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 9/26/2014: Man I was worried. The cork was soft and wet and the nose was very reticent at first but man was this a great bottle. The nose slowly loosens some honey, peach and orange peel. The palate is almost too intense still with laser like acidity and loads of apricot, green apple and honey. An amazing partner to foi gras with berry compote. Eternal finish. (2056 views)
Tasted by schwank on 7/12/2014: From the list at Whitehouse-Crawford in Walla Walla. Beautiful pairing with both the sweet onion and foie appetizers. Consumed over 2 nights.

As others have noted this bottle has some oxidative notes yet still feels a bit tightly wound. Deep honey nose suggesting more residual sugars than you feel on the palate. That honey flavor carries spicy apricot and white peach with significant citrus pith and almond bitterness notes, with considerable acids backing a long spicy finish.

I agree this still has a lot of life ahead of it. Not a top vintage but immensely enjoyable. I can't wait to bust into my better vintages of 1ère Trie but this just confirms I must not get too jumpy. (1706 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 4/26/2014: Funny. This was a little oxidized, definitely not the best bottle I've had. A bit of browning and some mild sherry notes, however there is so much power there with honey, peaches and unctuous ness that two people at the table said it was the best thing they've ever drank, and we were at a microbrew tasting ha! Amazing wine when it's correct, merely excellent tonight. (1851 views)
Tasted by MJHDC on 1/31/2014: According to Rare Wine Company, this was made from a parcel of the "best exposed" part of Le Haut-Lieu that was planted "during WWII" and then re-planted after this vintage (though if you've read "Wine & War," it's a bit hard to believe that vines were being planted during the war). In any event, this wine is still somewhat tight, with a lot of acidity and structure. While still sweet, I also get a bitter citrus, and a lot of minerality. Nice to drink now but certainly no hurry. (1756 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 8/25/2013: this somehow is way younger than the previous two. reticent nose with an amazing palate of honey, dried apricots, and the tension and lack of explosion is what I mean by younger than usual (2081 views)
Tasted by Vintomas on 6/29/2013: Nose with dried yellow fruit, yellow winter apples, spice, straw, a hint of petroleum, and somewhat developed notes. The palate is semi-sweet with good concentration, spice notes, yellow apple, some citrus, rather high acidity, and a long aftertaste.
Residual sugar 62 g/l. The bottle had been opened a week earlier. (1446 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 6/27/2013: great nose with white cherries, nuts, a bit of turpentine, and yellow fruits. the palate is medium with intense yellow fruits. more nuttiness a hint of sherrying and a long sweet honeycomb finish. amazing (1763 views)
Tasted by presterjohn on 4/26/2013: Beautiful. Intense, perfumed, complex, focused. Balance is medium sweet (1587 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 4/26/2013: Great nose of honey, apricot, rosemary and a hint of sherry. The palate immediately reminds me of yquem without the sticky component. honey, lychee, yellow fruit pit. stupid good. wow wine. (1762 views)
Tasted by stvjackson on 1/20/2013 & rated 96 points: It's an amazing thing to open a 20-year-old bottle of wine that's both incredibly enjoyable now and still decades away from its peak. Very tightly wound upon popping the cork, but it opens up within about 30 minutes to reveal rich honey, tropical fruit and chalk. Very robust acidity that's lost the rough edges that is present in young Vouvray and that balances out the moderate residual sugar. An absolutely amazing wine that I enjoyed immensely while also being very sad to finish. My last bottle won't be touched for another 20 years. (1614 views)
Tasted by pomerol on 12/21/2012 & rated 93 points: Exotic nose of passion fruit, guava and peach. On the palate crisp long and expressive, but still a baby. Great potential. (1629 views)
Tasted by joraesque on 10/10/2012 & rated 91 points: Good nose, wonderfully mineral on the dry palate, with some Botrytis and great complexity. A lovely dessert on its own. 90-92 (1614 views)
Tasted by Wrighty on 11/9/2006 & rated 88 points: Watson's World Wine Week tasting - 06 (Marriot Hotel, Hong Kong): Honeysuckle nose and balanced (3885 views)
